My point in quoting another post wasn't to tally the numbers for or against our positions. I just liked that particular quote as it pertains to our discussion. Frankly it doesn't look like very many folks are taking sides in our discussion at all.
I don't have the faintest idea what the original comment writer's opinion on gay sex is. That's because he didn't provide an opinion on it. He gave a list of various sex acts and asked another writer where they thought the line should be drawn as far as sex on television. For every act he listed, you can find someone who would not want that act shown on television. even though a few would seem to us to be innocuous. But really, the offensiveness of the listed sex acts is all over the board no matter what your opinion is of each of the various sex acts.
I just think it's a huge stretch to imply from that post that he feels gay sex is worse than all the others he listed. I think you're trying too hard to read between the lines.
Regarding your questions about what would cause me to be outraged... Nothing in your example would cause me to respond with a "Fuck You Bigot!". My response would be "You can't be serious?!?" I'd at least give him a chance to clarify his position or defend his statement.
In the case of this post, the author does defend his position and makes it clear that every act he listed is equal in his eyes because they don't in any way pertain to him.
To me, all of those things listed are equal in offensiveness -- in that they aren't any of my business and aren't offensive to me because they do not personally attack me.
Please notice that he's not saying that he is offended by any of the sex acts he listed. It looks to me that you put the "bigot" tag on someone who didn't deserve it. Simply asking if he feels that gay sex is more offensive than bestiality would have probably been a more reasonable (mature?) first response.
I just don't like the attacks and assumption of guilt over what could reasonably be called an unclear position.
I know I said this before, but this really is my last comment on this topic. I just don't have the time to continue this discussion. Bills to pay and all that. Thanks for the interesting discussion.
Another post on this issue that appears to agree with me reads:
Personally I read that gay sex part as starting a new list of potentially offensive types of sex, not a progression of more offensive things. I rather dislike the bleeding heart kneejerk reaction that seems to be ruling our society these days, but seems that is the way it goes these days
I'm not wasting any more time on this. I would just highly recommend you consider joining discussions rather than dismissing those in it because you didn't like the way something was said. You will never convince those who disagree with you using that approach.
But that's beside the point of my comment. Whether you think a comment is bigoted or racist or ignorant or whatever, you're not going to persuade the person to change his/her views with name calling. It just ENDS the conversation. If the poster had a closed mind regarding this issue before, now he/she is probably even less receptive to your viewpoint after being attacked for the way they asked a question.
Especially in this case where the poster may or may not have meant anything at all by the order of the listed acts. It's clearly open for debate as to whether or not the poster intended for his list to indicate a slippery slope. I don't think he did. You do. It's not like the poster flat out said that gay sex is the worst of all. If he did, then I might understand the angry name calling.
And this is part of the reason why no meaningful discussion ever really happens. Too often as soon as someone has "offended" someone else, all discussion ends. In this case, the person who was trying to have some meaningful discourse gets shot down as a "bigot".
The whole point of the post was where should the line be drawn. To end the discussion over a perceived slight is ridiculous.
Besides, IF the poster does view gay sex as more offensive than everything else and you disagree, shouldn't you argue that point rather than just throw insults around? I'm pretty sure no one has ever had their mind changed from a "Fuck you". Especially when that's the initial response.
People should be giving each other the benefit of the doubt unless he/she has shown they don't deserve it.
I own two small businesses where the ownership is not in question even if someone were to die. However, I am in discussions about starting/spinning off another company that would have up to 4 partners where 2 are related. There are serious concerns about what happens if someone were to die. It gets extra complicated if one of the related partners were to die. What if one leaves his stock to the other? These issues HAVE to be discussed and put into a contract. A businessperson would be a fool to not at least address potential situations.
I was hoping someone would mention The Bard's Tale games.
Bard's Tale 3 was my first RPG. What a great game! I don't remember if I used a clue book or not, but I do remember how freakin' difficult the final battle was. What a feeling when I finally won!
I was glad to see the "Slik Stick" on that page. I went through 3 or 4 of them. They were great because the range of motion was so small especially compared to the larger joysticks.

Is this the same documentary that showed a VW bus swerving side to side trying to run over the toads?
If it is, I highly recommend it! I saw it a few years ago and it's wonderful.
Wasteland was one of my favorite games back in the day. For some reason, I never could get through it though. I remember trying for a long time and it was either a bad guy I couldn't beat or I was somehow stuck somewhere. It's just too long ago to remember the details.
Drop Dead Gorgeous is one VERY funny movie. I own less than 10 movies and this is one of them. Everyone should see this movie.
My favorite moments (from the top of my head):
-Kirsten Dunst practicing her tap dance while applying makeup to a corpse.
-last year's anorexic winner.
-Ellen Barkin with a beer can melted onto her hand.
-The retarded kid and his dad.
-The judge who is a little too interested in the "young girls".
-The girl who just wants to be deaf.
-The Denise Richards performance with the wooden Jesus.
I'd love to have one.
It would be even better with a few other Star Trek/Star Wars ships flying around with it. You could recreate your favorite battle scenes. How great would it be to see a bunch of X-Wings & Tie Fighters flying around at a park?!?
What? Everyone who's invited to participate in JEDEC is there so their technology can be "taken". Taken, that is, and put into an industry wide standard for all to use! If you're suggesting that RAMBUS reps at JEDEC didn't know that they were developing a standard at the meetings and were "tricked" into letting their as-yet-unapproved patent for memory into the standard, then you're an idiot.
I'm saying that a number of the JEDEC members had prior non-disclosure agreements with Rambus regarding technology created by and patented by Rambus. Those JEDEC members knew quite well that the technologies they were pushing into the standard were already patented by Rambus. They knew this prior to inviting Rambus.
Furthermore, while at JEDEC Rambus did not influence what was put into the standard, or even propose technologies for inclusion. They were basically observers. It is interesting to note that they did vote 4 times, all against inclusion of technology that appeared to come from their IP.
Rambus was invited to join JEDEC as a way to get their IP put into the standard so that the memory makers would not need to license the technology. Perhaps Rambus could have behaved better and argued against using IP-violating technologies, but saying that Rambus is the ultimate bad guy in this is wrong. At the time, they were a small company that was essentially targeted for their invention.
This is actually correct. I think that if the Slashdot crowd would look at ALL the facts regarding this situation, they would see that Rambus IS a victim here. Rambus made a lot of mistakes with their behavior that can not be excused, but the evidence indicates that Rambus was invited to be part of JEDEC so that their technology could be taken.
I still use mine 4 years after graduation. I just hate using standard calculators now. The size of it gets all kinds of comments when I bring it to meetings. People think it is some kind of pda.
I've worked in a meat processing plant via a temp agency. It was actually a plant that produced a frozen chicken, vegetable, and rice mix that was sent to Japanese restaurants. I'm a pretty job-committed person, but the overwhelming smell of raw chicken caused me to quit after one day.
I've also had zero problems with TDK. I'm also fortunate because they seem to always be running a nice rebate at the local Fred Meyer's store (kind of like a Target or Walmart in Pacific Northwest). I've always gotten my rebate check as well.
I don't get any errors. It just hangs on the Windows 2000 splash screen with the progress bar about 2/3 completed. Can't load in safe mode and no success repairing from the Win2000 cd. It looks like I might have to reinstall.

Well that was quite the overreaction... I think you missed the point. Way to further the conversation.
In your words: Fuck you, idiot.
Probably because they are trying to maximize their profits rather than trying to please one group or another.

Google found this about the gun sales: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,191818,00.htm
If they felt that offering non-edited music would increase profits, they probably would do so.
At least that's what I'd do if I were running WalMart...
Exactly what "incredible liberties" have we lost?
Count me with all the others that need to do testing on Windows. I also have an older version of AutoCad that I occasionally use.

I just went through 2 rounds of Software Updates (Panther, QuickTime, etc), but there is no sign of the iTunes update.
I guess I'll do the manual download instead. It just seems strange that it is no longer available through Software Update.

Same problem...but I don't have a Dell. I eventually just reinstalled win2000 over the old installation.
