  1. vista=windows me? on Lenovo To Shun Linux · · Score: 1

Unless the RC's show me something the betas don't, I'll just stick with XP. Vista has NOT impressed me one bit. I installed beta 2, and was not impressed. Hardware requirements aside, it was slow, and this wasn't on a slow computer. Tried it on my home computer, P4 2.8HT, gig ram, Nvidia 6600GT sata drives, also a new E1505 dual core laptop with gig ram, X1400 video card. Heck, just about ANY flavor of Linux runs faster...unfortunately, I live and work in a world dominated by windows, but I'll just run XP....at least until vista SP1, or whatever comes after vista.

  2. wasn't hard for me on Vista Beta 2 has Major Problems · · Score: 1

I had a spare SATA drive and tossed it in my new Dell 1505, gig of ram X1400 video card. I installed 5308 of Vista, and didn't have any of the problems he had. After install, I just popped in the drivers that vista didn't pick up on and had it up and running with no yellow bangs(!). Other than the fact it probably would have run better with 2 gig of ram, it ran ok right out of the gate. Hopefully, beta2 will be a little tighter, and RC0,1, and or 2 will be coded a little tighter for better optimization. Unless they really screw something up between now and the RTM version, I don't know what all the fury is all about. If they price it right, I'll buy it, but if the prices I saw last week are even close, I'll wait until the OEM version is offered.

As someone who's in his late 40's, I grew up with the space program. Sadly, I cannot say that I am a fan of NASA....as with ANY government agency, it is bloated, without foresight, overstaffed with "upper management" who has NO idea what is going on. The old "can't see the forest because of the trees" comes to mind. When there is a safety issue that comes up, NASA has "go fever" and launches anyway. When safety bumps into political correctness (think foam on the ET) PC wins out. I think the future of space flight is going to be with PRIVATE industry. Government only knows how to spend money...and not very well at that!

The RIAA/MPAA (personally, they are both the same bunch of idiots) calculate that if they released X number of movies/CD's in a year and sold every one of them, they should have made X number of dollars. Now at the end of the year, they only sold Y amount, therefore, they "lost" 6.1 billion. Of course, they don't take in consideration that NO ONE IS BUYING THEIR CRAP because for the last few years, they haven't produced/released anything anyone wants to buy!

Heck, I'm not a computer programmer, intellect etc....just your basic computer junkie who's tinkered with computers for over 16 years. I've been saying this since windows 98SE came out that the reason it is slow, is because it still supports win3.1 apps. Same thing can be said for windows XP. It still supports windows 98 apps. That is one of the reasons apple OS X runs so much faster. It ought to be that if you want to take advantage of a faster OS, then get off the pot and run hardware/software that takes advantage of the newer technology. Yes, it's expensive, but if you want all the whizz bang features, dump the old stuff. Wouldn't it be interesting to build a new windows OS, take all the legacy support out, and see how it would run? Heck, I bet that it would sort of run like linux....from a CPU requirement. You wouldn't need a dual core 2Ghz CPU and 2gig of ram....it would probably run on a P3 quite well!
