Maybe if you're willing to do that, then you are getting the fair treatment from your company?
If you want to be respected and treated as a professonial, act like one. It does go around, good as well as bad.
From Wikipedia The Platinum Mach 14 IIRC, this SNL skit was from sometime in the 70's, although it's been reshown a bunch of times. I remember the voiceover being fairly simular to the text of the onion article as well.
Isn't that the topic of discussion? I'm sorry if I missed your point there, I thought you were defending the use of magnets in terms of TFA and the comment you replied to (liberal use of "free energy" in both).
That's not exactly "free energy" since you had to push the magnets together. More like converting physical energy to electrical energy. I hope your physics teacher explained that and you just weren't paying attention.
It's not even the local geek, it's Windows setup. When you install or run a mini setup (OEM's all use them) Windows setup asks for "Your name" and any other names you want, then creates user accounts. I'm not sure about the additional names, but the first name you enter is given an admin account. This is true for XP Pro, I'm not sure about Home as I've never had to really deal with it.
I recently bought a new system, not really to replace my 3 and a half year old desktop, or my almost 3 year old laptop, which both still run pretty well. I bought it to take advantage of things like PCI-E, DDR2 and SATA. Sure, it's a gaming system, but now I have a PC for Linux or a *ahem* demo of Win 2003 to broaden my skills a bit. Unlike the last time I upgraded, when the old computer just got stripped and tossed in the basement, because it was too old and slow to be useful to me.
The parent is a joke right? Should I lol? Either way, that was very difficult to read. It did not "make it as if you're smarter than you are on the internet" *shudder* I think it gave me an accurate idea of how bad sentence structure can be. Maybe that would make you seem more intelligent amongst your peers, but you may also want to take a look at who your peers are.
In my "Linux" class in college we had to install Mandrake on our very own laptops. There were quite a few blown dual boot installs that day. That was also one of the exams (final, I think) to have only a windows partition at the start and 90 minutes later have a dual booting Windows/Mandrake laptop.
It was kind of surprising to find out in my second year how many people in my class had never installed Windows, never mind any kind of Linux.
FYI, the people with Toshibas in the class had the easiest time, the HP/Compaqs and Dells, not so much.
Comments like this amaze me, they're using what at a basic level is just an interface device, like your keyboard, mouse, trackball, clickwheel, touchpad or whatever. I'm sure you're using punchcards or dip switches to enter your post here, because otherwise you might become a slave to the keyboard and mouse!
Guess what, every interface is just a way to get brain impulses from your brain to the computer (OMFG, run for the hills!) Whether my fingers happen to be in between doesn't really matter to me. If I coud put on a helmet and get a 2000% work increase, I probably would and I wouldn't consider myself any more enslaved than I already do, sitting here for 8 hours a day.
I really, really hope that I'm responding to a sarcastic post that went over my head, because otherwise it's a very scary post.
Why would different colored PSPs fight each other? Are they incompatible? Is one better than the other? Again, I don't understand why they made the decision to pit them against each other in the images.
Wouldn't it be cool if they did fight each other?
I must point this out as well, sorry:
Why did they pick humans? The humans are supposed to represent PSPs, an inate object?
I'm assuming you mean "inanimate" or possibly "inane", I read it both ways and that's probably why it caught my eye. Unless you really do think that the PSP has the in-born tendencies of an object, in which case, I deeply apologize.
When my mom got an upgrade (used) computer, I automatically installed Firefox right after the OS, just to download drivers and google while I was working on it. She'd refused to switch before, but now that I had a chance I left it set as the default and just moved it's icon to where she was used to seeing IE on the old one. Now she uses it always and loves the tabs for ebay and searching. I do get the occasional call though:
Her "This site isn't working."
Me "Maybe it only works in IE."
Her "IE is garbage, why would they make a site that only uses that?"
Me "???"
So the conversion of, lets say, the not so technically competent (she got e-mail at work about 2 years ago and not long before that would say "A typewriter is perfectly fine for what I do.") isn't impossible, it's just a matter of comfort and maybe some gentle nudges.
I never did manage to convert my ex, although that's because I refused to support her POS from Futureshop, if you don't ask me prior to purchase, don't expect to ask me after.
Slightly off-topic, but back when I used to play guitar, a guy that I knew would have to continually wipe down his strings, otherwise they would tarnish and break down over the length of a good session (2 or 3 hours.) That's the only time I've ever seen anything like that, but it wouldn't surprise me if this was the same sort of thing.
Just a side note "soldering the wires" is not exactly what needs to be done. I had this problem with mine and fixed it two days ago. There's actually a fairly good site http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid= 9&id=1331 that gives a good tutorial on getting it apart. There's also pictures of what you need to solder in the forum related to the article. All I needed to do was heat the existing solder for a second, plus put in a little additional re-enforcement of the jack itself. In the end it cost me $40 altogether, since I bought a new cordless iron and some decent solder that I didn't need. Considering Creative wants a $30 cheque just to look at it after the first 90 days and the receipt, if not gone completly, would be in the hands of my ex (a much higher price than $30 to try and get it, although not monetary) I got off lightly for a fix that took maybe 15 minutes.
IBM/Lenovo has already started doing this, the last few models (PC & Laptop) we've recieved have had Googlebar and Desktop installed on XP Pro systems.
So I guess it's "news" but not unheard of, at least for me.
And I'm not saying that the Creative that I have isn't great, I really like the sound quality, the way it navigates and the price that is better than an ipod, that was a big part of buying it.
What I don't feel good about is at 4 or 5 months in, having a player that cuts out when it's in my pocket while I'm walking around. As the post below says, I can fix it with a soldering iron, but why should I have to fix it myself? If it's not up to having a pair of headphones plugged into it (primary purpose) and being shoved in my pocket, then maybe they should replace it, that would give me a much better feeling than fixing it myself and voiding the already crappy warranty.
Maybe I'll have an even worse experience with an ipod, who knows? I won't be buying it because it's "trendy" I'll buy it because maybe it'll work the way I want it to.

I'm of the opposite opinion, the Creative Zen Micro I have has a broken headphone jack, due to bad design (Letting the headphone jack move enough to seperate from the board.) I later found out that in order to get warranty service I will have to pay labour and provide proof of purchase. This was a gift from my ex, so small chance I'll be able to get the reciept and smaller chance that the labour charged will be worth it in the long run (I want to be able to put the damn thing in my pocket, it's supposed to be portable!)
Due to those two things (bad design, crappy service) I will be putting that "labour" cost towards an Ipod and I hope that Creative stops making shoddy MP3 players.
POP mail forwarding works, you can also set up things like gmail and hotmail through BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service).
The advantage that the enterprise system has is wireless syncing of everything.
I work for a telco that recently started offering BIS and BES, we use Lotus Notes internally with our own BES server, and it seems to work really well, after the initial growing pains. We now have the ability to look up any internal e-mail or phone number on the handheld directly from the Lotus directory, it's a pretty handy feature. I don't really like the version that we initially got, the form factor feels odd to use as a phone, but the newer ones have a more "cell phone" feel.
We've also done Treo's, which are nice, but a real pain to sync with notes, BB definitly wins out there.
As for "rugged" I know one VP that drops it at least once a day, and besides a few scratches, it still works.
At least it wasn't a good movie....no....wait...now is the perfect time to take your under 2's to the movies, because there isn't anything I want to see, atm.
Ultraviolet looks like it might be ok, but it's a sure thing that if I go, even to a late showing, there will be at least 1 or 2 under 2's there.
Maybe it should be the other way round, if there's an under 2 in the same theatre, I get in free....
Our "local cinema" is a huge megaultraplex that seems to be completly full of idiots every time I go. My ex was a big one for going out to see movies, didn't really matter if they were good, we were "going out." After about a year of doing it once or twice a month (plus being a student and working almost full time hours to pay for it...bitter, maybe) I totally hate the movie theatre, I like watching the movies, I enjoy the large screen and good sound, but I completly despise the people. Between having my seat kicked (or the back of any seat in the row, since they're connected) or having to listen to people talk about unrelated crap, or my absolute favorite, the people who insist on bringing the infant to the movie, doesn't matter if it's the 11:00 showing of LOTR, bring the kid. Most of these things wouldn't bother me much if I was watching a movie in a room full of friends, but these are strangers and they don't seem to have any thought towards my enjoyment of the movie. I guess because I don't act that way, it really bugs me that others do.
Denoting race, religion, creed, country of origin, ect can be used in an offensive or derogatory way. By rights, if they were doing it to "protect people" or what have you, there should have been a ban on any word that used in conjunction with another word could be considered offensive to anyone. I'm sure that's a lot of words.
Also, there should be a filter on every e-mail sent or received by yahoo, just to make sure no one can offend anyone via e-mail. That's really the answer to world peace and harmony...remove those pesky words....
You would think people would tend to treat an xbox like a VCR, DVD player, or reciever. It's basically a component, I can't remember the last time I was watching a movie and decided to turn the DVD player over to see if it would look better in the rack. I know that would probably damage the dvd. If this is an issue with the drive being badly designed and scratching the disc while in "normal" use (not shaking or moving the console while playing) then it should be the company's responsibility, otherwise it's just people expecting the designers to protect them from themselves.
Since most theatres are owned in Canada by Famous Players, which is basically a US company, all you can really see is the latest blockbuster, plus whatever other movies the distributer bundles with that big movie (due to the crazy restrictions distributors can put on movies, for example: 1 screen showing Harry Potter = 1, 2 or even 3 screens have to show a movie from the same distrubtor.) Basically what that means is that although there's no outright ban on certain movies, if it's an independant release, it won't get shown. The exceptions seem to be movies that are expected to gross high (Fahrenheit 9/11 comes to mind)or cities with enough theatres that they can afford to show smaller films.
There's also no equivelent to NC-17 here, basically any movie that's rated NC-17 in the US gets the equivelent R or 18 or 18A rating here. Most movies rated R in the US get a 14A rating here too, unless they're ultra violent (sex and language doesn't really factor in)
