  5. simple on IL School District to Monitor Student Blogs · · Score: 0

Without using complex legalise jibjab, I think it's simple. Of course, parents should be doing this in the first place, but times are changing. It's ok for schools to look, but unless they spot a specific threat, like "we smoked weed in the school's restroom", then they should leave it be. If they spot an unrelated threat, such has semi nude pics or drug use off campus, then it would be nice of the school to inform the parents, but not take any official action or be involved in any part of the process. Don't mix parenting issues with administrative action! In the case of a private school, they can do whatever they want. They're allowed to choose only the best students to represent their school, that's the whole point in their existence. But public has no right to choose the quality of students, they are tax payers, and that's all that they have to be. I don't mind them helping, parents these days seem to need it, but I do mind them taking official action on unrelated incidents. But as some others pointed out, where do you draw the line on unrelated and related. And where is the line between affecting and not affecting other students. For example, the incident may have happened out of school, but it affects people who go to that school. Taking drugs on your own time can affect your grades, and other students if you influence them into doing the same. It's all shady. The simple answer is that our parents need to do their job (and quit calling it a job) and install some common sense into their kids. Maybe give them a good beating (if that's still legal). But that will never happen. This problem will always exist, it's human nature.

If our current government doesn't follow the constitution, could they be considered the enemy? So supporting our own gov't can be treason? That is what some groups are saying... As an Iraq vet, I'm angry at how some groups call all soldiers evil anti-american defenders of Bush. Yes, I chose to go to Iraq and get almost twice my normal pay while not having to kill anyone; my other option was to be labeled a traiter and coward, not follow my legal orders, forfeit pay, and go to Leavenworth. Every soldier who signs up for the military believes they will defend the constitution, not receive legal binding orders to break the constitution. We're dammed either way, so be fair and don't blame the troops. A lot of troops are against the Iraq war and hate Bush, so don't be so blind. Instead of pointing fingers, how about getting us some voting machines (instead of swimming pools and steak at the chow hall) in Iraq, or help make it mandatory for absentee ballots to be provided to the troops, and actually counted!

I spent most of my free time in Iraq at the MWR using the internet. There were a ton of blocked sites. Every proxy site that Google will spit out is blocked. Then I got the idea of uploading a proxy script to my own host, but I was afraid my site would get blocked and I wouldn't be able to update it anymore. So I didn't. Eventually they blocked FTP anyways. I know the Air Force guys use mIRC, but they must allow only a certain server, because I couldn't get it working. I do know there are multiple networks, typically the internet in the office is more strict than MWR. In the office you can't even check yahoo mail. Most of the largest free blog sites like blogger were blocked too. Nothing to do with Marines, btw. The Air Force and some of the Civilian guys control the intarweb.

  11. just be RECOMMENDED on .xxx Domain Remains in Limbo · · Score: 0

like you said, .xxx would be global. the standards of what is x-rated are not the same globally, even within the same country. there are lots of "posing only" sites that considers itself art and natural, etc. what of the naked babies in diaper ads? what of the native africans walking around the villiage which is their custom? Or the health site that shows learning aids of breast feeding or a baby being born. i therefore think the use of .xxx should just be RECOMMENDED, not enforced. Schools, libraries, work computers, and so on could block .xxx with no harm done, while developers can publish .xxx sites without fear of violating anything. nude "art" doesn't belong in libraries and such anways, too easy for kids to glance over and see. can't really force all pr0n or nude art sites to switch to .xxx because of different standards, and can't force regular websites to not use .xxx. Just recommend, the same way .com is supposed to be commercial, .org is for organizations, etc, but not really enforced.

Same thing has happened to me. Ice breakers are free, and they can say yes, no, or blow off. So why after sending literally hundreds of friendly messages to girls, they don't even reply with a free icebreaker? And why when my membership expires then I finally get an icebreaker? Also another big issue is that many of the profiles are really email collector bots, who later spam you or send a link to their webcam pr0no page. They are typically the really hot girl with only 3 sentences saying generic but nice stuff and always online. Also be careful, I've tried another site, forget which one, it turned out that the other person had to be a paid member also just to read the message you sent. That brings your chances down a lot since I think a very low percent ever actually pay.

They make chow hall lines quicker because we don't have to sign, just put the card in and out. Saves on paperwork too. Our ID cards are also used when leaving and entering kuwait, to keep track of all the soldiers and other gov't workers over here. Accountability of people can be a good thing.
