If 'trespass' was brought up for entering a computer about any other thing in the world except spamming your comment would probably be supported more. Tresspass on a computer is a slippery slope precedent to be setting in any case IMHO. (Unless of course we can use it against the RIAA too:)
That place looks like a prime target for those of the trolling variety. Desperate people seeking instant help are people who would more likely than not fall victim to downloading a 'patch' from people with either mischievous or malicious reasons.
I don't know why, but there seems to be the mindset these days of some new "Right to make a profit". A bit offtopic, but you see the same kind of attitude from the **AA and the like. I understand that you need to make sound business decisions, and making a profit is a business's entire purpose, but those with shakey business models always like to point the finger at everybody else, because they're not getting theirs and it can't be their fault!
Resident Evil was the best video game movie I've ever seen. But don't get me wrong, I'm still waiting for the Mario Bros. sequel they alluded to at the end of the first one.
Which doesn't contain the answer to my question of why they were taking photos of his daughter. But such is the slashdot; ask a question, get GIYF as your answer. I wasn't asking anyone to do research into it, just a simple question if anyone knew off hand. But thanks for the link:).
So I have the blog link in context: Who is Adam Curry and why is a tabloid publishing photos about his daughter? Besides the obvious answer that tabloids are usually scum.
At that level of wealth tax breaks don't even begin to cut it. One word: Legacy. The Gates' think they can solve world hunger (as per the Time article a while back), and Bill isn't some flakey actor with rich, white guilt syndrome. He's probably the kind of guy that won't even attempt it unless he pulled out a spread sheet, ran some numbers, and thought it was feasible.
Love him or hate him, for better or worse he had a guiding hand in the future of humanity, and he wants to do it again. For the record, Jobs is a joke and I would rather be comparing his humanitarian contribution with Torvolds' (without the flames, trolls, and M$'s). Gates has the potential to become a better contributer to humanity as a whole than Torvolds, but at this moment my vote lies with Linus.
Everyone does what is in their best interest every time they make a decision.
That is a matter of opinion. I'm going to assume were taking out the most irrational of people here, but that still leaves us with people who commit suicide, use drugs, and have vices that they will sacrifice more for so that in the end they net in the negative. They might think that it is in their best interest at that moment but it doesn't make it the best choice.
There is no way we can destroy society or the environment so badly that no one can survive.
I know that the answer to this is going to be 'it's a result of government' but that doesn't make it less wrong. Three words: Thermal Nuclear War.
Everything I see government doing helps a few (cartel cronies) at the expense of the many. My society is my family, my friends, my customers, and my suppliers. That's all I care about.
All I see you doing is helping a few people out at the expense of many, who says you wouldn't do the exact same thing.
You make good arguments but the fatal flaw in all governing systems be they democratic or self, is the marriage of stupid people with selfish manipulating people.
This entire essay is bunk; every paragraph the author brings up a point that can quickly be refuted. He overgeneralizes issues and adds a big dollup of emotional appeal to make his points. And frankly, his points are just misguided, if not straight out wrong.
Too bad Yahoo! already integrates paid links into the search without labeling them as such. *Sigh* Looks like I'm switching my home page to MS or maybe http://www.scroogle.org/
The guy might be a hypocrite, but he does have a nice quick proxy to the Google search engine.

Bullshit,
There was a very small segmant of the population that knew about Napster, before Metalica stepped in and made it headline news. That was where they could've nipped it in the bud and realized right then and there that the jig was up and everyone knew how much their widely available, non-tangible, forced scarcity media was really worth in economic terms.
If there was a legal way to download songs at a nickle or 50 cents (a dollar is still too much for a song to me) back then, then the societal acceptance of free downloads would have never come into play. And people would associate it more with shop lifting.
Also how (not to be snoody, really asking this) does the Recording Industry Association of AMERICA have any say in Chineese law.
One more thing, if these guys hadn't tried to shut down K++ lite, then maybe I would feel some pity for them, but it's clear all Sharmen wanted out of this was a way to make a lot of money off with a tool designed to rip off of other people's copyrights while enforcing their own like it means more than everybody else's. Fuck them.
There are only so many hardware providers. What happens when they all carry it?
Simple economics, if geeks go around saying TPM is bad, just like whats being done to DRM, four legs good, two legs bad Joe Nobody is going to think non-TPM hardware is more valuable, thus creates demand and a market for it. Since there is unclaimed market share its very likely somebody will then start producing it to meet that demand.
Said again and again everywhere ad nauseum:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...."
You can freely exercise you're religion as much as you want, but I will not have my tax money be used to call it science in government funded public schools. That is in essence establishing it as government paid for, approved, endorsed, established Truth. The only truths the government should be teaching are truths backed up by current scientific research. I have no problem in dealing with religion in a classroom setting, as long as its not a science classroom.
I also pitty the person suing the website. It's a College for pete sakes, and if they respected the previous clause they should also respect what comes after it as just as important:
"...;or abridging the freedom of speech"
Psychopathy isn't exactly common you know.
Some would disagree and belive them to be as common as schizophrenics.
I'm going to vote for Kodos, I just don't trust that Kang fellow and I'm certainly not going to throw my vote away on some third party.
No, no violence is fine on the right (gun laws). It's all that dirty *shudder* sex stuff.

Yeah, really. Why use Notepad when you got Wordpad right there.
