they decided I didn't need to be able to tell the screensaver where my directory of slideshow images was... crap like that pi55ed me right off especially when the gnomescreensaver dude told us he wasn't going to fix it... Anyway... KDE 4 came and went... and now I'm happy with LXDE on Mint... no fscking plasma desktop memory leaks anymore... I can leave myself logged in for ages on the desktop and connect to same desktop from wherever I'm currently roaming...
the killer here being the cost of the refills... £50 laser printer needs £99 black toner cartridge... and the one that comes with the printer is a demo cartridge good for no more than 50 pages... so basically you have to spend £150 to get a B&W laser printer.
Those 3,000 volunteered, that makes a huge difference.
True, they volunteered, BUT and this is a very big BUT... they were sent to their deaths on the basis of a lie that Saddam had weapons of Mass Destruction. Not only have 3000 Americans died for this lie, but millions of civilians have had their lives fucked over because of this lie and America and other western countries have been pouring billions of Dollars and Pounds and Euros down the hole to pay for the munitions etc. for this war... WHO is profiting from this LIE? Some wrinkly tossers in charge of the global arms industry. Bush's paymasters who were desperate for this war... Just think what America's and other countries deficits would be like if it hadn't happened?
These images may be a matter of public record, but isn't the tosser in breach of copyright by scraping them and putting them up on his website along with the other details? Is he just hotlinking? Who actually holds the copyright on those mugshots? Does he actually get them removed from the original Sheriff's website or does he just flag it in his database to not push it in google? So many questions not answered in the original article...
Microsoft has a steeply discounted "open licensing" program for charities through its VAR sales partners. TechSoup can still be of help to you for other software.
ah yes... anything to avoid them trying Linux... and of course, they get a tax break on the "donation" as well...
However If I wrote something in my spare time for use at work, that code is under my own copyright. This is what you seem to be failing to grasp. You are the default copyright holder of whatever you produce or write in your own time.
no you are NOT... it depends upon the terms of your employment contract... in a just world it would be so, but you are in a corporatocracy where they get to write the laws...
If it wasn't legally his to MIT or GPL in the first place, then they are perfectly within their rights as it is THEIR copyright... and they should be holding this rogue employee responsible for each and every violation of their copyright as it wasn't his to release in the first place. I'm sorry, but you have to get it in writing that the company has permitted you to release it as GPL or whatever...
That's true. He is also free to continue pushing the GPLed version that has already been released. You cannot retroactively de-GPL code.
if it was illegally GPL'd in the first place ie. the author doesn't hold the copyright in the first place as he was an employee under work for hire provisions, then the GPL does NOT apply here... I would suggest that you actually go and read it... to actually put a program out there as GPL, you have to actually be the copyright holder. If you are not actually the copyright holder, then you are in very deep doodoo...
It's a lie. "Not publishing a report" is still a lie. When you testify before congress that you are presenting facts revealed by studies and you omit anything that you want to conceal, it's perjury. "... to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth..." I'd say that's a violation of the oath they take prior to giving testimony to not at least make available ALL information collected as that fits within the "...the whole truth..." part of the swearing in.
You can only perjure yourself if you "knowingly" make a false statement under oath... I would bet that those they sent in to bat were kept in the dark about the whole state of affairs...
a true microtransaction would be a cent or penny and you wouldn't even worry about it... as far as I'm concerned, a dollar or a pound or a Euro is NOT a microtransaction...
in Restaurant City, 1 CC is currently 10 pence (1 pound GB gets you ten CC)... The currrent in game prices of items which are only available for CC make you wince... when you have to do a mental conversion to find out that 1 hard to find ingredient (of which you probably need twenty or more) is 80 pence and twenty of them would be £16.00!!! this is not a microtransaction...
IF they were to drop the in game prices to such a level where you didn't even blink at the cost, then far, far more people would be buying CC and using it...
with "natural" selection, when selecting for desired traits, you kill/destroy/neuter those with undesired traits before they can pass them on...
When you put safeties in place to prevent accidental cross breeding of GM animals/plants and wild animals/plants by making them infertile, you are accused of money grabbing and playing God. If you don't do it, then you are accused of endangering "natural" genetic populations.
It would help greatly if Hollywood and the TV studios didn't keep showing stars using cellphones etc. while driving... Seriously folks... it's JUST PLAIN STUPID... people see it done in the movies and TV and don't realise just how dangerous it is... if they are going to show it being done, then they should script in the true consequences, as a public message...
Living in Holland, I can absolutely confirm that students here do have time for that yes. The way you learn languages here is devoid of rote memorization and not the time sink you seem to think it is.
Not only that, their television networks and cinemas don't dub everything into Dutch... they merely sub it in Dutch and leave the English audio untouched... unlike the Germans... where everything foreign HAS to be dubbed into German audio... It also helps that the Dutch could easily receive TV from UK so are used to watching English language programs without subtitles... (not sure if they can receive our Freeview Digital stuff now the analog transmitters have been shut down...)
not all European chocolate is "real" chocolate... we have some of that crappy vegelate as it is derisively named made here in England, the standards were fought over quite vociferously and in the end it meets them through a "loophole" in the regulations
(13) The derogation provided for in Directive 73/241/EEC allowing the United Kingdom and Ireland to authorise the use on their territory of the name "milk chocolate" to designate "milk chocolate with high milk content" should be maintained; however, the English name "milk chocolate with high milk content" should be replaced with the name "family milk chocolate".
.
Cadbury's milk chocolate is not a high cocoa content and most Easter Egg chocolate in UK is low solids as well... and as for Hershey's... our Asda supermarkets have been selling it... (their parent company is Walmart after all)... I tried some and found only the plain bars were edible... the milk and white bars were bleuch... the texture in the mouth was disgusting...
Bill Gates developed a BASIC interpreter and dropped out of Harvard.
He didn't just drop out of Harvard... he jumped before he was kicked out... that BASIC interpreter was developed on stolen computer time and not only that, they'd been dumpster diving and used code they'd found in the bin...
"That phase of Allen's life involved taking the bus - sports coat, tie, leather briefcase and all - down to the offices of local computer gurus. âoeI would boost Bill into dumpsters and we'd get these coffee-stained texts" of computer code from behind the offices, grinned Allen."
PS... difficult to find real evidence on why he really left Harvard...
when you're up in the RADAR frequencies... it would make FAR more sense to go for the optical link... just for sheer reliability of signalling... but, this is a commercial product and the PHBs and bean counters have decided for the cheapest solution and to make the customer suffer...
but what do I know... I'm just a RADAR engineer (Electronic Warfare speciality) who got into the software design side of it doing systems analysis. I've always strived for 100% reliability as people's lives were on the line.
With IP to extort reduced tax rates and other concession, you just shift the country of ownership of the IP, takes a quick pen stroke and it's done and your tax base is screwed.
yes there was... put the chips in the card at each end... or even, deity forbid... dump the electrical wire except just for power and ground and use a fibre optic link for the data... it's NOT rocket science these days...
CLeanfeed was already being abused... ORON was being blocked allegedly because some of the images being hosted there were kiddie porn, but the entire site was being blocked... it just so happens ORON is also a weblocker type company and was hosting content other than kiddie porn... the end result of blocking it for the few items of kiddie porn was that it was also being blocked for the pirated content it was hosting... I was wondering when Rapidshare and the other weblocker firms would fall foul of Cleanfeed... after all, it wouldn't be beyong the wit of the content industry to sneakily plant kiddie porn up there and get Cleanfeed to block them as well...
he's the same guy? no wonder... that gnome-screensaver debacle turned me right off gnome
they decided I didn't need to be able to tell the screensaver where my directory of slideshow images was... crap like that pi55ed me right off especially when the gnomescreensaver dude told us he wasn't going to fix it... I'd have modded you up if /. hadn't changed the stoopid interface yet again and resulted in the moderate button going missing in action...

Where are the actual solar panels being made? Are you pi55ing money out the door to China yet again?
that is completely fscked up

read the summary AGAIN... he did NOT kiss his own son, he kissed the Kostolnik's son...
losing yet another method of gaining access to a target PC...

exactly... look at how Microsoft hides their IP in Ireland to minimise their tax bill... but uses US patent law to enforce it...
