  1. The BAS on The Doomsday Clock Is Moved Closer To Midnight · · Score: -1, Troll

Is a POLITICAL GROUP of idiots... Bureau of ATOMIC scientist getting involved in (man made) so called climate change? What a joke...anyone that takes that group of morons seriously, shouldn't be allowed to vote. Climate change LOL....anything other than the sun does not affect the climate...PERIOD.

Sure hope they aren't on a at&t or Verizon data plan! LOL. The I.T. guy at our office says we use to much bandwith. I sent him this, said we don't use THAT much, so hush ;)

  3. too many suits on FBI's Troubled Sentinel Project Delayed Again · · Score: 1

The problem with a huge bureaucratic octopus like the government, is that there are so many idiots that have to have their thumbs in the pie, that by the time everyone signs off on it, the project is 10+ years behind and the hardware & software is out of date. The FAA has been trying to replace radar systems at airport centers for a long time and when they are about to install it, they find out it's 20 years old and try to update it, starting the cycle again and again.

  4. Oh goodie....stop drilling on Earthquakes That May Be Related To Fracking Close Ohio Oil Well · · Score: 0

Here we go again. ANYTHING to stop the USA from becoming more energy independent. This one will rank up there with save the whales, man made global warming, banning incandescent light bulbs etc. Now we'll have the dopes in congress along with Hussein Obama banning this technology, which will stop the job boom in the Dakota's (red state).

  5. Stopped at the door on The 'Cable Guy' Now a Network Specialist · · Score: 1

I refuse to let the "cable guy" inside my house. If I have a problem, I tell them to check it to the connection point coming into the house. I'll take it from there. "But we need to bla bla bla". No, you don't! I don't want you touching one key on my computer...PERIOD! Seen way to many people have computers screwed up by "cable installers", who have no clue what they are doing. If you have a signal getting to the junction box, I can handle it from there. I wouldn't even let them install my cable gateway (I hate the term modem). I said unless I can pick up the box myself & install it....I'll just go with something else.

  6. handicap parking in the USA on In New Zealand, a System To Watch for Disabled Parking Violators · · Score: 1

Needs to be overhauled. Daily I see people park in those spots and sprint into the stores. Now they may have them for elderly parents or what not, but, I really can't see the DMV giving out those placards as "handicap" for a MENTAL handicap! Doctors write scripts for people who do not need these things. At one university, the "who's who" people, when there is a concert, basketball game etc, clog up the handicap parking with their SUV's, caddy's etc.

  7. Lawsuits on Ford System Will Warn, Correct Lane-Drifting Drivers · · Score: 1

  8. Defeat SOPA on EA, Nintendo, Sony Quietly Withdraw SOPA Support · · Score: 1

The only way we as citizens can defeat this crap is to keep up the pressure. Anyone who thinks this is about piracy, is just nuts. It's all about control. Those IN POWER want to shut down the common man, who up til now has had use of the internet free & clear of speech regulations. Hell, about 70% of the stuff on the net, I don't care for. But, I think opinions are needs, even if I don't agree with them. I know a lot on /. aren't from or in America, but there are still a few of us out there that BELIEVE what the first amendment of the U.S. constitution says. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." What part of MAKE NO LAW do these brain dead morons not understand. They go to congress, and are let in on a little secret club. Laws don't apply to them (such as insider trading). They go there, and in a few short years, making only 175,000 dollars per year, come out MILLIONAIRES. Explain that one.

  9. MAIL IT on Verizon Adds $2 Charge For Paying Your Bill Online · · Score: 1

If I were Verizon's millions of customers, I'd mail every bill to Verizon, and see how long it would take for them to drop this "convenience" fee because processing a paper bill, processing & lag time on a check would be more expensive than doing it electronically. Thanks to regulators, allowing AT&T & Verizon to gobble up the competition, this is what you get with a duopoly.

  10. XDA-Developers will on Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab Won't Get Android 4.0 · · Score: 1

You know XDA, Modaco or some other site will port it. Just because the manufacturer won't, doesn't mean it won't get it. It is just that the majority of users probably could care less if it has the latest & greatest. Also, it goes against the business model of most manufacturers, carriers, to update their devices. Why would anyone go out and get a new device, if they can update it with all the latest bells & whistles. I know my just now retired Dell Streak (Just got a Galaxy Note, it smokes the streak), came with Android 1.6....Between Dell & at&t, the 2.x release was VERY late in coming, so I just rooted it and did it myself. When Gingerbread came along, I didn't update mine. After reading countless stories of this rom works except for this, or that rom works except for that, I just left it alone with a customized official 2.2.2 I just don't think the hardware was up for it, which, is a small way is what Samsung is saying...perhaps the older version doesn't have the necessary resources to handle ICS.

  11. phone companies on Businesses Now Driving "Bring Your Own Device" Trend · · Score: 1

I just wish the United States wireless companies would take that attitude. You provide the service, and if I want to bring MY phone (providing it is compatible with their network), I should be allowed to. Just look at the hoops some are having to do to convince at&t that the Samsung Galaxy Note is a PHONE as well as a tablet. Some are getting data turned off because the Death Star sees the Note as a tablet, not a phone.

Ok, you are a venture capitalist....someone brings an idea to you. Hey, here we have 3 NASA space shuttles, designed 40 years ago, that pretty much have to be rebuilt after every use, are only able to get into low space orbit, costs millions per mile to fly. Would you be interested in throwing some money into this investment, to fly people & maybe small objects into space? They would be laughed out of the office!

  13. I don't want to know on Comet Lovejoy Plunges Into the Sun and Survives · · Score: 1

Wouldn't it be better, since there isn't a d*mn thing we can do to stop it, to NOT KNOW if some stupid asteroid is going to wipe us out like the dinosaurs? We'd just run around like a bunch of idiots doing the rape, pillage and plunder, and for what? Nothing. How about NOT telling us anything, and we'd just wonder why the sky is getting so dark, then BOOM! We'll all toast. ;)

  14. For me, not needed on Self-Contained PC Liquid Coolers Explored · · Score: 1

I use to use a cooler on my old P4 HT computer...back when I played video games. Computer ran almost 5 years, without a hitch, til it was time to retire it. It was a HUGE external affair, with two big cooling tubes. Loud, but under no load or full load, the CPU temp hardly ever moved 5 degrees one way or the other. I think that is the ideal thing for a cooler. Keeping the CPU stable and not the up & down temperature swings, I think, keeps a CPU running longer. I don't play RPG or FS games any more, so when I got a quad core CPU, I just use the stock cooler/heat sink.

  15. Parents fault, not the toy manufacturer on Rare Earth Magnets Pose Threat To Children · · Score: 1

Does it NOT say on toys that they should be kept away from those under______age? Then it is the responsibility of the PARENTS to insure no one under that prescribed age is allowed to be around such toys. Here we go again...there will be endless class action lawsuits, and we'll have to endure more stupid "if you or a loved one has been injured while playing with X toy, call the law offices of we sue and make tons of money". I've gotten so sick of the stupidity of the average human that sometimes I wish a huge asteroid would wipe the whole thing out so nature & god can start all over. People wonder why intelligent life in outer space has not contacted us. Well, when you see stories about how adults are so stupid as to allow a small child anywhere near something they can put into their mouth, then you know why they steer clear of the planet Earth.

I've been on dpreview.com for years. Great place to discuss ideas, get opinions, reviews, tips, tricks. I've had cameras since the late 70's, starting out with my trusty ole Canon AE-1. Then in the early 2000's I started tinkering around with digital. Every couple years, I would sell what I had, and get a more complex camera, ending up with a Panasonic FZ-50 in 2006, and used it until May last year when I got my present camera, Nikon D-5000.
