    It's effective because it's simple though, no need to have supporting handsets or networks, just power.

    Is it not the property owner's right to prevent you entering (with a mobile) anyway? The least one could do is comply with their request to make it silent.

    And what's with the beheading crap, that's for murderers (with full intent, not accident or self-defense).

    Tell that to Mirza Tahir Hussain, who just got released from Death Row in Pakistan for a self defence incident when he was being sexually assaulted at gunpoint by a taxi driver. It took Prince Charles, Tony Blair and many more before them to get him freed, not killed, after being found innocent but then retried under Islamic law.

    Just on your power glitch and statistically small possibilities point: Why wouldn't you want UPS/generators mandated for voting machines? After all they wouldn't been needed for long, and what with voting being so important. And ECC memory used, or duplicate components?

    Less assumptions made about how the thing works? Trial and error should still find the rare conditions that might be stated in such a manual, and also find those that are not.

    If the sound cancels out, then that's because the amplitude is reduced as each peak from the source fills the trough of the cancellation, and vice versa. Low net amplitude is low net dBs, low energy, low power, not damaging.
