    Also recent trials have shown that GM seeds remain viable for up to ten years after the initial sowing... so even if you've stopped using their seed on your fields, the damned things can still germinate several years later and leave you liable, or your successor (if you've cashed up and sold on) liable to IP violation charges...

    A Swedish study has found viable GM canola seed persisted for up to 10 years under European conditions, but Dr Preston said Australian research had found canola seed persisted only for 3.5 years under local conditions.

    This still presents challenges for farmers wanting to switch in and out of the GM/non-GM markets by sowing alternate crops, Dr Preston said.

    If a farmer wants to sow non-GM canola following a GM canola crop, they will need to wait up to four years to be assured of not getting GM contamination.

    note 4 years for Australian farmers, ten years for EU farmers...

    Actually, most infections on Windows machines these days rely on user stupidity. A mail with "urgent" in the subject line, coming from "lawyer" with an "invoice.pdf.exe" as attachment is often enough to make users join the happy botnet family.

    doesn't even need to exploit the hidden .exe "feature"... you can deliver a perfectly viable exploit using a carefully crafted real .pdf file...

    Vista doesn't come with much functionality in the first place... about all you can do with a Vista box (without installing third party apps) is browse the web, play some media files and edit some simple documents... Ubuntu comes with a whole shedload of apps installed by default...these were all there on the box from the git go...

    How the heck are you supposed to touch-type on something that gives you no tactile response?

    by putting a feedback mechanism in the screen to push back and give slightly when the keystroke is registered... and I'd like to note that I'm putting this idea out into the open and heaven help anyone who tries to patent the idea... because as far as I'm concerned, you can't patent the idea, merely the implementation, so someone will have their work cut out trying to come up with a mechanism to do this... and that I would consider patentable...

    I got something that activated my XP system w/o Microsoft already. It's called a crack. When I purchased my machine it came with an XP key. At some point Microsoft felt that key was no longer valid and after a call in they informed my that my key was invalidated and I was probably using a pirated version (I doubt e-Machines did that) so I'd have to pay for a new one.

    I went to Google, found what I needed and I've been happily running new installs of XP since.

    That worked really well for Microsoft didn't it?

    they don't give a toss... 1) they got your money... 2) you're not running Linux... that's all they care about...

    it's called flexi-time.... I avoid the jam coming in, and avoid the jam going home... I still put in 8 hours a day... Personally, I put quality of life above monetary compensation... I get far more time to spend with my children and grand-children...

    Even now, it's light when I get up in the morning at 06:30 but it's dark before I leave work in the evening.

    well that's what you get for working so late... if you left at a sensible time, it would still be light... Sun is currently setting just after 6 pm, so it's your own fault you're leaving work in the dark... you know, you could do what I do, start at 7:30 am and then I get to leave at 16:00... I get plenty of evening light to do things like sail my boat in the evenings... I love DST... just wish they'd bring back double summer time...
