Now that they have a bunch of game developers following them, they no longer need the easy porting feature. They prove (to some extends) that they can build a competitive gaming console, now they can change the architecture without second taughts.

Like it was previously mentionned, they will probably use the VirtualPC software to provide game compatibility with the current XBox. I bet that the new API will be backward compatibile with the current one. They will certainly not do a complete rewrite of it. So current developpers will be able to quickly go on with the new architecture.

Companies are accountable to their shareholders in relation to their SEC statements. If a company decides not to apply for any patents and file for this statement with the SEC, then the shareholder are being notified and they cannot sue management if they fail to profit because of that.

They is NO legal requirements that a company must try to do a maximum of profit. They just can't lie or hide stuff (decision) that can affect the value of their shareholder investement.

The reason you expose do not apply here. With this service you can burn the songs (up to 3 times) on a CD.

You can copy the CD all you want after that.

The law allow you to copy music for personal use but it does not prevent anyone to make it hard to copy the music.

Also with the levy, you pay the artist (author and compositor) twice, not the record company or the interpret (ie Celine Dion will be only paid once for the sale on the song but will get nothing from the collected levy).

    About #3...

I don't know what is considered harassmeent in the US, but in Canada, the misconduct must be repeated to be actually called harassment.

For example, some guy can stop a nice lady on the street and ask her if she wants to have his Big d**k in her sl*t. Even if the lady find this offeding, she would have a hard time suing for harassment. On the other hand, if the guy is asking here many time, then she is on good ground to sue (she will actually complain to the police and criminal charges will be pressed on the guy).

Note that if there is a relation of power between the two person (the guy is the lady's boss) then the first misconduct can be interpretted as harassment.

You'll see the guy rotate the window in "3D" without missing a single frame. At the same time the clip is displayed in it's window, you have a 3D icon displaying the same clip at the bottom of the screen (think Aqua zoomable icons on steroids).

For sure the whole code is not pure Java. They use Java 3D which itself sits on OpenGL (on Linux).

As for large Java application that are not slow and that do not crash, I can think of many : Eclipse, JBuilder, WebLogic, JBoss.

As of now the only people who think that big, stable, fast Java GUI apps do not exist are the people who don't see anything else beside C or C++ due to technological blindness or other reasons of having very closed mind.

  24. Re:Ask Slashdot: Have you used Extreme programming on Extreme Programming Refactored · · Score: 3, Insightful
The concept of pair programming already exist in a good team. No need to force people to work all their time in pair.

When you have a good and balanced team, pair programming will occur naturally. At some point someone is having stuck on some problem (design, bug, ...). In genral, the person will ask one of his fellow team member help to solve the problem. Natural Pair Programming! This is much more effective than having 2 persons work on the same problem (which is trivial 80% of the time).

I believe that Natural Pair Programming with mentoring and code review are a lot better than full-time pair programming. This will help junior developer get up to speed more quickly without having to have two brains waisting their time on trivial problems.

I also like the idea of the other poster saying that you can have one developer write the Unit Test while the other write the business code (you should inverse roles often though). This also benefit having two brain work on different thing while maintaining synergy and increasing the odd of catching bugs.
