    (n)o one has complained about the RR, even when the cost per mile is about the same.

    The reasons no one has complained about your range rover are many.
    1. You can see around rangerovers.
    2. Range rovers don't look hideously ugly. Granted, I'm sure some people find the hummer attractive, to me, it looks like a chrome brick on wheels. It doens't help that most of them seem to be taxi-cab yellow
    C. Range rovers don't cost 70 thousand dollars. Buying a 70 thousand dollar truck and then using it to haul children or golfbags seems unbelievably innefficient.

    But anyway...

    I'm going to guess that UPS uses a lot of Tosiba laptops and this made business sense for them, as they now probably get lots of parts at cost.

    This is kinda like Amazon becoming a ICANN certified domain selling company.... it was cheaper for them to manage all the domains themselves then it was to go through netsol.

    Not too many years back there was a series of crimes, including at least one rape, that were committed by a man wearing a uniform. He had a badge and a car with a light bar and siren. How the hell would you be able to tell the difference?

    I've been told that when you are pulled, if you seriously doubt the authenticity of the officer, you can request that the officer bring out someone else to verify his identity. Granted, he could, in theory, just have another impersonator friend, but the odds are slim to none.

    However, I imagine, that if you were to request to do so, that there is no way in hell that you are getting out of what you were pulled for.

    While slashdotters may buy a system with no care in the world if it has backward compatibility, we're all also the same market for 500 dollar graphics cards.

    However, for parents buying systems for their kids at christmas, backward compatibility is a huge selling point. You pay 2-300 dollars just for the system, and the games are 50 bucks on top of that! Wait, I can buy PS1 games as well for under 20 dollars?

    Folks, I think we have a winner.
    Microsoft's console has continued to be the butt of bad jokes. Spending 200 dollars for a console and then another 40 just to play Halo when Halo is now available for the PC, well, it seems a bit odd.

    Sometimes, locking your system too tightly ends up locking the keys in the car. When you really need something to run, it doesn't...

    However, you have to wonder about the technician, who, after discovering that he has metaphorically locked his keys in his car (cannot patch the system he is being paid to patch), doesn't tell his boss.

    You also have to wonder about the company that would keep said people on the payroll after said incident is discovered.

    Follow this logic: While we can't make vending machines clever enough to tell the difference between real dollars and fake ones, we can make your computer smart enough to not let you do anything with money.

    Nifty, but if we all went out and did this, the price would skyrocket. Hell, if only all the people who read this story on Slashdot went out and did this, the price would skyrocket.


    Wrong. Restaurants actually have to pay companies to haul off their cooking oil. We are doing them a favor. In theory, they should actually be paying us to take it off their hands. There are tons of restaurants all across America and they all generate waste oil.

    Even if they were to charge because the demand would go up so dramatically, it would still be greatly cheaper than gas, which costs money just to make. Cooking oil waste is a byproduct.

    Having read the patent, it is for editing the content while it is still being captured. It was filed in 2001.

    IANAL, but it seems as though if you capture each song, and then edit them after the song is captured, then you have invalidated this patent.

    I didn't see this answered in the article, but are other gasoline-only autos also overrated?


    Yes. Of all of the vehicles I have owned, I have never driven one where the EPA estimate was right on. It's always off by between 1 and 3 mpg in both city and highway driving. When I shop for vehicles, I always detract a few mpg from the sticker as I know the vehicle won't actually get what it says it does.

    The EPA tests are a joke and really need to be updated.

    I am not a troll, but I'm going to venture and say, all cars. High-priced Italian sportscars are designed to work for about 2-3 years and then fall apart. Their parts are ridiculously expense (I've read how some vehicles oil changes alone are hundreds of dollars.)

    Cars like the Veyron are made to be purchased by an elite few who will drive them on rare occasions and keep them in climate controlled garages the rest of the time.

    If you've got nothing better to spend your money on, buy out the RIAA.
