I agree, it is more fun to be the bad guy. One of my favorite missions in CoV so far was a bank robbery. It even included smashing the crap out of the vault door to get at the money. Lots of guards trying to stop you the whole time. I really enjoyed that one.
For you, the game starts at 60. For me, the game ends at 60. Getting there is the game. Being there sucks. Adding 10 more levels of content is awesome and highly anticipated. I don't like PvP, there is nothing about it that is fun. Grouping up with friends and questing is the fun part. Playing rock/paper/scissors over and over again isn't fun, and that is what PvP is to me.
If they build it for you, they lose me. If they build it for me, they lose you. I have a feeling that they will do as they planned to do all along, and that is to continue to expand the game, adding content and levels.
It sounds like you would be better served by Guild Wars.
You can be a Ham and not even own any equipment at all. You could also just use hand held radios - with limited range of course.
And people posting their call signs online are crazy, it's comparable to posting their home address. It's only one google search away.
Yes, I am a Ham too.
Funny, but I don't have either of those. When people I know and respect tell me something is entertaining, I am not afraid to give it a try. Most of the time I am glad for the purchase.
I've never seen this show (I did see the Serenity trailer and it looks great), but the hype is now overwhelming. Therefore, I just ordered the DVD box set with overnight shipping. I have the day off tomorrow so I'll be watching it. I have now done my part.
I think it's kind of a cool idea and I read a few of the sites linked. I enjoy reading gaming blogs off and on, some people make me laugh and I don't think that is a bad thing.
I hope it keeps going and that some new people join as it may be the best way to find some more people with the same sense of humor I have about games and gaming.
The first sections of the game will be played just like a single player title as you develop your character through an involving storyline, as you prepare for even greater adventures beyond. The whole game will always be played on online game servers.
Quote from SirBruce: "But it would not be fair to suggest that the TR team is revamping simply to become more like WoW."
Nobody suggested they were revamping to be more like WoW.
They are revamping because they realize their weak EQ clone can't compete with Blizzard's strong EQ clone, so they are revamping to change further away from WoW, not towards. That would be the smart thing to do anyway.
According to their FAQ on the site, it will not be turn-based:
How does combat work in Dungeons & Dragons Online?
We're making a clean break from the "press auto-attack and wait" style of combat that has become so prevalent in today's MMORPGs. Our real-time combat system is designed to be fast and responsive, while still requiring tactical, coordinated decisions from adventuring parties.
I don't know what fantasy world you come from, but in this world a "real" server costs $10,000 without much effort. And for World of Warcraft, you have 90+ worlds just in the USA. Each world is at least 4 servers if not 10. Then you have the rest of the world which just may be double the USA figures.
Now tell me again how cheap this is?
It's very simple. The game has rules. Swearing in game (actually having to type it in) is against the rules. Break the rules and get banned. If you don't like their rules, don't play their game. You do not have the right to swear in their game. You do not have the right to do a lot of other bad things. Most any of them will get you banned. Swearing is just the tip of the iceberg. Swearing isn't cool. Swearing isn't adult. Swearing isn't mature. Learn to blow off steam in a less rule-breaking way.
I don't think you should expect to see swearing in any game. Really, can you be any more uncivilized?
Swear out loud if you really have to. Type it in and you risk the penalties of breaking the game rules.
Sony can only improve on the distribution of Asheron's Call games. I realize this is only for the expansion packs at this point, but nobody was worse at putting boxes on the store shelves then Turbine's previous distributors.
Better to make a game that is so fun that people are upset when they can't play it than to have people not care if they can't play.
Personally my experience has been great. I have rarely had a queue to login, nor have the servers been offline when I wanted to play. I guess I have been lucky but I'm certainly not the only one happy with the game.
Not surprising Blizzard has "stopped production" and told retailers to hold the games.
They have not told retailers to hold the game. It is on the shelves at many stores still. I could go buy 10 copies at a store 1 mile from here right now.
You are correct about the "stopped production" in that they are not currently shipping any more copies until they are ready for them.
However, we are no longer in a position, from a financial standpoint, to continue doing business, meeting each of the high standards we have continually set for ourselves and for you, and are regrettably forced to suspend our operations and liquidate our assets in support of our financial responsibilities. Through our best abilities we are striving to fulfill all current orders, but we are no longer accepting new purchases for any of products.
Actually it is not likely that you will get to keep your open beta characters. Blizzard has said time and again during the beta testing process that they would never announce a character wipe until it was going to happen because it causes the testers to quit testing. They are just letting people think they might get to keep their characters in order to get some good solid stress testing in.
I am confident they will start retail with a clean slate.
While it appears that nobody cares about Horizons any more, I wonder what allowing someone to bring over stacks of money to a new character will do to the in-game economy. I suppose Horizons is not far away from that next announcement of closure anyway.
The quests vary from killing a number of a specific monster, to exploring an area, and to collecting a number of specific drops. There are also some more interesting quests, such as protecting an npc while he walks from one place to another and gets ambushed by some bad guys, or others where you have a limited time (complete with a timer on screen) to kill a few things.
Is that it? They can't be more creative than that? You just described the quest system in every MMORPG that exists for the most part. Heck, even Asheron's Call 2 (which most consider a failure) has all those quest types in game. Please tell me something that is different about this game!
The End Begins (And Ends)

Reminds me a lot of a local access show I used to watch called "High Tech Heroes".

The Saga of Ryzom is working on just that sort of thing.
Check it out here: http://www.ryzom-ring.com/
After watching the 2 hour premier and the first two episodes, I am more than glad I bought this. Fantastic show.
Nice try though.

It's actually 10 characters per realm (server) and a total of 50 across all realms in World of Warcraft.
