It should be, as long as it is not used to run, say, copied games. Microsoft and the DMCA are bastards, who don't seem to know the difference between LEGAL/ETHICAL, and ILLEGAL/UNETHICAL. I don't have an XBox personally, but if I did, I'd be hacking it.
There is a single problem withwhat everyon is saying, even the story.... I'm not sure of the definition, but is this TECHNICALLY AdWare? Isn't ADWARE usually PROGRAMS? Not simple links? I just hope there are no popups...
Inconvienience? Yeah. Does this mean I can no longer buy one copy and install it on my Windows boxes? Ok, they're not really mine, but they're my family's (who live in the same house). With product activation, now it's 5 copies of Windows, and now five copies of NAV?
See, you are suggesting that people reading slashdot actually have a life, or know how to deal with it:)

Oh well... We're doomed. But then we knew that already with all the stupid product activation stuff that Microsoft will NEVER drop (it gets them too much money).
Red Hat updates are usually fairly on time, especially for security stuff. Feature updates usually only come in the next version, but since it's free, no big problem. Windows Update seems to get updates late, from when they are first available, if you know where to look, and isn't very reliable. When I use Windows, I've had the SP1 install on XP screw up at least twice from Windows Update, so I go download the installer manually.
He lives in the UK. They drive on the other side of the road (from places like the US and Canada) and their steering wheels are on the other side of the car (from places again like the US and Canada).
... a way to use his car's steering wheel for racing games, and a way to make his windshield the TV/monitor screen. I hope when he does this, he will remember a cutoff switch, so he doesn't go barreling down the highway at 200 kph, as if he were being chased by the police, or something.

Wow. That was a long running server. I'm sure it was impressive, while it lasted.
PS: What was on that server?
Windows 98 integrated IE into its operating system (and still is to date) to eliminate competition from Netscape.
This time it'll be the oher way around: IE will have Windows integrated into it! That way, every new security bug in IE (all what, ten million of them) will make you buy a new version of Windows that you don't want or need.
... very carefully if you happen to get one of these "Athens" things. Maybe MS will do this like their OS: "We'll be nice and let you use this for the low price of [insert cost here], but you don't actually own this, so technically we can take it from you at any time we want." I'm sticking to Linux and x86 PCs because I actually OWN them!!
Look at the website counter.li.org. The longest running Linux machine has been running for over 1200 days, and you think 500 is a real long time. Some of the others are up over 600 days.

Hilary Rosen? Who's that? Or judging form some responses, what's that?

Yeah. Simply yeah. Or more of a O_O YEAH! Or maybe a Yeah =). Ah, screw it. I'll just say she looks good.
Shhhhh... We don't want them to know. Who doesn't want free subscriber powers/abilities.
Would you turn down a free magazine, that normally costs $30 a year?

Maybe use a PIII 700-1000Mhz with Linux. More than enough, for X, and almost any program you wish to use. OpenOffice.org, games, browsers, whatever.

Me too! I'm only 13, so no wonder.

Thing is, Win2000 was releases late and it had over 60,000 bugs. Worst of both worlds...
Try 2150, if they name it for the year it will finally come out.
The thing is, though, Linux bundle at least a thousand good applications, instead of at most one (as is the case with Windows) good app.

Don't most people here at least try to get a few extra MhZ out of their processors?
/.ers.
"Ohhhh!! Nice case!! Cheap too!" "Eeekk!!! FIRE!!! FIRE!!!"
I don't think this would be for most

... and a GameCube or PlayStation2 for games. Very simple. Just don't get something that is a computer, but only runs some types of software.
