Right and they "could" do many other things to be fair to that artists, but they aren't. AS it stands right now you are saying that it's legit to say, "I am going to buy music from AllofMP3 because I am sick of the music industry "ripping" me off." So, you fuck the artist by not giving them any money and you give the music publishers even more ammo to mess with prices. And in the end, no one is ripping you off. You can easily choose not to buy music that is supported by the RIAA - http://www.dontbuycds.org/ or http://www.boycott-riaa.com/. So, if you really want to help support indie artists buy paying them and not dealing with the big labels. Don't try to use AllofMP3 as some kind of bullshit protest.

Hahahahaha, playing the race card, nice. If you think that organized crime isn't far reaching in Russia and doesn't have it's fingers in most things that are profitable then you've never talked with people that have had to do business in Russia and other former Soviet Union countries. Your card hasn't been misued yet and maybe never will be, that doesn't mean that it can't or it won't. Of course that's a danger everywhere, but in a country where organized crime is pervasive and powerfull it's a greater risk. Lastly, the RIAA has very little to do with the contracts that Sony, EMI, etc. negotiate with iTunes or other music services. Sure artists don't get much with current deals, but that is partially their fault for letting music publishers screw them over. Even then they still get around 12% after Apple takes their cut which was 12% more than the 0% they get from ROMS.

Ruling out all the other points (that I actually agree with), the big issue is that they can offer the prcing they do because they are not legit. They don't pay artists and either does ROMS. So, it's pretty easy to offer "VERY competitive pricing" when you don't have to pay your suppliers. So, in essence you are NOT paying the artists, but are paying a shady Russian company with your credit card. Don't kid yourself, you aren't doing the artists any favours.

So, basically you spent $200 supporting a Russian pirate company. Good for you. I can't believe the idiots that somehow think that paying for AllofMP3 is better than just searching torrents or any other P2P network. At least that way no one is kidding themselves that it's legit. AllofMP3 doesn't give a cent to the artists and from all the reports I've read either does ROMS. So, continue to give your credit card to a sahdy Russian company and pat yourself on the back.

How about sympathy for the recording artists that don't see a red cent of the money AllofMP3 takes in? They claim to pay royalties, but no one on the other side of the pond has ever gotten a cheque from them. AllofMP3 claims to be 100% legal because they say they don't sell outside Russia. Funny that they don't block IPs from other countries and that they accept payments in US$.

I have yet to run across an Open Source graphics app that comes close to the functionality and polish that CorelDraw has. Tha goes double for audio and video apps. As much as people like to think that OSS can solve everything it can't. People just don't have the drive, experience, resources, time or any combination of the latter to compete with pro audio apps like Pro Tools, Vegas, Sound Forge or even Audition. I've looked at pretty well every OSS audio app out there (always interested in new tools) and none come close to what I need for professional work. Don't even talk about video editing. It's just too difficult to make a pro apps that demands support without cash flow. Now, don't tell me about the great advantages of OSS like being able to fix bugs yourself, I am not a programmer and can't afford to hire one. However, I can afford to buy on off the shelf app that has some kind of support and prospects for regular updates. Huge difference between a casual user playing with Linux apps and someone that uses software to make a living.

Actually, no it's not a bad sign. The PS2 has a huge install base and many of those people are on their second or 3rd PS2. I know when my old school PS2 died I bought a slim model. The price differential is also a huge issue. $129 vs. $499 is a major difference. Also, game library wise the PS2 has an insane amount compared to the 360. The current numbers of PS2 vs. 360 mean very little. Hell, at one time the PS1 was outselling the PS2 as well.

As for the "founding" fathers crap, I am not American so I don't care. Even if I was I highly doubt they would have been okay with a situation where an individual could not choose to control the fruits of their labour regardless of their being physical or something more abstract like a song. If you make a "CD" and choose to give it away online that's up to you. However, contrary to waht the parent poster says I don't believe that just because I don't always have a physical product that I shouldn't have the same control as the guy that produces widgets.

Also, Firewire and USB recording interfaces are just tools and have nothing to do with the end product. I'd put a well done 24 track tape recording ahead of the vast majority of jerk-offs with Garagaband any day. Clean and pristine digital samples aren't alwyas what is pleasing to the ear. If they were then why are there so many tape/tube amp simulators out there?

Contrary to popular opinion, artists do not have a Natural Right to profit from their work. In fact it is the opposite: the natural state of creative works is to be "owned" by all of society, because (unlike real (i.e. physical) property) they can be freely shared and duplicated.
Ummm, no. That's your take on the issue. As an artist myself I think you are full of it. I don't create works solely for profit, but when I do enter a contract to create commercial works I expect that my contract would be honored and I get paid for it. Also, if I produce work to sell on my own to pay my bills I don't think anyone has a right to that work wihtout my permission.
