    I don't know about the US, but in the UK convictions are considered 'spent' after a certain amount of time, and thus don't have to be disclosed, except in certain instances- the forces are one, and I believe certain sex offences are exempt.

    In fairness, the linked paper isn't the proof, but rather the conference submission and so is a precis. (with equations, graphs and a thought experiment FWIW)
    As to best known? Isn't that still open to debate? I may be wrong, but I'm pretty certain that black holes have yet to be observed as such. There is evidence that is best explained by black holes, but, if this theory has any weight, it could be equally valid.

    sms spam less so, mainly because there is a direct cost associated with it, per message. Those who do sms have to target rather than send as much as possible.

    Well, considering I've held my tounge thus far, I don't think I can be accused of overly complaining.
    The articles would be interesting if they were is own work.
    If he were an academic, his career would be in tatters. But, since he's a layman, we have to put up with it.

    I had a colleague who used those- pretty handy when you need to bodge up an extension cable as well! If you've only got a short, straight, permanent run, then the stuff they use for wiring in electric cookers (by extrapolation) must be s**t hot... (pun not intended)

    And you can divide by three! Sounds silly, but it makes sense- IIRC, france had issues with inheritance when they went metric, because you ended up with all sorts of odd parcels of land when you tried to divide it between three heirs, for example.
    eg. 1'/3 = 4" 1m/3= 33.3333...cm

    Where DO you get coffe in Finland, anyway? Let's show soem frame of reference.
    Last time I was there, pretty much everywhere! And, in fairness, it's all been good.
    It did seem, however, that they make coffee all the time, which I wasn't complaining about!

    The big problem is that when you've paid an exorbitant price for cabling, it always sounds/performs better. And you make sure everyone knows!
    That said, I was talking to some hardcore audio guys and they mentioned this blind test they set up at a trade show, comparing some speaker cable out of the back of a truck with some £200/meter stuff. Apparently it did sound better, but the trouble was they couldn't actually work out how and why it did, or indeed describe it!
    Psychoacoustics- it's all a bit weird...

    But surely it makes no odds, so long as they pay their taxes? As the article points out, they are not resident long enough to use any of the services they are paying for.
    Furthermore, for the extent of their stay, they are sharing the same set of circumstances. And, let's face it, anyone can retire to a country with a 1/10th of the cost of living if they wanted to. (I'm sure I'm not alone in weighing up the pros and cons of doing over their employer's safe and catching the next plane out!)
