An Id degree. Now that sounds intelligent, doesn't it? Although, if you think about it, Id tends to put out some of the least intelligent games. [sigh]But it's all about the buzzwords these days [/sigh]
Personally, I'd rather have a slimmed-down notebook than a PDA. Something with a Transmeta processor, a quiet fan that doesn't try to light my thigh on fire, and a combo drive. I hate the BIG notebook trend, i.e. Dell and the larger Powerbooks. I spend most of my time at my desktop anyway, that's what I *do*, so I would want a light notebook to fill the gaps in.
Most of the guys I know with a PDA use it because it's fun, which is to say they don't really use it at all, they just play with it. And how many executives buy a PDA so that they can impress people at the business meetings?
I'll wait until the HHGttG catches up to us and we all have computers in our wrists. Then I think I'll hitch on to the PDA trend.
I believe there were plenty of people putting their $0.02 in when the game was cancelled, but sadly it has not resulted in anything yet. I'm waiting for some disgruntled teenager without a life to DoS LucasArts because of this;)
Perhaps that is why Ubisoft left the game's development. The fact that the Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions recieved less praise could also have had its effect. Overall, this is a game I want to watch, but I am a little worried that it could bomb.
IE is not expected to see a major revision until Longhorn ships in 2006-2007. It is rumored that the Longhorn version will have tabbed browsing and some kind of pop-up blocking. This would probably be accomplished via the MSN toolbar, which is similar to the Google toolbar but with that *other* search engine.
But the truth is that IE has so much of the market share that revisions don't matter. People tend to use whatever came with their system, even if it is older and came with IE 5. If Microsoft didn't push the patches, quite a few people would be using these older version even now.
BTW, I'm using Firefox.
AI, Graphics and the like (SIGGRAPH for instance)...cutting edge work from Microsoft Research
So for AI, we have Microsft Bob (Clippy).
And for graphics, we have..um...Luna? (the Windows XP interface).
And for innovative products, we have the Tablet PC?
I'm sorry about the negativity, but I really don't see anthing truly innovative having come out of Microsoft in the past, and something tells me that things will remain that way for quite some time. It takes a long time for research to begin to pay off, and Microsoft is still new at that realm of computing. Oh well, $0.02.

Ah, you forgot to mention the Unix operating system, the C programming language, and all of the immense contributions surrounding those two developments alone.
Unfortunately, I don't see Microsoft pursuing research quite like Bell/AT&T Labs has. And IBM is making contributions to software (Linux) and hardware (The processor in the Mac G5) but is not going to devote research to the breadth of things AT&T has focused on.
The good news is that most of the people leaving the Labs are going into academia, so quite a few CS departments are going to be improved.
This is the supposed iPod-killer we've been hearing about for a while. Looks like Microsoft is focusing on video rather than music, since I doubt they could get something like iTunes to work (MSN Tunes? I don't think so...). Frankly, I'm not about to buy either, but there you have it.

Kudos to the rover guys, NASA has failed to produse Martian news like this since before I was born.
Call of Duty came pretty close to a dirty, gritty feel. The characters have facial stubble, the environment looks like it has suffered the abuse of a war.
Contrast with Halo or Half-Life, which were very sterile, esp. Halo.
Bullet marks and blood splatters are one thing, but the rest is harder to achieve. Lets hope Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 work on that, but I doubt they'll get the full effect to work.
This is unreal! Valve released a game! Armageddon must be upon us!
The Gimp? Photoshop? Automation of tasks? Bah.
REAL nerds use a hex editor. Using a Dvorak keyboard!
My family members somehow managed to not try and sign up for beta until after the beta test sign-ups ended. I'm starting to wonder if I'm adopted.
You mean members of his family actually think "PC Gaming" means something other than Solitaire? Can we, like, switch or something?
"Get off that computer!!!"
Check this out.
Why, what are you talking about? Half Life 2 has already been released;~)

Ah, you must have been reading Mostly Harmless. I wish they had named Sedna Rupert...

It's not as difficult as you might think, because "bullet time" is really just another name for "server lag" ;)

It will take less than 3 months for all of the tools needed to crack those .wma files to make it online.

Planets? Clustering?
The end is near! Back up your files, because I predict a monumental worm that will destroy every computer that uses Windows!

I highly suggest that you get a spam filter, or things like this will happen every time you read your e-mail.
Are Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck doing anything important right now?

TV: Reality shows, that thing where neighbors screw each other's houses up, and the one where a group of gay men play dress-up with a straight guy.
Gaming: Warcraft-type RPGs that require some deep levels of thought, FPSs that test reflexes, and..um...The Sims?
OK, so maybe games aren't perfect, but they are better than the TV that most Americans are addicted to. Give me my mouse and keyboard any day.
When you see "vinyl" in a Slashdot story and then wonder about whether the content is dirty or not.
Guess I was born too late for this story, huh?
Hey, stop giving CmdrTaco ideas, you remember how bad last years April Fools was.
