No doubt they asked Google first, but obviously Facebook was turned down because it would require Google to be evil. Actually, Microsoft and Facebook are a match made in heaven. At toast: may they both try to screw the other out of something newsworthy, so we can reap the lulz it will inevitably create.
That's why the recommend going to contest your tickets even if you are fully guilty - if the accusing officer does not bother to show up, you automatically get the ticket tossed.
That's not always the case. I got issued a speeding ticket in Washington over a decade ago. I was given the same advice regarding the officer needing to be present, so I went to court to contest (since I felt I was simply matching the speed of everyone else on the freeway, but was singled out). When I got to court, I was informed by the judge that the ticket (and the writeup) was the only evidence needed; the accusing officer did not have to be present. He read the ticket out loud for the court, which included the other point I was going to bring up to try to weasel my way out of the ticket: if he calibrated his radar gun before and after his shift. He had.
Luckily, the judge gave me a break and waved the ticket due to a paperwork technicality he could have kept to himself if he really wanted to.
MS has a habit of "promising" features that it doesn't know how to deliver; its useful if you want to discourage investment in potential competitors. After all, why go and develop a new fs technology if the company with a 90%+ monopoly in the OS sector is going to integrate it into their product?
And we all know how well that worked out for the boy who cried wolf.
That tactic only works for so long before companies wise up and force Microsoft to deliver their first generation product (or buy said companies out). Then a whole new set of problems arrive.:(
I recently had to fix a machine that was declared 100% clean by Spybot, Hijackthis, Windows Defender, etc. - and still kept throwing up random porn popups*. Turns out it was a virtumundo variant... the checker (forget the name) recommended by the hijackthis people could see it, but wanted money to remove it - eventually found an app that does it by doing some clever stuff and forces a bluescreen to stop it reinstalling itself (which it does in realtime.. you *can't* delete it manually). That's now in my machine fixing arsenal for the next time I see it.
I'll give you this advice for free: rename HijackThis. You'll see your Virtumundo in the O2 and O20s. In fact, that's good advice any time you want to see what's on a system. Rename it to a random name, most malware look for a specific executable name and hide themselves.
Also, you can remove Vundo manually w/o a BSOD; you just have to know a few tricks and it's not trivial. There are free tools out there that will do this automatically after you know what the load points are.
Maybe the world has exactly what it wants. It has us moving fast and hard, keeping our prices down.
Say again? Moving fast? When's Vista being released again? That's what I thought.
It gets funnier:
But after you've been competing with something for a while, it doesn't mean you can stop, but it means you kind of know what you have to do to beat the other guy.
I bet it involves chairs. Lots of chairs. And a monkey dance.
I use Shrook. It's not free, but the reason I chose it over NetNewsWire is that it does distributed checking. You can also run multiple copies on different machines and they'll keep in sync automatically.
I don't go to theaters because of "the theater experience": the kid kicking your chair, the idiot on the cellphone talking over the movie, the person who sits right in the middle and has to make you move every fifteen minutes so s/he can go to the bathroom, snackbar, etc.
I'd rather spend my money on something that doesn't raise my blood pressure.
I grew up in the Seattle area, but moved elsewhere after college... and I miss C89. I make a point of listening to it every time I visit Seattle. Sometimes I even break down and listen to it over the Interweb.
My local area has crap. I don't listen to broadcast radio anymore, and nothing like C89 exists in my market. Thank goodness for the Internet.
or IF your KVM doesn't remap the Print Scrn/SysRq key for it's own use. I recently found out that the KVMs at work do that (in the middle of a crisis), and I was none too happy. It never passes the keypress to the OS. *grumble*
I simply don't answer the phone. Why should the phone be an inconvenience to me? They eventually stop calling because I'm "never home". Every so often, one will actually leave a message on my answering machine, but that's rare and easily erased.
... who more or less ignores the phone when it rings?
My electronic secretary screens all my calls. If the caller stays on long enough to leave a message, I then make a quick decision of "do I want to interrupt what I'm doing to talk to this individual?" If the answer is no, I'll call them back when it's convenient for me.
I'll never sign up for a DNC list because I have already effectively removed myself from their lists. As far as they know, I'm never home. Ever. Eventually, they stop calling. I haven't had any non-relative ring my phone for the past two or three weeks, which is about as far back as I can remember right now.
I won't believe it until Netcraft confirms it.

Great news! I'll drink to that!

Not without a reboot. The values are set at boot time, and the specific file for Ubuntu 9.10 + Wine is /etc/sysctl.d/30-wine.conf
You could always reset it by hand if you don't want to reset by using the method described earlier.
Someone has been listening to Dethklok, I think. We're all doomed!
And we all know how well that worked out for the boy who cried wolf.

Ah. That makes more sense than my theory. When I previewed my comment, it had norel. When I posted it, the norel went away. Interesting.
Slashdot started using it earlier this week, but it's seemingly inconsistant. Some links (like yours) has it. Others don't.
I know of this because I changed my userContent.css and now half the outgoing links are crossed out.
Apparently, my link is, too. Perhaps only subscribers can have non-norel links?

Yes, but if people didn't waste time on stuff like this, would Slashdot even exist?

It is pretty cool to watch some of those guys dance, nut no matter how good any DDR player is I can't imagine they are better than this guy.
Amazing. Have you seen these? They combine both Pop'n Music and crazy freestyle dancing. Not as much button mashing, but funny to watch.

You can find more DDR videos at the website this was linked from if you so wish. Some of them are pretty amazing (at least, I was amazed).Nobody has mentioned the Star Wars phone number!
326-3827 (or even 849-1138, which is less accurate and obsure)
Geez.
They're just playing catch-up to the RIAA, the MPAA, and SCO.
That's exactly what I did, after hunting for a spare keyboard. Now I keep a keyboard tucked away in a nook for this very purpose.

Is there a scan tool that runs on something other than a Microsoft OS?
Anyone? Anyone?
Is the song "Superfly's Johnson (Suck it Down)" by the Laziest Men on Mars. If you can find a copy, it's well worth a listen.
