This is going to be fun ! Federal judiciary (Utah, Delaware) to move to Linux. Shall we we see SCO sueing the judges ?!
PEC Solutions' press release says: "PEC will support the transition of the Judiciary's mission-sensitive applications, including case management, finance and accounting, probation and pretrial services, and case-tracking management systems to the Linux standard. PEC will provide Linux operating system and applications technical support and assistance, including planning, advice and recommendations, help desk support, installation and testing support, and full problem resolution."
The reason for my homepage is only to make my old friends can find me with Google.
I keep wondering what is the reason for most of the homepages I bump into. Mostly full of unimportant stuff. And the same goes for the BLOGs. There are not many of us to have interesting and important things to publish DAILY !
It somehow reminds me of the Rosie-robot from "The Jetsons" cartoons from the 60'ies and again in the 80'ies. If don't remember, check it here: http://www.cybercomm.nl/~ivo/photo_ROSIE.ht ml or http://www.jeffbots.com/rosie.html
Three arms and a "head". Two cameras. But what else can it do besides opening doors. The fact that it looks somehow human with it head eyes and hands is of course nice but finally more important is what is inside the head. Can it be commanded verbally ? Can it be taught simple tasks without programming ? I mean that opening a door is nothing today...
There's (again) something I don't understand. If the intensity of the beam is only 20 % of the sun light, why don't just catch the sun energy with that vast 10 km receiver ?
Damon Dimmick is dead wrong in writing about "small countries" !
The story says: "An attempt by developing countries to put"...
and later: "Poorer nations such as Brazil, India, South Africa, China and Saudi Arabia, "...
Everyone knows that China is the biggest in population but do you remember that it has also the biggest internet-userbase. You can call China poor and developing, but not small !
I thought that I was a keen Open Source-preacher, but listen to these (separate and shortened) clips from the Novell announcement:
"Novell expands its open source commitment "
"... acquisitions affirm Novell's commitment to promoting the open source model and developer community. "
"Responding to customer demands for open, standards-based computing, Novell has been dedicated to a cross-platform vision for four years now, and Linux is an increasingly important part of that strategy,"
"Novell understands the power of open, standards-based computing, and has been moving in that direction for some time,"
"we're looking forward to joining forces to help customers gain the benefits of Linux and to help Novell continue to expand its role in the open source community."
"SUSE LINUX... provides... services with the high-availability and scalability features needed for mission-critical environments. "
"... provide a powerful business network to promote more rapid Linux adoption around the globe. "
"Beyond the technology, the acquisition will also expand Novell's strategic commitment to the open source community. "
"Novell is firmly committed to open standards and maintaining the existing open source kernel development efforts."
"From advocacy and development resources to events and support of open source efforts like kernel projects, XFree86, ReiserFS, KDE, GNOME and Mono, Novell stands side-by-side with the open source community. "
I've been a happy user of apt4rpm (http://apt4rpm.sourceforge.net/). Much smoother to use than up2date and of cource you don't have to register to rhn and fill in those gallups.
Apt4rpm is equal to Debian's powerfull apt-updating tool except it uses rpm-packager instead Debian's dpkg.
Now I don't know what will happen to the support. Did the rpm-packages so far originate from RedHat ?
How do we know what is carcinogens for dinosaurs. Thay could have quite a differnet digestion system from ours and current animals. What irritates our stomach could be healthy to dinosaurs.
Why didn't they split the data so that no personal information was even delivered outside their own company ? The form could be devided in parts and each part could have a unique id. Later on combine the translations according to the id.
"He estimates the asteroid measured less than 10 metres. This is too small to have posed a danger to Earth, although it would have made a spectacular fireball had it entered the atmosphere." That surprices me. Is the atmosphere so good a shield that it would have broken THAT into dust and gases ?
How is the attack defined ? I'm getting knockings on port 135 every minute on my Linux server... none of them have so far been succesfull (to my knowledge)
But somehow I'm convinced that Linux+GNU is the most affordable base for the new system. Also the fact that it is said to be open source supports this. I expect us to see a new Linux-distro approaching from the east with a good support for Asian languages.
So now we can start keeping eye on the schedule ! I can already see the Washington Post's spaculative banner headline: "Linux Major Update late for two weeks ! What's up ? Is Linus falling behind ?"

You don't say that the said hacker IS working for a company on similar closed source program (=unmentioned closed source operating systems) ?! :o

And imagine the price of that bicycle! Oh boy it would be stolen in seconds; with a saw which has super hard teeth.
Ah that's why the distance to the office feels like longer every morning !

"will highlight Microsoft's advantages in areas such as security, feature-completeness and total cost of ownership." Step four: "Then you win."
Isn't decoding a morse message a violation against DCMA (Digital Copyright Millennium Act) ?
No we shouln't ignore it because there are many who really believe SCO ! Why did SCO's stock jump 20 % ? All can't see the bluff of SCO .
Could the developers' group sue Microsoft for receiving Linux in violation to GPL ? MS did buy a license from SCO or did it ?
