Heck, how many open WiFi networks do you know because people just "plugged it in and turned it on". Personally, I think the HDTV crap is just that....A push by the government who sees $$$$ in their eyes on the chance to sell the relinquished analog frequencies for big bucks, so they can spend that money on something stupid, to buy votes back home. Both parties are corrupt and need to be tossed out, along with ALL the lobbist in DC.

I've been in the copier business for 25 years. I know of only one example of it happening. About 10 years ago, we had one get broken by a (now former) grocery store manager for one of those all night grocery stores. He not only broke the glass, he bent the scanner rails, and bent the lens box cover. I think the copy your backside problem is because that in the 60's and 70's the mainstay copy machines were huge old Xerox types which had a semi curved glass which was coke bottle thick! The glass on todays photocopiers are just a few millimeters thick, which sure won't hold up to the weight of the "average" person.

Not only did the USA develop the internet, so far, it has mainly been "left alone" from a freedom of speech realm. Now, give control of the internet to the most pathetic, disorganized, and UNcapitalistic organization in the world (the UN) and see what happens. Suddenly, if anyone says something that the UN, or any of its thug 3rd world countries doesn't like, they will threaten to yank connection to the net. If you want root control under the authority of the UN, then have them develop their own net and you connect to it. Also, give the UN control and their socialist agenda will continue. You want to connect to the net? Then pay the "tax" to "help" poor countries connect to the net, which won't happen because as with the oil for food scandal, it won't go where it is suppose to. Most of the oil for food (and any other worthless program) the UN comes up with just does nothing more than to line the pockets of the idiots at the UN, and the thugs of the countries where the help is suppose to go toward.

  8. it's "old" by the time you read it on Internet is Killing the Newspaper · · Score: 5, Insightful

I think one of the reasons for the downfall of the newspaper, is that for the "daily" morning paper to make it to your door by the time you get up in the morning, it has to be put to bed by midnight, so it can be delivered to the areas. If the "breaking news" or headlines are different by say 7am, the internet will have up to date "news", making the print version obsolete.

Well, considering the udder crap on tv these days, perhaps it wouldn't be a bad thing if a lot, if not all, the public were to do without tv for a while. You think it's bad here, I understand that in the UK, you have to pay for a "license" to watch TV. Don't let anyone kid you...the old saying "follow the money" is still true. The big "push" to get the analog frequencies off the air is nothing but a different version of eminent domain. If the government forces the tv stations to give up prime real estate on the vhf/uhf bands, they can sell these frenquencies and reap a ton of money. As with everything else, it's always about the money. This time the consumer gets stuck in the middle.
