I started with SuSe 7.3 Pro (you got the book, CD's, DVD etc). I now run 8.2 Pro and have found it to be better and easier. Installation is easier than Windows in my experience - but thats just my personal view.

Installation of Firefox & Plugins, Xine etc are worthwhile.

I think my only complaints when using Linux, relate to Web designers who insist on using Realplayer and Windows Media Player for Web TV, Rock Radio stations etc., Also Manufacturers, Training course providers etc who provide software that only runs on Windows. We cannot blame SuSe or any other Linux distribution for that.

At work I'm pressed into using a fairly restrictive XP PC. On a daily basis I long to get home and boot up my Linux box.

I'll say it again: "Three Cheers for SuSe".

would be a "scientific study" of the respective disolving powers of each drink. Since teeth vary, I guess we would initially need to establish, the parameters of the "average tooth" of the consumer in terms of its resistance to:

    A: Carbonic acid
    B: Phosphoric acid
    C: Sodium Benzoate
    D: Sugar activated plaque
E: Anything else in a drink including colours (colors), flavours, (flavors), preseratives etc.,

Once we establish the "average tooth", we need to obtain sufficient samples which are sufficiently similar in size, type and quality of dentyne layer.

Incidentally, we also ought to test fillings and see what happens to them. We could look for loosening due to tooth decay or the disolving of metal amalgum, (or whatever filler they use).

I'd be particularly interested in the gases liberated from metal fillings and glues/resins by the corrosive action of the acids.

While we are at it, IF these drinks are made from
domestic water, what effect does the fluoride have
on the tooth. Fluoride is added to water supplies so that poor unfortunate people who apparantly don't buy toothpaste don't have to worry about their teeth falling out.

Obituary: J Bloggs croaked on Friday due to liver failure as a result of Fluoride overdose. The Coroner did note however that the deceased had a lovely set of teeth.

While we are at it, where are MY RIGHTS? I didn't demand fluoride in the water. If you brush your teeth with toothpaste containing fluoride AND drink copious quantities of water containing Fluoride (BECAUSE SOME MF SOB DECIDED IT WAS IN YOUR BEST INTERESTS WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!) they can get stained black. Whoopee! Might as well issue black crayons. Why are polititians and tooth fairy campaigners so IGNORANT of long term health issues. They wouldn't have shares in fluoride mines perhaps now would they???!!!

Colours, sweeteners and preservatives are used to make products attractive to look at and cheap to produce. Medical help and therapy costs millions, maybe billions$. WHO PAYS IN THE END?

Early ruggedised portable computers looked a lot like this in the early 1990's but they were very expensive and had nowhere near the processing power this offers.Nevertheless, they were employed to do serious work.

As to plug in keyboards for the Zaurus, I'm not aware of any at present. I could be extremely wrong, but I don't think they'd sell that many keyboards...

I suppose you could investigate the i/o situation and figure out how to connect something up and get it to work, (some kind of port reader app?). That or figure out the keyboard matrix and grow your own port. I'm not sure if there is space in the case, (models vary), or if you're handy with a soldering iron etc...

With the new DIY port, although you would lose any warranty or guarantees of reliability, you just might be able to get one of those folding Palm keyboards to work with it.

I'm sorry to see what has been happening with RH and the experiences of some of its users. I've not tried a "proper" RH distro, however its a pity to see folk dropping Linux and going to XP on account of their experience with RH.

Perhaps I can ask them to consider SuSE Linux?

I tried Installing Linux in the late 90's and encountered problems from the beginning.

Freebie CD's based on an old "RH compatible" kernel failed - no suprise there. "Definite Linux" based on a later "RH compatable" kernel didn't wan't to compile on my machines. (Definite vanished some time back).

These were in no way valid tests of the official RH release. However, being European I decided to go for a European distro, which I figured was in the business for the long term. SuSE seemed keen to support the individual home user as well as the corporate users.

It was the purchase of SuSE 7.3 Pro that got me up and running on Linux at home. By the time 8.2 Pro arrived, YAST was making software installation much easier, especially from downloaded rpm's.

I am very happy with SuSE Linux which has after all helped to distill my interest in Linux. I have to use XP at work and always look forward to booting up my Linux box at home.

There will always be detractors of various Linux distro's. I think SuSE have been underated in the past. They continue to support the individual and the corporate user, providing a pretty good experience out of the box, while also giving the newbie Linux user confidence to take small steps towards learning by doing.

While there is plenty of scope for learning with SuSE Linux, I'm still planning to learn by trying other distro's when I can make the time.

    Three cheers for SuSE!
