I dunno, since it's designed to protect, wouldn't it be the first target? Then again it's not DarpaNet anymore... it's gone way beyond that and carries so much more information. Sections of which, BTW are always breaking and causing minor problems. It's no longer the tightly controlled and standardized network that it once was.
Thought some of you might find this interesting...
From their site:
Skyhook's Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) is the world's first location platform to use the native 802.11 radio already on a mobile device to deliver accurate positioning across the US. And soon the world.
They were huge a few years ago... it connects to your tv w/ a mono rca a/v cable and has knockoff nintendo 8-bit games on it. The very same games that were on those 100-in-1 nintendo cartridges that came out when the 1st gen nintendo was new.
I think comcast redirects your traffic to that load software page because the only other way to cut you off is to physically disconnect you. What happens is, they replace your modem's config file w/ one that sends everything to what they call "walled_garden", it's the name of the config file itself... I checked mine out when I couldn't figure out what was going on (before I ended up calling tech support, it turned out a service upgrade caused my modem to revert to some sorta new customer state.)
They're essentially de-authorizing the modem. How else could they cut you off? I suppose they could just tell it to not respond to anything, or have a seperate screen that says, "We cut you off, call us."
Well actually, there's no burden of proof, whoever has more power wins. That's the corporate priviledge.
Sort of, it's just that these days the first assumption is that you're probably trying to defraud them. It goes along w/ the cultural assumption that people are inherently bad and therefore we need protection from them. (more police, prisons & big brother) As apposed to solving the cause of the problems that lead people astray.
I live in SD. Half of my co-workers are evacuated from their homes. There is a possibility I will get called today. Your joke is not that funny. Laptops are used for finance, important papers, etc. Instead of packing up a filing cabinet, the laptop is now the source for important information. I can agree with that... but what about the kids and the dog?
OK, so from reading what you say and my experiences (plays/musicals/live sound/djing/recording & minor electric/tech nerd skills)... I believe you are 100% correct and informative.
Though as far as powered speakers go, I love the Mackie SRM 450 powered speakers connected to a Rane, Urei, Vestax or Allen & Heath dj mixer w/ balanced outputs. I think they sound wonderful and is a nice portable dj solution.
Anyway... I revere the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook like a creationist does the bible. What do you think of the book and do you reccomend anything else?
You should check out the video of James Randi revealing the fraud behind faith healer Peter Popoff's scam. He was also well known back in the 70s for challenging Uri Gellar's psychic claims... he helped Johnny Carson completely stump him.

Everythign you said is insightful and logical. The only problem is the "old boy's network"... you still need to be an insider to get anything done. There's payola to overcome and marketing would be a huge hurdle as well.
Here's an excerpt from the San Jose Mercury News article, "Why commerce is killing the true spirit of hip-hop" by Davey D 03/2007. The original article is gone from the Mercury's website and not in their archives for some reason. (tin-foil-hat)
In our conversation, Porter [Paul Porter former music programmer for BET] also pointed to something more sinister: payola. He claimed hip-hop is dead only because payola is rampant at labels intent on investing in songs with sexual and violent themes.
During a separate conversation, Questlove of the Roots supported Porter's allegation with his own story about the process behind the group's Grammy-winning hit with Erykah Badu, ``You Got Me.'' He said the Roots had to pony up close to ``a million dollars'' to a middle man who ``worked his magic'' at radio stations.
Cool, never saw that list before... just reading it kind of fascinating. It also explains why I couldn't register quad.com and had to settle for quadmag.com. I wasn't even aware of the internet till my sophomore year in high school, Sept. 1988.
Eh... let me rephrase that... my dad played Puff the Magic Dragon for us kids... but I was aware of his porn stash, also on 8mm film. But I wouldn't be surprised if Puff was into Porn. Too bad the Broken Memories site has been broken for most of the year at this point.
I totally agree with you on freecell and the undo thing. I used to keep a text file of all the game #s I beat to see if I could eventually do them all (however many that may be).
It was started by a geeky highschool kid... a classmate of a friend of mine who definitely understood how things worked. Of course it's changed hands since then. I would chalk this up to PHB syndrome.
They also created the Sony/Phillips Digital Interface for audio known as SPIDF. It's been around for a while but is only now picking up momentum in the consumer market. It's been in use for professional audio for a long time. Though, my Archos Jukebox Recorder has a SPIDF interface. (It was the first USB 2.0 hdd based mp3 player on the market.)
I have a white friend who was the nanny of his children for a while back in Chicago... she says she would definitely vote for him cause he's a great guy and his family environment was wonderful. I dunno if they ever talked politics, but either way he didn't sound racist to me... but then again... she was working FOR him.
I need to know the calendar date so I can convince my boss it's a holiday. In fact, why don't we make it an international paid holiday?
and leads to Apple & Google creating a quality & service oriented network open to any device willing to pay for access.

Never tried it myself.
Seems like most people mentioned all the other sources I knew of... though there is also Creative Commons Audio.
Not too much stuff here but it's all free: http://stash.nugs.net/stash.asp.

Even Lars Ulrich has softened up and offered live Metallica concert downloads for free.
P.S. Check out the music video in my sig while you're at it... it's a monologue about destroying technology by a rapper from the year 3030.
Obviously a shill for The Pirate Bay... look at the blatant name "ZombieRoboNinja".

Think of it, free wireless broadcasting miniature cameras with tracking capabilities. Free spy toys!
Just look around for crow feathers, they'll fall off long after the scientists lose the ability to track them.

No, I think he's calling cavemen script kiddies.

Maybe after getting hit by this large corporations will concede that some changes should be made; now that the shoe is on the other foot.

...off a USB stick? Cause that would be awesome. And if I could bring my own mp3s and movies too... oh boy!
