  1. Remote X session? on Pirate Banned From Using Linux · · Score: 1

So he runs a Windows OS, does that mean he can have a remote X session to another box? Doesn't sound like there's any restrictions on networking... or encrypted tunneling for that matter. Of course they probably record his keystrokes and network traffic. Sometimes I wonder about the FBI though. I worked at this net cafe that someone posted information to a NRA message board about a cop killing that happened the day before in a neighboring state that was not known to the public. So the FBI shows up to copy all our HDDs. First it was 2 people, then it was 8, 1 person working, another helping and 6 drinking coffee. They all stood around using some weird disk copy program I never saw before that took 6 hours to copy a 20gb hdd. Then they took the copies and left us the originals. I woulda thought they'd keep the original disks. At least they paid us for tying up 6 computers all day.

Though it still doesn't mean it's "so bad it's good" cause it's damnable. The reviews are what's "so bad it's good".

I went cash only from the get-go... I read about the credit system and things going on back in high school. I also tried to stay relatively anonymous when it comes to any sort of data collection from companies.

Well the effect is that at 30 y/o with a decent job *everyone* wants a huge deposit from me for anything. Cell phone companies want $400 down to be on contract. No one is willing to give me a credit card... I can't even get a dept. store credit card. I never got any card offers in the mail period until I signed one of those cigarette surveys in a bar to get a free pack of smokes for my friend. Though unfortunately Chase felt I didn't have good enough credit.

I don't have bad credit... I have no credit. They all say there isn't enough of a credit history to extend any credit to me. Pretty weird in my book considering I know people in deep debt who can get cards and such.

I finally just got myself a prepaid credit card so I can make purchases online. The lame thing about that is it costs money to fill the card and they charge transaction fees.

They've gone quite far in a short amount of time opening up the hardware to more use. Now if they can get it to dual boot OSX and the ATV version. Or better yet some sorta mashup retaining the ATV interface so you can browse samba shares and stream any media format you want via the remote. A better (more informational/snazzy looking) music player would be nice too.

Hopefully Apple won't try too hard to prevent this from happening in future revisions of the hardware. Though I doubt the content providers are all that excited about the news. But then again... the amount of hacked ATVs vs. every other multimedia capable device is rater insignificant.

I'm sure this will be a hit with the I need a pretty little file server on a shelf crowd.
