Take a close look at XYMon, previously called Hobbit.
Easy to use, ton's of plugins (big brother compatible)....
Really nice over all, easy to understand web-based interface, alerting, graphing, etc...
The really big worry if this goes through is what happens on the hardware side?
Newer Sun hardware is really pretty amazing, and with the upcoming Rock processor it's only going to get better.
If IBM buys Sun, we might lose an entire architecture, and that would be a shame.
It wouldn't be so bad if they would at least mix them together. The Borg versus an army of Terminators would be decent, thrown in some Aliens and a few Jedi also.
The biggest problem with Tivo is the interface is so vastly superior to any other DVR that it's actually worth the hassle of paying a monthly fee and putting up with some DRM crap. Don't get me wrong, if the DRM stuff ever gets way out of hand I'll build a Myth box, but in the meantime I've tried several PVR's and Tivo is far and away the best, there isn't even a competitor that comes in a close 2nd.
It makes no difference. If they charge the consumer, the consumer pays. If they charge the manufacturer, then they raise the price of the product and the consumer pays anyway. I just throw used electronics in the local reservoir.
I am going to release my newest swarming tech, which will allow you to watch any movie you choose immediately on any viewing device instantly. Seriously. You just think "I feel like watching The Blues Brothers" and it will automatically appear on the nearest viewing screen, regardless of network connectivity or source files being available anywhere. It's going to take the world by storm.
Some of us are computer geeks who will pay any amount of money and go through any amount of hassle to play the newest games on our pc's. My kid has a gamecube, it blows compared to my computer. The controllers suck and the graphics are crap on consoles.
I can recommend the O'Reilly based online course, I took the full Unix/Linux admin dealio. I had a fair amount of Linux experience before I took the course, but it was well worth it. (Especially if your company is going to pay for it.) The online instructor was a little terse with answers to my questions but outside of that it was really good, and I learned about things that you don't know you need to know when you are trying to teach yourself. The best part of it was you got to admin your own virtual server, you could even reboot it/etc.

A sequel I could understand, set way in the future. But a prequel? You aleady know how everything is going to end.
I tried Ruby out, and while it's a fun language there still isn't anything better than perl. Show me CPAN for Ruby and I'll try it again.
In what way does this article have anything to do with Paris Hilton?

Anyone who uses a NetApp device is already there, it's mainstream right now.
You'd have to be crazy to accept a "blue-ad" or "blue-vert" or whatever the hell these are.
Don't we use up enough fresh water in this country, now we want to burn it? Imbeciles.
If NASA doesn't care about this data, why should anyone else?

First!
There are going to be way less vaginas in the IT department.

The AS/400 (iSeries) from IBM is probably the most under-rated solution in the world. Any coverage on slashdot would be awesome.

You can buy a live one right now at www.realhobbitpeople.com
I hope whoever buys this stuff gets electrocuted.
I hope the everquest servers crash and destroy the everquest orphanage, putting a bunch of little kids on everstreet.
I wish he would have crashed into an orphanage.

yeah yeah
The only thing I learned in high school of any value was typing. Everything else was a waste of time.
