Your examples seem to miss one important point. Here is a counter-example:
Say Johnny terrorist goes to some country where possessing chemical weapons is legal. As you suggest, there should be nothing stopping him buying those weapons in that country.
However the instant he brings them back into a country where they are illegal, the law enforcers will be all over him.
It's the same with allofmp3. If you go to russia and buy it, then it's all well and good. But if you bring that back into your own country, and it is illegal, then you are going to face problems.
This is what they are trying to achieve here.
Which is it? Do you want Vista tech backported to XP or do you want Microsoft to keep Vista tech exclusive to Vista?
I want to be able to play the newest games without buying and installing a new OS. Easy enough.
Seriously though, what are we trying to stop?
As far as I am concerned, if the record, movie industries want to put drm and the rest on what they produce why should I care? Where does it say I have the right to entertainment of any kind?
If I don't like DRM, I won't buy their products and will spend my time elsewhere.
I don't get why any of the comedy animated shows are even cloe to popular
They are funny for a lot of people. Pretty simple really. For me the simpsons is just smile funny these days, whilst family guy makes me laugh out loud quite often.
I don't like American dad though. Each to their own.
I was about to write pretty much the same post. Well said.
The only thing I will add is that (1) is the real problem here. We don't really know what our actions will do, for better or worse over the long run of our planet.
There is nothing to say that environmentalists trying to 'fix' the problem will only make it worse.
So yes, being able to adapt is the key, and more importantly getting off this planet so we actually have half a chance of being able to continue doing it.
All mags seemed to eventually suffer from the problem of their writers getting too big for their boots though. Once it became about them and not the games anymore it was time to move on.
and it offers a lot of innovations for the genre, especially in how the NPC's act
Can you elaborate on this? I'm interested in what actual innovation is shown in this game?
What I would love is Battle Isle 3 ported to the GBA or DS. If you love advance wars, go play that. I still remember spending hours waiting for the PC to make it's move and then spending another hour over mine. (Obviously they would need to speed it up a tad;))
Java is coming along, and a java app can now run just about as good as a native one. However the problem comes when you want to do something else at the same time. It's one thing to run quickly, it's another thing to run quickly whilst not using up 99% of your system's resources. This is the real problem with java today.
What I don't understand is why this would be in the international wire reports. What happened to secrecy.
Sometimes the best weapon is the weapon that the bad guys *think* you have. If people start to believe they can be killed at any time or any place it can tend to make people want to give the bad guy game up.
The same principle is true, tell them there are 10 000 wacky ways that we can come and get them. They might not believe any of them, but you can bet they'll look twice next time a bug flies in the window.
The point for me is that the score doesn't matter one little bit. What is important is *why* they gave it that score and/or why they didn't.
For example the reviewer might mark a game down because it was too hard. For me that would be a plus. They might say it is fun but too short, which also might appeal to me at certain times.
What is also important for me is to see some actual gameplay. I can often pick up more about a game from a 2 minute video review than a 10 page article. When you can see things like camera, frame rate and so on it really helps you get a handle on what you are in for.
Unless of course, *our* contribution to global warming is actually holding back much worse climate change and storms. BAD stuff is hard to define in such a complicated system.
A good example is massive forest fires. Bad thing right? Well no not really, they actually tend to be a good thing in the long run. The trick is not to get caught in the middle at the time.
This would be true in a criminal case. As far as I am aware the burden of proof is on the defendant because it is a civil matter.
The RIAA only has to show that it is *likely* that she was downloading and they will win.
Or yeah, I could be wrong. I would be in a sane world...
Suggesting that we have a specific set of conditions is the moronic statement.
The environment is always changing, things are dieing off and other things are flourishing. This is exactly what will happen with 'global climate change'. What people are concerned about is now things will happen too quickly, but there is nothing to suggest that this wouldn't be the case naturally, or that it could be even worse.
Here is a challenge for your technology. Put a small boat in a bathtub. Move your arm back and forth through the water violently so that large waves are created in the tub.
Now pick another point in the bathtub and devise a way to make the boat move directly to that point by manipulating only the water using your other arm.
But make sure you get it right on the first go, because otherwise you don't really know where the boat will end up, and you could be in all sorts of trouble.

Or did anyone else, upon reading the headline in their rss list automatically think 'this will be from zonk'.

I still have fond memories of mean machines sega.

Yet I still think all the mud throwing at the Chinese government is rediculous
;)
Followed by:
China is not North Korea
Isn't some random North Korean guy going to stand up for his country here? Maybe something like: 'North Korea is not America'
Your well thought out arguments and opinions have no place on slashdot. Please find somewhere else to be sensible and informative.
Granted, the site may be biased
No a site called AntiPolygraph.org biased? You think?

No game will be released without 2010 in the title. They will all come from EA and cost more than in previous years to help combat piracy.
You'll never feel quite as dirty as taking the Avatar to the brothels in the Ultima series.
Google is not evil and will never be evil.
Unless their share price drops. Then they will be...definately.
Yes apparently his tells you what time it is as well.
