The deodorant suggestion is one we actually thought of. Some of those gamers get pretty funky at our LAN. BTW, we charge $10 a person, and that covers the meeting room rental at the hotel, 4 mb wan connection and anywhere from $100 to $150 worth of prizes we purchase to give away as door prizes, + equipment and cable maintenance. The maximum amount of people we can have is 60, but in the last year with the increase of home broadband, our numbers have dropped to around 45 per lan. About 8 of thouse people don't pay because they are staff that do all the grunt work.

Reinstalled 1.4 jre, still same problems. Deleted 1.5 jre, and apps are back to normal.

My son just replaced his 8500le with a 9700pro and he is running an old k7s5a mobo with sdram and an underclocked XP2400. He just get Rome total war yesterday and it runs great at 1024x768 with all the eyecandy on.

Financially, it's a good thing to stay a generation or two behind on graphics cards. With these new cards, 9800 pros will be under $150.

I am a PACS Admin, and our PACS is based on Solaris. The CT and MR are running Irix, Nuke Med running AIX, CR is Win2k, DR and Fluro are NT4. Not sure what is running on the GE ultrasound machines. Even when the various popular worms were running amok on the PC's in the hospital, nothing on the PACS network was affected. The PACS network is separate from the hospital network and everything is locked down by mac address and switch port.

A lot of hospitals are just starting with PACS, so it would be asy for them to not set up well. Windows boxes could be a real problem if not managed well.

It's the lack of drivers and ease of installing drivers that kills linux.

I spent 5 hours getting the latest ATI driver working after suffering with with slow speed with the mesa drivers while running celestia. After I finally got it going, glgears and fglxgears ran great. Celestia no longer worked, nor did a couple of other 3d apps I tried to run.

I spent hours trying to get alsa to work and gave up, having to settle on OSS with no volume control support.

I just installed real player 10 last night. Doesn't work with firefox, and when I got it to run ran very poorly compaired to real player 8.

    Etc.. Etc.

I like learning about the system, but when you follow instuctions to the leter and it still doesn't work like it should, it gets damned frustrating.

25 years ago I was working on getting my pilots license. I ended up buying a basket case triumph spitfire while I was doing that and all my time and money went into that instead. I had 30 hours when I quit. D'oh!

Anyway, my instructor believed in spin training, so I had a lot of fun with that. I used to go up to about 3000ft agl and do spins in a 152 aerobat. It's been a long time but I think I used to get 3 or f4 rotations before recovery. 152 was so forgiving you could pretty much let go ov the controls and the plane would recover its self.

This is good news! maybe I can get a limited license and start flying again. Fortunately, I have a friend that built a Sonex who takes me up sometimes.http://n36sx.wheelsup.org/ The Sonex meets the spec of the new regs if you use a 4cyl engine and a climb prop. His plane with a 6 cyl and cruise prop climbs 800 to 1000 fpm with 2 200+lb people. Tops out around 170 and cruises at 150.
