Where's a game where you're commanded to search for hiding Jewish families, arrest them, and ship them off to concentration camps? Would you? It's only a game, right? You need to do it to complete the objective. Is that all the prompting gamers need? It would be an interesting experiment anyway.

finding new ways to dismember nazis and paint your name on the wall with their blood.... that sort of thing is okay for retail sales.

But put in a game that you have to sign a document that sends children off to a nazi death camp and you'll have the motherfuckin christian coalition riding your asshole like a circus ride until your game is off the shelves and your company is bankrupt from court fees.

I feel like you just ripped up on my mental e-brake. You're completely right. This is exactly what we wanted RIAA to do.

Perhaps the only problem is the bad taste in our mouths from the overly complicated rootkit DRM measures over the past couple years. Maybe we're looking at these new solutions with those memories still fresh and it's causing us to have this knee jerk reaction. That, and steering Slashdot groupthink is like herding kittens.

Sure, well, lemme tell ya. Here in Germany we have tits on COMMERCIALS and teens aren't walking around carrying infants all over the place. America's close-minded bullshit is what causes your teens to get pregnant. Not sex on tv. Tell a teenager not to do something, and they'll see that you fucked up your life and so why should they listen to you? And then they'll go do whatever they think feels right at the time, and completely ignore you. America's attitude about all this shit is ridiculous.

  23. What a joke... on Microsoft, Google Battle Over Energy Efficiency · · Score: 1

I recently had a back-and-forth over on the Windows 7 development blog regarding Microsoft's comments on encouraging their users to put their computers in standby mode rather than shutting down the entire computer. Apparently the startup time from standby is worth the extra power saved over hibernating. Some other people on the blog said that computers use "only" 1 watt now in standby. I said sure, that's great. Now multiply that by the hundreds of thousands of computers in homes around america. If only a fraction of those computers were in standby mode at any moment rather than hibernation, they would be using tens of thousands of watts of energy that would otherwise be responsibly saved. So I've a hard time imagining that MS is really pushing for any sort of true "green" balance.
