ummm for the record - I know people who bought a PS2 when they first came out for watching DVDs - DVD players werent that common (or cheap) yet, and it was an easy way to kill two birds with one $300 device.
I know where you can get all the music you want for FREE. Millions of songs. Auto-shuffle capability. Also provides news and weather. Players available for under $10. It's called "Radio"
I dont know - I remember reading some script treatments for eps. 7-9 that I thought were from Lucas. I know hes sworn to never make those movies, but I beleive the stories (Beyond Jedi) exist.
you didnt read (or grok) the whole comment. My point was that he could have left the originals ALONE, and done all of his experimenting, added scenes, etc. on a ground-up remake.
Except, Vader isnt supposed to appear until the last 5 minutes of the movie or so, so you will still need to sit through 2 and a half hours of a Vaderless Star Wars. That said, after reading some early reviews I'm looking forward to seeing this movie - especially to see how they "dovetail" it to Ep. 4. I'm sure we will all be reading about the inconsistencies, etc. on slashdot in the weeks and months to come!
Not sure how tongue in cheek your comment was, but I actually agree with it - Lucas should have left well enough alone with the much-beloved original trilogy, and just done a complete remake of eps 4-6 if he wasnt happy with them. After all, its nearly 30 years since the original Star Wars, and we are already seeing other remakes from the same era like "The Longest Yard" and "Amityville Horror"
Two weeks notice is the "industry standard" but is not required. Legally, you can quit any time without notice (if you live in an at-will employment state, which I believe most of not all are). By the same token, if you give notice that you intend to quit, your boss has the right to fire you immediately (but still has to pay any back pay he owes you and/or unused vacation time). If he DOESNT fire you, he certainly has to pay you for your time. And forcing you to find a replacement is just silly - you are under no obligation to do so!
Sure, technically, they meet the dictionary definition criteria - if you can call people that share a disease a culture - but that doesnt make it a "culture" that should be preserved at the expense of a cure.
That brings up an interesting point - some deaf people are against the use of cochlear implants, thinking that it will somehow destroy "deaf culture" . (Personally, I think that's hogwash, people with a birth defect or disease do not constitute a "culture". I wish we could wipe out the "cancer culture" and many others). I wonder if there are blind groups that feel the same way about potentially eliminating blindness?
It was mostly bloodless violence, though. Think cartoons. A mouse driving a nail through the head of a cat? (Tom and Jerry or Itchy and Scratchy, depending on your generation) Yet that is rated G - without the gore. Ships blew up etc., but we didnt see (much) in graphic detail related to the injuries. Also, in the USA sex is considered "worse" than violence with respect to ratings and what can and cannot be shown on TV and in movies. Star Wars comes across with flying colors in that regard, unless you feel an incestuous kiss on the cheek by Princess Leia to be objectionable.
IIRC, the PG-13 rating is only a SUGGESTION to parents. There is no actual restrictions that under-13 year olds need a parent with them (unlike R rated movies)
Of course, there WAS no such rating when the original trilogy was released - just G, PG, and R. That said, I don't think any of the originals would have qualfied even if there was such a rating (which lies between PG and R, for folks outide of the US)
Cheetos. You can never get rid of that unnatural, bright orange powder.

I loved Space: 1999 when it came out! Of course, I was only about 8 years old at the time.
Not to mention the comment (true or not) that no one would ever need more than 640K
yes, one day the iPod Shuffle will be able to hold millions of songs, and play them in random order. They will call that device a "radio"
I wrote a paper on the same subject when I was in 8th grade for Science Class - in 1978.
Is the sickout for the day that Star Wars premiers, or for the day AFTER everyone has already seen it?
I'm currently unemployed, so I will have no problem going opening day (at a reasonable hour)

funny - 15 years to return to the moon, when we did it the first time in 10 - over 35 years ago!
LOL since that travesty came out, it has been number one on my list of worst movies of all time.

not to worry. how many bosses do you know that actually read slashdot? That's what I thought.

LOL I remember those! Someone needs to mod parent up.
Don't forget - it is also possible to obtain a light sabre by having it handed down to you from your father (when you are old enough).
Or, as we used to say when we were kids:
G = Good
PG = Pretty Good
R = Really Good
X = Xcellent
