I have no problems with people linking my /. account to other logins on the internet that use "Whoever57", and post on similar topics.

Had I posted elsewhere as "Whoever57" and put a photo of myself and more information, linking to that would be OK, but I haven't.

That assumes that my guess that "Rei" on /. is the same as KarenRei in the Model 3 Owner's forum is actually correct. I have no information on this.

Citation? Because official designations shows San Diego as the 17th most populous metropolitan area, while the SF Bay area is ahead in 12th place, and the definition of the latter doesn't encompass much of the East Bay.

You don't have to be part of the .001% to buy a Tesla. .001% of the US population is approximately 3000 people. Tesla has sold more than 200,000 cars in the USA.

The average new car costs $25k. A model 3 costs (after rebates) about $35k, so it is not out of reach of ordinary people. Then factor in the lower cost of ownership and it looks like the cost of an average car.

Just because you are a failure in life and can't afford a Tesla doesn't mean that many ordinary people can't afford one.

Tax breaks are a reduction in expenses. It is not income received.

When this deal was originally discussed on /., there were many ignorant people pushing this incorrect narrative then. I see that you did not learn the truth at that time.

The deal calls for payments (not just tax reductions) from the state to Foxconn. They are called tax credits -- but if the company's tax is negative because of the credits, money will flow from the state to the company.

This is similar to tax credits for solar power installations -- if your taxes go negative, you get a check from the government (unlike credits for electric vehicles, which cannot result in you getting a check from the government).

They only issue now is how much of the credits are dependent on performance by Foxconn.

Not really. It's only the BBC channels that do not carry ads. Most (if not all) OTA channels carry ads. So you can often watch programs that would go out ad-free in the USA through a service like Showtime, with ads on Channel4.

Try to understand the concept of "context". We were discussing the concept of raising funds to road repair by taxing electricity. Thus, my prior installation of solar panels would not be taxed. Hence your snark is just that: a snarky, irrelevant comment.

Secondly, I was quite careful to write that I pay nothing for electricity. You need to understand the difference between marginal costs (like electricity) and fixed costs (like the cost of installing the solar system).

Thirdly, and I realize that you did not know this, but, we bought a second electric car in 2018 and still pay nothing for electricity, so, in this case the cost of energy for that second car is zero.

Finally, before we got the second EV, my calculations showed payoff for my solar system in 6 years. With the price of electricity likely to rise in CA and the addition of a second EV, the payoff point is probably 4-5 years.

Thanks for your contributions to my finances through your generous subsidies to my solar system and EVs.
