    after some age (13?)
You get issued your Personalausweis (Personal Identity card) at the age of 16.
I remember a friend being checked when he didn't have his on him one time. In the middle of the night, in the middle of the forest. what else are a couple of young guys gonna do besides drugs, right?
anyway they asked him what his name was and where he lived, ran a check on him, and everything was alright. As the parent said, the police in general are much more relaxed about stuff like that here, than what I was used to in the states.

But someone that knows what he's talking about with the ground crew is better than no one, and if he manages to land the thing and totally wrecks it but saves 1/2 of the passengers - that's a good thing.

(But then again on one of the tapes I used to listen to as a kid, an _elephant_ lands a plane and saves all the human passengers, though he breaks of a wing - so how hard can it be *g*)

here we're copying the US. The consumer culture and everything that connects to it that is. think TV, think filesharing, think music.
First we copy the cultural assets (Realiy shows, American Idol, the music, and other blabla) and then the "appropriate" legislation. sucks living on this earth. anyone wanna move to the moon with me? If we get enough people to donate we could maybe...

    I doubt It'll give'em $2M, but still...

I'd love some little Dinosaur doll, though. That'd be the perfect way to show my affection fo Mozilla:"I even take Mozy to bed with me", or the little more offensive (thus better suited for /.):"I even sleep with Mozilla".
And they could make little Firebird cigarette lighters! And come up with something that somehow utilizies Thunderbird (yeah I know, creativity is not my thing...), and...

and it's little more than a database search...
Having gone through this (got a Jordanian Passport):
"little more" is not what I'd call it. I'm not sure if it was called a "DS-157", but it took about 45 min telling the officer about everything that was on the Visa application form already, telling him what my plans in the US were, and having a picture and my fingerprints taken.(great so now they know everything about me, very relaxing) Then after 4 weeks I had to report back to the INS in Minniapolis,MN. That was the nearest office but still a five hour drive. And all that for asking me questions again and proving that I was staying where I had said I was and doing what I had said I was. I can somehow understand that actions, though I don't like them, but "little more than a database search" is not what that is.
But I guess that's what you meant by "..." *g*

So the only place where we are safe for now on is in some 3rd world countries where they just have bigger problems than "piracy", maybe even real pirates with eyecaps and everything. Who knows *g*.
But why am I joking? It's just sad. We need a scheme in which musicians/actors/writers can make money without selling CDs/DVDs,.../books. Or a change in mind in which "star"/manager != millionaire

But I suppose that won't be anywhere in my lifespan.
