Holy Crap! It would take me a solid month to list all the companies and startups where that's been the case. Suffice it to say, nepotism soundly rules today at all corps I've seen lately (all the top banks in North America, all the Fortune 50 to 100 firms, all the telecoms,.....)
I think what the parent poster means by business skills is the exact same thing that the young intern did in the Oval Office to Bill Clinton (now why can't recall her name????).
Wow! Big leap forward. Once again Scientific American proves themselves experts at stating the obvious: years of study, and much, much memorization, yield expert results.
Not to get too serious, but I suspect that was only to pump up Rumsfeld's pharmaceutical stocks portfolio - he was getting jealous of all the money Cheney's trust fund was pulling in from Halliburton's war profiteering....
BTW, anyone notice the increased speculation in security stocks just prior to that last Bush notification of a "terrorist strike"???
Terrorist attacks have been committed around the world - be it the Philippines, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc., so your contention is patently wrong. Your statement that the senseless invasion and blood occupation of Iraq stopped terrorism is patent nonsense - observe the terrorist attacks on Spain and United Kingdom. There have been many individual attacks in the US since 9/11/01, including an anthrax attack. While these can be attributed to this illusory organization known as al Qaeda can't be anymore proven than that 9/11/01 was their responsibility - especially not from that video purported to be of the left-handed Osama, who uses his right hand in the video to do his writing...
Your assertion that the aforesaid war stopped any and all terrorism makes no logical sense - you can't prove a negative, dude!!!!! Return to college and take critical thinking courses - you are most woefully inadequate in that area....
Good point, but Rangel is a Globalist, not a true democrat, as he lobbied for the Singapore Accords and I believe he was part of the original crew (which was up for corporate sale) of the Congressional Black Caucus that created, lobbied for, and successfully passed the legislation giving corporations a tax back for laying off American workers and offshoring their jobs. But the neocons are still the worst of the lot on the march to fascism....
Once upon a time that suggestion -- which could have conceivably worked -- was made. But that assumes that "free" democracies want what's best for other countries, and therein lies the faulty thinking. Unfortunately, the people who control the manufacturing of weapons, and their lackeys, aren't usually progressive thinkers, nor humanitarian types.
But feel free to offer that suggestion to Lockheed Martin, the Carlyle Group or Microsoft.....
Thank God (and the Moon Goddess since we're speaking of China) that someone has finally figured out Ricardo's Law of Comparative Advantage. He was the greatest prophet since Nostradamus (and Bart Simpson, of course!) and correctly foresaw that by offshoring all the jobs - and censorship - to China, Corp Amerika would stave off certain obesity from setting in......geez, if only I could think of such things.....
I think, in this case with Yahoo, and given the present circumstances, from a purely business point-of-view (POV) they are right.
After all, Bush is China's bitch. And if the president of the US (POTUS) is China's bitch, it makes sense for the corps to follow his lead - otherwise, they just might find themselves in Guantanomo with those other innocents (or did they already let those unforunate torture victims go???).
Tales From the Bush Family Torture Chamber by Mary Cheney, coming to your neighborhood book store, as soon as she gets her next whopping $1 million book advance from some publishing moron....
While I agree wholeheartedly with your naive sentiment, it begs the obvious reality of those in power and control, the corporate overlords (the top private equity banks, the Fortune 50, etc.) won't allow it. To those ignorant of history, please recall that during the Great Depression Era (when FDR ascended to the presidency), a general (one Smedley Butler) was approached by the bankers of Wall Street to assassinate FDR and help take over the government. General Butler, being an honorable Marine, of course turned them down. This was later confirmed in a House Investigation on Un-American Activities (around 1934).
Later, during the sixties, quite a few of our liberal leaders were successfully assassinated - and the Vietnam War continued on. Bush is simply doing what his bosses order him to do (probably through that misfiring embedded microchip!!).
One day some of ya'll are going to grow up and realize that "the man" isn't out to get you. He is out to get the bad guy and the real problem is that the most effective ways are denied to him because of political correctness.
Wow, did somebody just wake up and come out of his cave!!! You mean all those astronomical profits from Bushco & Cheney's buds are simply blowback??? According to 08/10/06 numbers, Blackwater's profits -- since the start of that war-for-profit (Iraq) started, have gone up by 1200 percent (from a quarter of a million to $300 mil). Every time an American soldier dies over in that bloody Iraq occupation, Halliburton (and Cheney's trust fund) makes money - I believe it's because they have the funereal contracts). Raytheon, Fluor, and so many others are making out like super-bandits --- oh, but parent poster thinks they are sooooo deserving....you ever zipped up a bud in a body bag after he's had half his body blown off?????
Nope...didn't think so. PC gaming is your adventure time in reality. Why did owners make profit off the destruction of the World Trade Center??? What was the activity in security stocks prior to the press release of this latest terrorist stunt -- who where did that activity originate from??? We no longer have a government - had you been paying attention to the Congressional Record, the legislation handed down by Republicans (and Globalist Dems), the latest decisions by the Labor Relations Board, and bizarre decisions by the SCOTUS (that's the Supreme Court to you nimrods), you would know that - instead of which XBox games sucks.....And BTW, where the *#(@*$(()@# is Osama, maybe Bush's buds in the bin Laden family would know....
Actually, no, the "guys" who foiled this reside in the United Kingdom, and their main "guy foiler" was the Muslim-Brit who tipped them off to this plan.
I would strongly suggest you review the last testimony given by the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (several months back) before the Senate - according to him things are pretty much going to hell in Afghanistan, with the al Qaeda/Taliban back in full force. And to summarize, there have been many individual attacks (Seattle, North Carolina, etc.) - presumably in response to the wanton killing of the Bushies - throughout America since 9/11/01, not counting the even more horrendous ones throughout the world (Indonesia, Spain, United Kingdom, etc.) - so things have gotten far worse thanks to the actions of the Busheviks.
Please give examples of where there are fewer terrorist attacks since the Bushies have racked up astronomical profits on the senseless and bloody invasion and occupation of Iraq??? Also, please define what this "war on terror" is --- this combat veteran still hasn't deciphered what that imbecile in the White House means by such a nonsensical description.
And the final question: Does anyone (who can think in a critical manner) feel that there are fewer terrorist incidents due to the Iraq occupation -- or more????
Close, but not on target....Dubai is a dictatorship, or group dictatorship...again, to reiterate the excellent previous poster on it, fascism is corporate-controlled state domination, according to one Benito fellow who originally coined the term. USA is effectively a fascist nation today as anyone who is reasonably educated will attest. Dubai Holding is simply a mirror image of its authoritarian rulers.
Geez!!! You're the guy all the neocons love --- you accept all their BS and then some. I bet you're just itching to have the draft brought back so more poor souls can die for Halliburton. You might consider learning a little about this history of this country - and to be an informed citizen start with reading: Nomi Prins - "Jacked" and "Other People's Money" --- Major General Smedley Butler - "War is a Racket" - Dave Sirota - "Hostile Takeover"
Right on target, good citizen. Predictably, after almost 6 years of Bush, al Qaeda is larger than ever (some say it has grown by over 1,000%), and Osama is living the high life, occasionally giving public testimonies on the Osama Broadcasting Network (OBN).
Anyone who thinks Bush's war on terror (more accurately described as war OF terror) is a success need only look at what happened over the past several days. Fortunately the Bushies were given a heads up, so they could tip off their cronies (overlords??) as to invest in all those security-related stocks.......
And that terrorist stunt in the making - weren't we already tipped off to that by the Phillipine intelligence some years back??? NOT TOO MENTION, that trick has been shown on spy shows dating back to the '60s. Aren't those clowns in DHS paid big bucks to predict this stuff? Certainly shouldn't come as any big surprise, then...
Me too. No more bosses that wear short skirts...no more bosses that wear sexy nylons...no more bosses displaying cleavage...on second thought, give me that old stuff...
Like the USA's Total Information Awareness, that is, the connection between all commercial databases, the NSA, the NGA, etc., and the with the UK's participation in Echelon, and if their very own TIA project should be connected to that, would magnify everyone's chances for being caught in some idiot's web....
In America, the most chilling aspect of all is that over the past 6 years, more laws have been passed - at both the federal level and the state level - to criminalize the citizenry (i.e., more criminal acts we can be prosecuted for, many completely nonsensical and not contrasociety).
It's only logical. After all, Bush wants to keep the profitability of the pharmaceuticals high by voting against real stem cell research -- something that could conceivably solve many medical problems, cutting into RX profits. And those "raptureheads" have little in the way of values which connect with other parts of the country. Rev. Robertson, with his African mines and murdering African cohorts. Jack Abramoff, supporting and abetting sex slavery in the North Marianas. The Bushies, supporting murder on a colossal scale. It's almost overdue for a national breakup.....
Thanks for an intelligent, highly knowledgeable post.
You point out the humongous weak point and fallacy with all such "futurist" stuff. According to the 1974 Senate Select Committee Investigation on the Transportation Industry, a successful conspiracy took place over a period of thirty-some years. This was verified by the testimony (under oath, the way they used to do it in the olden days...) of former executives of GM, Sunoco and Firestone, who did willfully conspire to subvert and destroy urban transit systems throughout the United States, especially on the West Coast, by buying up electric trolley systems and companies and then dissolving them.
How many times, and how many successful conspiracies, have taken place to curtail the future and set us back so many decades, if not centuries??? Certainly something like that is transpiring today when the plutocratic elites in North America seek to enhance the prosperity of very few, while destroying the prosperity of the vast majority.....
You know, that is one intelligent and most prescient comment. The odds from computer modelling which have been run on that question - over a year ago - predict a very highly likelihood of such an occurrence.
I recall having a conversation - when I was working on a political (presidential) campaign many years ago - with Zbig Bryzynski (probably got that spelling wrong, but I'm sure some neocon roger-dodger will correct me), who predicted that state lines will cease to exist about this time. I recall (in agreement with Robert A. Heinlein's prediction) that during the early part of the 21st century, given present trends, a breakup of the nation was far more likely. I think I may have finally gotten something right...
You are correctly and accurately describing the present situation - as it exists in the USA. But it wasn't that long ago that anyone other than the office of president (POTUS), if not fully vetted by the FBI as to security clearance regulations, was deemed unfit for political appointment to office. Things are different today in the old Fascist USA.....
Got some news for you, bub, George Bush has the highest level security clearance even though after he was an AWOLEE/DESERTER (and removed from flying status) he would automatically never qualify for ANY security clearance again.
Also, there's this guy named Dick Cheney, also has the highest level security clearance, yet violated a bunch of laws, including the "Trading with Enemies" law of 1962 (US Treasury), while he was at Halliburton and they sold stuff they shouldn't have to Iran. I doubt if old Adm. Poindexter would still qualify for a clearance, either....
Holy Crap! It would take me a solid month to list all the companies and startups where that's been the case. Suffice it to say, nepotism soundly rules today at all corps I've seen lately (all the top banks in North America, all the Fortune 50 to 100 firms, all the telecoms, .....)

What I can't figure out is how did you know that Computerworld is the preferred reading material of the homeless?????
