exactly , all these people comment they will just be shot down, yet in iraq, with people trying to shoot them down how many have been lost because of the enemy? probably far less than those that crashed due to pilot error.
Of course that also is how you attack one of these. You figure out which frequencies they are using and you use hand held directional antenna and jam the signal. Just long enough to bring it down, everything most likely could be carried in a backpack. They are pretty stable flying machines, so you might want to jam only one channel if you can preferably elevator control just after a control input.
what if your on some one else's machine? There are countless time before I bought a laptop where I wanted to access a document I had stored at home.
I use gmail to store all my mail, but I also download it all to my laptop. Online or off I have access to that data now. I hardly ever use a full "office" sweet at home. all I really need is done with a simple spreadsheet, and word processor. of those two I use about 10% of the features found in each. So I consider Open Office bloated for what I use, but have switched out of closed formats.
With Google write, you can save your data locally. So keep information on a thumb drive, use google write, spreadsheet to open that data anywhere.
You have secured your data, but have the option of not having to carry a laptop if you don't want to.
I agree completely. Open Source Software isn't defect free. Open Source Isn't bug free.
Not having to rely on a single point of failure --- priceless.
That point of failure can be hardware, software, or corporate--either yours or theirs. I wouldn't trust all Apple software, an all IBM software, or an all Sun software either, So why would anyone trust an All Microsoft Software? open Source doesn't come from one source. Best of all you have the tools and pieces needed so you can hire a company to patch it for you.
My 12" Powerbook is routinely hooked up to my 23" HDTV. yes It can play 720p videos just fine.
I have a firewire external drive so my laptop has 200gb's of possible storage.
Multi monitors? My powerbook will span both display's at the same time.
10) laptop's with poor cooling overheat. usually they run windows, because windows has inconsistent power, and fan controls. Laptop's setup to run their fans poperly don't overheat unless under load for long periods. As in a server, but you should use a laptop for serving files anyways, the Disk I/O sucks.
And this crap has been coming out of the president's office(both parties) since at least Eisenhowser. Each successive president grabs a little bit more power for themselves.
Since when has MSFT done anything to standard? MSFT didn't like javascript so they made ActiveX. MSFT couldn't corrupt Java(though they did try and got sued) So they made.NET. IE7 doesn't support existing standards why should the rest of the industry wait for MSFT.
IE7 is a lot better than IE6. Fact is if MSFT doesn't make the "standard" MSFT won't support it properly.
That was my thought too. Multiple cores with a handful of specific cores.
IBM's cell processor would be a lot more useful in general if it was slightly modified. replace one or two aux cores with GPu cores. 2-4 as more general purpose cores, and one or two FPGA style cores, possibly with preset configuration options(ie audio processing, physics, video, etc).
Complicated, yes. But can you imagine what one could do. Your single computer could be switched on the fly to encode an audio and video stream far more efficiently. Using GPu, and PPU's, game play could be increased.
it is a pipe dream. There is a lot of work. Software would have to be modified, And the net gain may not be all that much. Of course long term gain on such a porject would be very useful.
While I agree with most of your post climate change is 100% natural. antarctic researchers are saying that a 3000 year old ice shelf is breaking off.
3000 years old? That means that the pyramids are older than that ice shelf. When the pyramids were built that ice shelf didn't exist. I bet carbon dioxide from the 50,000 odds workers caused the ice shelf before this one to melt.
Is the world getting warmer, yes. is carbon dioxide to blame, in part.
Fact is that the earth's climate changes on it's own. We have 100 years of viable recorded weather data of a planet that is billions of years old, and we know for fact that the entire planet at one point in time was a lot warmer, with higher CO2 and O2 levels.
Do we need to stop burning fossil fuels, hell yes. But the fact that Global warming scientists point at a 3000 year old ice shelf melting without looking at the simple fact that it is only a 3000 year old ice shelf. in the past 100,000 years how many times has that ice shelf melted and reformed?
while I agree with the overall quailty those artifacts are most likely network, or hardware induced. As I don't get artifacts when i play itunes TV shows directly from my mac mini.
The apple tv is massively underclocked, and most likely can't handle it properly. Hence why you don't buy revision A apple products.
All that said I get digital artifacts on m cable tv lines all the time. They can't keep it running smoothly.
>>There is no technical nor marketing reason you can't have a cell phone on board, if cell phones were a real danger then they would not be in carry on allowance anymore.
FAA is very conservative, and the FCC is a political body.
It's not technical but social. If that loud mouth jerk salesman doesn't shut up at 30,000 feet I will shove that phone so far up is arse that the vibrated mode will help break down his food.
Just like not telling the passengers what is really happening on the ground, it is too keep panic down. To help a group of people relax. you put 100-500 people in a closed bottle and you have the makings of a mob. The average IQ of a mob is inversely proportional to the number of people in it. therefore 100 people with 120 IQ each, has a mob IQ of about 20.
Also a mac Mini is One tenth the physical size and a heck of a lot quieter than any desktop PC I have come across.
I can use my Mac mini in my living room and not hear it. Yet I can hear the steady hum from my pc's in the next room over.
Compare Apple's to Apple's. At least price out a shuttle, or a custom mini-itx setup before you compare the tiny mac mini to a dud.
Yes I said Dud. Both dell's I have bought were cheap pieces of crap. even the machine I custom built was better and cost a lot less. It wasn't always so. There is a dell at work that keeps on going. Of course it is now 13 years old.
Even if it is 165,000 people it's not that big of a deal. Apple is selling millions of ipods.
The fact is the subscription music plan just sucks. It's like paying for radio. XM and sirus have a good idea, but very few people are willing to shell out money for music that stops playing when they stop paying.
It is a nice market, and always will be.
The best part of itunes is that it has more than just songs. I don't own an ipod. I just don't like any of the models and I am not impressed with any other music player either. But I still shop at iTunes. I grab the Battlestar galactica or Hero's episodes I missed and forgot to tivo.
I then unplug my monitor's dvi connector, and plug in my tv's dvi cable.
Even the simple 640x480 resolution they sell looks good on a 23" HDTV. not spectacular but better than the regular tv reception I get.
that's my thought. Politcal speeches can only be aired on one channel. Yet not add youtube to the list. personally though i just wish the USA would only air politcal speeches on just one channel. that way i can avoid them easier.

So an overall better codec. at 128kbs it sounds roughly the same as an 196kbs mp3. Or roughly the same as an OGG at the same bit rate.
the 256kbs mp4 that EMI wants to sell drm free is only good news.
MP3's staying power is odd. one can add support for both easily, yet most players seem to think WMA is the only way to go. They could support MP4, MP3, and WMA.
Yet they still won't provide support for *nix in any way shape or form.
I want malware, and viruses for my OSX box. it just isn't fair that the viruses and malware only works on windows. I have animated cursors too. Heck right my ssh port is open go ahead and try to crack it.
I agree and disagree. a nut, bolt, are perfect things for 3D printing. Even custom frames. I can see a day not to far off in the future for the rapid replication of such objects.
But what about a calculator. A simple calculator is more than just the outside shell, and screws but also the components. Those can't be replicated in such a fashion. The screen is built with different techniquies from the hard plastic case. The circuit boards will have to be built by a second machine, and chips a third.
Combining them all properly is what makes this design of rabid prototyping a poor choice. You can build a model of a house or plane, but not of next years computer.
Given the fact that Maureen O'Gara, a reporter(and I use that loosely)tried to find out where PJ lived, and then published photos of her alleged house, brother and mother without ever verifing if it really was the right Pamela Jones I too would be a bit paranoid. If I published photo's of Darl Mcbride's house you can believe he wold have the police after me even if it was the wrong house.
Given the facts in this case, and what Darl has said ad done, I too would be scared of what Darl would try to do.
View them yourself. I became a paying member just to watch them earlier. Heck even the low res ones looks decent on my tv, i can't imagine what the dvd sets look like.
A G4 can run at 3/4 the speed of a P4 and do the same amount of work on less power. Dual G4 were just barely keeping up though.
An intel core Dou kicks the crap out of the G5 though. Apple got bit by the supplier bug. It's processor suppliers could no longer keep up with Intel. Apple had no choice, Switch or die.
That being said Only apple could pull off running multiple processors types in their product lines.
Each OS X app has PPC, PPC64, Intel, and Intel64 binaries. no one else can do that. Linux, BSD, can run on all those platforms just with different binaries for each app.

>>Still no sign that the update will enable fast forward and rewind in audio tracks.
sorry but the DRM requirements prevent you from rewinding, or fast forwarding through a song. you must listen to it all.

Like the Wii fat lazy geeks will get tired of using there muscles and revert the GUI back to the win2k, or dos.
>>You mean YOU don't compile the kernel by using tetris bricks?
Linux is modular enough that you could do it that way. You can select options based on blocks of various sizes.

you do realise the entire internet was designed as a hardened system to help communication in face of a massive nuclear strike.
What starts with an expensive cold military purpose becomes a tool for every day use.
There are very few things the military does that won't have practical everyday applications in 20 years.
