    That is largely a BIOS problem. Some machines can't boot off a USB drive, nothing to do with Linux per se.

    A 500MHz will run anything, but a lightweight distribution will certainly work better. Therefore I would suggest Ubuntu.

    There was a time when I could record every show on TV on my single channel VCR...

    Recording every show on every channel won't work so well if you have Cable or Satellite TV.

    It doesn't. From my own observation it is clear that when savings time is in effect, all it does is cause people to get up later. In Canada, most shops only open at 10am or 10h30 even.

    One problem with *nix is that US and Canada time zones are intertwined. There are separate zones for Canada, but the Canada info is duplicated in the America folder for some idiotic reason. So if the time change goes ahead in the US, it will force people to fix the mess.

    Not really - Joysticks are rather common in aircraft and many moons ago GM built a Cadillac with a joystick as a test vehicle, but they found it too hard to control.

    Yeah, the US appears to be a polylingual country. There are multiple groups of monolingual people, who never talk to each other and very few multilingual people. The US is just a smaller version of Europe after all.

    Well, in most places, there are specific laws outlawing battery - even so, it seems to be done on a regular basis regardless. Anyhoo, my point was that if there is no current law applying to something, then you are in luck, since then the lawyer can go back in time and if he can find something written by Julius or Gaius Ceasar about it, he could argue that it would apply. Also, the judges seem to enjoy it when that happens, since it gives them something to perk up their day - someone is appealing to their intellect. So by going back to ancient law, you gain the court's sympathy.

    Well, the non-compete crap may very well be unenforceable in your state, espcially if there isn't an explicit law against it. How? Go and read English Law, Dutch Law, Roman Law... New York was a Dutch Colony, so Dutch law has precedence and we were all Roman/Greek at some point in time etc. That is why you need a lawyer...
