LOL.... that is cause electrics don't have to carry their generator and fuel...
FACT: Diesel trains use electric motors and diesel engines produce the electricity. Carrying the extra weight along for the ride is less efficient than picking juice up off the wire.
The other night I watched a >6000# diesel pickup truck (chipped with exhaust and intake mods) run a 1/4 mile in 11.5 seconds at over 100MPH. The driver also said he gets 24 MPG when in economy mode and commuting to work.
'Wheelers on Slashdot:)
Pretty much agree with everything you said. Some dealers are better about customer service than others. The main issue is in the US there is a precedence for this type of thing. The people making the call about covering repairs under warranty are bean-counters generally rather than engineers and tend to take the line of "you touched it, you broke it". Essentially always trying to place the blame on the owner if at all possible to avoid cutting into profits. Really sucks for the consumer. A buddy of mine had a dealer-installed wiring harness for his trailer hitch fry the wiring all the way back to the battery on an '05 Rubicon. I said battery, yup they didn't fuse it. But why did they tell him to go home? "That red mud under you Jeep is high in iron and caused a short. You took it off-road so it isn't covered." Huh, the vehicle is designed and MARKETED for off road use and a little mud invalidates the warranty on a part the dealer installed incorrectly? $0.50 fuse would have prevented the whole thing, but they needed to pass the buck.
Hehe, you don't have much experience with vehicle warranties. The warranty of my Jeep is refused specifically because of my tires being larger than stock. The tire sizes and load ratings are specific, deviate from how it is delivered and the warranty is no-go.
I see a big parallel actually between PCs and vehicles in this respect (and many others), if you want to tinker with it then don't expect the warranty to be honored. Not saying it is right, but their angle is if you change anything from how the engineers designed then they can not tell if all parts will work together as a system anymore. There are too many complexities and cost prohibits investigating the merits of every claim. So broad-sweeping guidelines are made and the written warranty (a.k.a. contract) has to be honored by both parties.
You have a valid point. And I must totally agree.
I amd thinking you are mostly targetting my post. I am only speaking from my personal perspective. But for the record, I am a veteran and have been through said training on handling extreme circumstances with a cool head. My point wasn't that everyone has to have what it takes. Just someone, anyone, ONE.
Bingo! Heros are not lemmings!
How many "mass homicides" have EVER happened at an of the following places: police station, military installation, NRA meeting, hunting/fishing store, shooting range, and the list goes on and on...
These things happen at "mandated gun-free sites" such as schools. I can even dig up an article where in a state without the blanket school = gun free laws, a principle stopped a shooting after one death by retrieving his legal gun from the car and taking care of the culprit. However, liberal slanted media fail to publicize these occurances much. Basically, it works like this. You put a bunch of people in relative proximity and mandate that they not be allowed to defend themselves. Then all you need is ONE wacko with a weapon and he can make himself feel very powerful by having complete control over these folks lives.
This was a college as well and all the students are adults (almost all anyway). ONE legally owned gun would have stopped this. Even if it was at 31 deaths, one saved life is better than none.
And... Yes I have a CCP. No, I have never pulled out a weapon in public. No, I don't carry every day. Yes, I have been harrassed while armed. No, it never got deadly so neither did I. No, I don't carry if I intend to be drinking. Yes, if you are with me and someone pulls a gun on you I will shoot them. Yes, if you break into my house, expect to leave in a bag.
Well there is also no NEED for wizbang electronics the manufacture of which spew poisonous chemicals to be dealt with.
Of course you want those electronics to play with, but that is somehow different than me wanting a multi-purpose vehicle....
How about this... Quit blaming people driving the vehicles they like and start blaming people for not yelling at the goverment to start subsidizing biofuels and renewables that can supply the needed power without destroying everything. And don't give me the garbage about arible land, etc...
You are definately not a programmer. Sure, all my source is organized but you still need to search to find the files you are interested in based on content. GDS indexes all my java files and returns results almost instantaneously. I do use grep in a unix environment and have a windows port , but find GDS much more efficient.
Actually, the best bet is to get the best rewards card you can(no fees) and use it instead of cash. Live within your means and pay off the balance every month before you acrue any interest:)
I'm sure my CC company loves me. I've used hundreds of dollars in rewards and never payed a penny in interest. But for every person like myself, there are probably a hundred consumer droids.
With the addition of one word you will magically never have enough space again: kids! Driving to visit nearby relatives for a day or two will make you appreciate every cubic foot of cargo room you have.
The key word in SUV is "Utility". They are just useful even if you aren't luky enough to have the time to drag them out in the woods more than a few times a year. Being more efficient than 20mpg is tremendous.
I have a great backup to my land line.
* Intruder cuts phone line
* Intruder enters home
* Intrusion alarm sounds realy loud alarm
* Intruder meets the working end of my 30-06 (rifle)
Ok, Ok, I also have a cell phone to call the morgue.:)
That's a highly argued topic. The answer (speculative) is complicated and involves different muscle fibers coupled with different ways to induce fiber growth. One argument is that lifting heavy weight where no more than 8-12 reps are possible is the fastest and most consistent means to acheive muscle hypertrophy (growth) and strength gains. More muscle means more calories expended and more fat burned.
This might get flamed, but I'll throw it out there anyway. Many folks beleive that toning is mostly a myth [duck]. If you are not increasing weight or reps, then you are not doing much of anything to the muscles. Instead, you are burning calories and losing subcutaneous fat which enhances muscle definition.
Throw in some cardio and you have full body fitness. Getting huge is hard and requires devotion and large caloric intake. Unless you are some kind of genetically predisposed mesomorph.
Projectors definately have their advantages if you can control the light. The moderate priced models are usually less than 2000 Lumens and will not look their best in a well lit room.
A good home theatre receiver unit with multiple chanels would be great. My setup utilizes a "BookShelf" stereo, so I use a cheap ($20) A/V switch to select between signal sources.
Recessions always have people fearing the worst. Would it be fair to say that accounting, management, and financial/business analysis are dead? No! Are all college degrees worthless? No! But why are people having a hard time finding jobs? The (world ?) economy has been suffering through a tough job situation due to a recession and decreased business spending in part caused by the open buffet style business practices of the 90's. When spending recovers, jobs should to. You might not get $150/hr to be a COBOL coder. But as long as software is a valuable tool to businesses and individuals, there will be a profitable market.
OOPS, forgot, this is/. ,... All technical careers are doomed. There's a conspiracy against all geeks, and all our jobs will be shipped off the third world workers.
This whole thing irritates me. Allot of the "problems" I've seen have stemmed from these morons and their lawsuit in the first place. I know suing people to get something for nothing is becoming part of the American Way, but get a grip. Because of this stupid suit, my current client has a 12 month limit on contracts and a required 90 day break in service to regain contract elligibillity.
Contractors are NOT employees. We get a nice fat hourly rate (if not, bend over and grab your ankles while your at it) for the work we do for our CLIENT. That's it. Want more, call your mommy and whine to her!
I personally do not want any perks that are going to cut into my rate. I work to get paid. I do things for fun off the clock. I thought an honest days pay for an honest days work was part of our moral fiber.
Want security? Join the drones and be an FTE. Just remember corporations will cut your throat to save their bottom line.
heh, guess so. And we all know hybrids are the pinnacle :)

That's what I'm screaming. You better not come in my home uninvited and I find you there... But my 30-06 has a lot more range than my my router ;)

You missed the primary driver for all three of these. Poontang!.
Money, power, and ambition (or the appearance of such) are just evolutionary adaptations to attract women with the biggest jugs.

#20K GBP?? What the h377 do you do in Seattle for $36K ? If you are a developer, you are definitely taking someone's $60K+ job.
What ever became of this guy? After all the years of research will he not be first to market?
With the addition of one word you will magically never have enough space again: kids! Driving to visit nearby relatives for a day or two will make you appreciate every cubic foot of cargo room you have.

... a large corporation would never do such a thing ... if they can afford extensive litigation, it's a legit company...
Troll!

Did anyone else read about large tanks of 60% sodium nitrate and 40% potassium nitrite and think "enormous bomb waiting for a primer charge"?
Seriously though, this sounds quite promising, I just wouldn't want to live next door.

Absolutely. The company I "work" for decided to go this route. The founders' wives were MBA's so they put the business in their names -- walla.
