simply dictate where you send your products and keep the consumer in one place, like a vat of amneotic fluid. Come to think of it, all those carbon based units churning out 100W of heat and only using less than 10% of their processing power...
I had a some preparatory course material which required Active-X on IE. Our corporate security policy prohibts the use of Active-X.
So I took the CD's home and used them with Firefox.
As far as I'm concerened, websites built soley for use by IE with Active-X enabled are asking to lose business to sites that are built to recognised standards.
I only use IE at work because I have to.
A welcome development

The cost of traditional routers has been a problem for commercial and non commercial organisations with tight budgets. Even in larger organisations with considerable routing investment there can be a real lack of routers for spares and training.
Add to this the fact that some old but worthy routers may not run the latest IOS and hence may have some unpatched vulnerability, which will not be addressed by the manufacturer, who understandably wants you to buy their latest kit.
As the CNET article points out the perceived disadvantage of this open source router software is the performance of the physical platform.
Perhaps it is the hardware implimentation that made people unsure of the Open Router project?
Perhaps a respectable router can be built more easily and for less outlay now than 5 years ago?
Ok this was years ago. I was sharing a house and one of my colleagues asked if he could borrow this PC while I was on holiday....
When I got back he said it was u/s and didn't know why. The hdd didn't boot because he had unplugged the IDE cable and put it in the wrong way around - not all cables were polarised back then.
Prior to this butchery, undertaken with a knife, no antistatic protection and zero common sense, he had found a problem occuring with the OS. So he panicked and duplicated it...
Oh yes. The parallel port gave up the ghost.
And then I found out that he'd taken out the BIOS IC to try in another computer!!!!!!
Never ever lend anyone a computer you value even remotely. The motherboard he gave me as a replacement was a faulty piece of junk.
To this day I really don't know how I managed to hold back from punching his lights out. He was very very worried for a few weeks...
Lets face it. Some folk shouldn't be let near anything electrical, mechanical or chemical.
1. Pulled an IDE cable from an active, powered up Hdd. Nasty. Managed to recover this Hdd - runs ok on Linux - albeit with reduced capacity.
2. Clicked on a "readme" file without thinking. Laptop wouldn't let me log on or use a boot disk. Virus was TSR type so had to completely power down, remove batteries and let CMOS discharge before getting access to BIOS.
After several attempts, managed to reformat Hdd with a DOS floppy. Reinstalled Toshiba supplied Windows 98, defragged and developed a healthy paranoia. Also found decent AV & FW software.
We trust that you have been enjoying the benefits of your Eartrans 5.2 implant. You will no doubt have received a message from OCS Non-industrial requesting backpayment for use of patents without permission.
We wish to assure you that we will continue to fight these claims so that you may avoid the surgery required for a firmware downgrade.

Gimp (sadomasochism) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Gimp refers to a normally male sex slave, typically dressed in black leather (or rubber) and wearing a mask of the same material. This apparel emphasises sexuality by drawing attention to the crotch and chest. Sadomasochistic practice often features in the notion of the gimp, with a partnership between gimp and dominatrix (or dominant).
No doubt the mobile co's will start encouraging people to use airtime for exchanging regular jpg updates from "live" within their colon. Then there wil be "womb with a view". Instead of belly button piercings, there will be mini view cams and the images will be broadcast via wireless and BB will be able to spy on stuff that belly buttons see.
Er wait BB = Big Brother, BB = Belly Button...
We need BBB's = Belly Button Beannies - to stop BB's spying on people...
"In the US, bank personnel still think that your mother's maiden name and your SSN are the height of security (both fixed items with the two worst properties for passwords -- known by many people and unchangeable)."
In some countries the food prepared for dogs and cats must be fit for human consumption. Some argue that in some cases it may be of a higher standard than that intended for humans. I met at least one person who ate a can of dog food when he was unemployed. Its not something he would do again out of choice but it was edible...
There have been disturbing rumours and first hand accounts from people working or visiting food processing plants.
Apparantly margarine starts of as a green cloured substance. I prefer butter myself...
There are unscrupulous bastards who buy and sell meat, especially chicken, which has been designated as unfit for human consumption.
What shall we do with them? Execute them or force them to eat the rotting carcasses they peddle as food?
As for pumping meat full of water to increase its weight - yum yum lovely succulent pieces of chicken...Meat contains water already, yet the water content in packaged meat varies from 20% to 60%.
Colours, sweeteners, stabilisers and preservatives
are all added to reduce the need for quality / expensive ingredients. Compare the labels on cans of soup at cheap, medium and premium prices.
Some people at least have problems with the ingredients in the cheaper processed foods. Theres a lot of documentation out there on the subject.
Interesting to note that Sir Norman Foster was involved in this. For more info on his work try: http://www.greatbuildings.com/architects/Norman_Fo ster.html
I like this. Its a nice idea. I must tell the manager at my local Indian Restaurant about it. With one of these and a mobile phone I could enjoy a quality meal almost anywhere - if I could speak Hindi;-)
And yes before anyone says anything I know you can type in English as well as Hindi on the Simputer but I did RTFA after all.
Hopefully the website is playing down its full potential so as not to scare off the target consumer for this product.
Not yet. Rest assured, I am planning to collect various material from BBC Scotland Comedy Unit, including Rab C Nesbitt, Naked Video, Chewin The Fat, etc etc.
You raise some interesting and valid points. Reality always seems to be a spoiler. Projects take much longer than planned or get quietly dropped whereas disasters seem to happen too fast.
International co-operation would seem to be the way to achieve space goals quicker and more cheaply - if only politics and religion wouldn't stand in the way. I do find the post space race apathy intensly disappointing, but then it does come after a remakable period of competition. Also, IMHO, global conflict is such a waste of progress.
That said, private finance seems to be working for Spaceship One. If only we could get more manpower and resources behind these ventures.
As others have said, I think we should continue to send unmanned missions to pathfind for us and maybe to do some preparatory work until man arrives there.
Ok, it may not happen. It would be a shame to have come so far just to revert back to neanderthal ambition.
As to the anti-exploration arguments, shit will always happen but I don't think that's sufficient excuse to do nothing. Stopping space travel will not stop people starving or dying from war and disease. It won't stop ignorance and it certainly won't prevent climate change and lumps of rock hitting the Earth and reducing our chances as a species. (Some might argue that would do the universe a favour but never mind).
Space travel IMHO has done more for the advancement of science and technology than decades of crap TV and gutter press for example. They make a hell of a lot of money dumbing down news, telling lies and telling folk who to vote for.
You are right. Polititians have very short term concerns. Thats much of the reason terestrial progess is so damn slow or even backwards.
Someone I know had his loudspeakers pissed on by some drunken somnambulist (sleepwalker).
Isn't using plants for speakers going to make this more likely. Cats and dogs spray plants with "scent".

Er wait...
Like a PDA you can operate while keeping your hands in your pockets...

On the contrary. You don't get modded up for saying thanks. In fact it doesn't merit mod points at all. So I did really well to get modded down ;-)
My socks!
That was a nice patch. Thanks.

that the new insignia hints at the future without explicitly including specific targets outside of our moon and Mars.
Visual representations like this can help reinforce what the mission is all about.
I think its cool.
