    Firefox does exactly what you want (shift click opens the link in a new window), I am a little surprised if mozilla doesnt but I havent used it for a long time so wont debate that with you.

    That said, it is most certainly possible to write bloated C# code

    You dont need to - the 20MB .net runtime automatically adds bloat for you!

    Is it astroturfing day on slashdot or something - some other guy was saying java doesnt use much memory... LOL

    (ok some java apps are really good but by and large they are big and clunky)

    Average "Users" are blind to error messages anyway, they just frantically click any of the buttons to get rid of the dialog.

    Then when you ask them what the error message was they claim there wasn't one, or just make one up!

    There really are alarms like that, I had a brief stay at a nuclear plant that beeped constantly.

    The theory is if an alarm fails it might not go off, but if it beeps constantly then you will notice if it fails.

    Do restricted users have the ability to execute a trojan with a self contained SMTP engine? What about delete all their files? Not serious enough? What about using a local account exploit to gain admin?

    Besides that many people will run as a power/admin user because windows security is a joke, you cant even run many applications unless you are an admin level user. Your 10 year old sister wants to play "Age Of Mythology"? Well she better be admin or no game!

    disclaimer:I think I saw this concept mentioned in a comment on slashdot a while ago this idea. Or I might have thought of it myself, my brain is fucked like that.

    alias rm to a script that does something simple like ls.

    Now train the replacement (btw adjust command aliasing to suit trainee technical level or OS).

    Explain to them that to list the directory contents that they should type rm "-rf .*"

    Over the few days make sure they get used to using that as the list command.

    Then when you leave set everything to normal.

    The beauty is when the new guy claims you told him the command was that they will never believe them.

    Ok ok some of us have a rosy dim recollection of Amigas, but can you blame us - at the time the PC (for example) was way behind in multitasking so you didnt even have the normal possibility that two apps are doing disk access at the same time.
    Formatting a disk - well you just have to wait and do nothing till its done, not so with an amiga.

    I'm a realist though so thats why I'm typing this on my 3ghz athlon PC and amigas are mere memories.

    I wanted to go to the US but will not do so, even though my GBP will go a long way over there. But I wont be treated like a criminal for daring to travel there.

    So... if an indian does your job then the taxpayers have saved money by not having to school them (at least partially) AND they are still cheaper for the companies.

    Then you dont have to whine about 30,000 debt either, its a win win situation!


    People have 5 year car loans and 30 year mortgages.

    Nobody made them do that. Most people buy bigger cars and houses than they can comfortably afford, thats THEIR problem.
