I agree completely. The coop mode of games is sometimes what makes the best game overall. I would love to do a virtual football game where all the players are real. How cool would that be?:)
ESEA is actualy quit successful.:) I know quite a few guys who make some decent cash to help subsidize their incomes. If you don't understand it thats fine, but it should be respected that people do care enough about learning how to play that they are willing to do so. American capitalism is encouraged in esports. I think its a great example. If the idea sucks that bad it won't survive.
Are you guys even aware of what the terms are? It's not that LAN Centers are trying to screw valve. A copy of the game is legally purchased for each machine. Fair enough right? No, Valve insists on an additional $10 per machine per MONTH.
I operate 2 centers with 20 computers each. I purchased legally 40+ copies of Halflife BEFORE Steam was released. We were legal until they made this change to the steam engine. They change to STEAM and then decide we are illegal if we don't pony up the cash every month. That is not a fair business practice.
If you buy a car and pay it off, you don't expect your manufacturer to come back 2 years later and start billing you monthly to use it. Thats crazy. If it was that way from the begining or even with Halflife2 that is fine and their right. To change the rules years after things have been in place is crap. Thats just my side and opinion on it. Please reread those term above.
On my 40 machines, I have to pay $400 a MONTH to valve for a game I already purchased. So after a year I have paid an additional $4,800 to Valve. That doesn't count the 40+ licenses I bought originally on top of that fee. Consider Steam gone from my centers.
q3 is dead on a competitive gaming scene. Or at least it is in the limelight. Games like Call of Duty have gained alot of momentum and are on the q3 engine. Everything has just shifted for the most part to team based shooters. Painkiller might bring back that 1v1 action of old though. I love it all.
I would love to see more rts, and other types of gameplay. I think it would be a better balance. I Would actually really like to see Natural Selection or Savage in game play on a competitive level. With that mix of FPS and RTS it can be at least a little more diverse. I like games that play out like a movie rather than something that is a round after round rehash.
I will be at the CPL to check to compete with my teams, and I will be running a Natural-Selection tourney in the BYOC. I am afraid that it is going to be hard to trump the giants who already have a huge following or deep pockets. The CPL is headed in the right direction, but they can't make everyone happy at once. At least they let us do our BYOC tourney's to give things a try. Thats pretty cool of them and afterall its what got CS it start to dethrone q3. Scary eh?:)
This will definately hurt the pro-gaming scene, and it really sucks. My team was going to attend, but we got bad vibes, and heard too many rumors. I was not suprised when all this went down.
There were at least 8 tournaments scheduled for this event. Only 2 were completed. So don't flame valve. Warcraft3, and ut2k3 were the only events to be completed. rtcw, america's army, call of duty, and more were not completed, and some never were even started.
This was not about Valve, because as someone else pointed out, the CPL had a perfect event using Steam, and there is a lan center program for events that don't have internet. cxg decided to wing their event, and did not research or plan anything out. They had their competitors running the cables, and building sponsor booths! They didn't bother to bring install cd's for the games they were hosting tournaments for.
For now, TAU(my team) will only play at CPL, and WCG. Sad day for esports.:(
I recently just got an HDTV ready 54" tv which I just love. I have not thought about hooking up a game to it yet, but that may be because I don't play console games. I only play FPS on the computer.
I would like to find ways to expand the field of view in my FPS games like Halo, that would be sweet, and I think help tremendously with gameplay.
I strongly felt this movie went away from sci-fi, and more towards the religous stuff. I feel as though the ending changed and they backed off what could have been a very cool twist, and plot line. Instead they went with the predictable, overly religious feel good hollywood ending.
Why oh why did they hint as to a matrix within a matrix. that really screwed me up, and had me expecting some profound explanation to everything. Instead of get Jesus being born again. crucified, and all.:(
Too man holes left in the plot if you start breaking everything down point by point. All in all, I am not mad, nor sad. It was a good trilogy. It just so happened, I thought I had it figured out, turns out it was face value for what it was.
I think that in order to be more successful, they are going to have to get to all mediums. I still can't get G4 on satelite, and that prevents me from seeing it. The other gaming shows I watch just don't cover what I play.
I play competitive games, and I follow the teams, events, and whole community. I listen to shoutcasts, and online radio stations. If I could get a television station to cover more of what I watch it would get more attention from me.
I am just like many other people, I DO NOT PLAY CONSOLE. I know there are tons of great games out there, but I play a "few" games quite alot, and I only enjoy competitive multi-player games. Those games get my time, attention, and devotion. I spend enough money on my PC, and events that I can't justify spending more money on a console that is to me boring. Thats just me though.
