Just in case dudes like you accused me of "karma whoring" I have disabled my Karma Bonus on all of my mirror posts (from my shoddy understanding of the slashdot moderation system that means not only does it not start out at 2, but the moderation of said comments doesnt affect my karma). Also the mirror thing isnt getting boring , its actually getting more interesting, (namely I'm now going to go do some performance tunning to see if I can get it to handle more...) Hava a nice day:-)
Well the reason why I cant post mirrors for every article is that sometimes their slashdotted by the time I get around to running wget -p That being said I use a template for my posts, but since you seem to really dislike "Hi their" I have gotten rid of that from the template:-)
I'll admit the first link is a tad bit OT , but the other to are taken directly from the story! Either there is some massive conspiracy sending me false slashdot headlines, or you have been takeing a bit to much in the way of drugs.... You are the troll.... Now I shall *shake my fist* and hope you go back to your hole.
Where is the spyware? I think it is you that are the troll. Although with that being said I'm using a real browser (mozilla) so if their is spyware I'm probably not seeing it. I didnt put any one my self so if you can point it out to me I would like to get rid of it.
Totally of base man. I know a good size of goverment contractors use linux and so do goverment installations. 1. No one really think that 2. You can still hire all your friends as consultants 3. LinuXcare , RHE, etc. 4. not true , goverment does like linux
Well I have some so called Empirical "evidence" of my own. I have never had to recompile a kernel for audio drivers and the soundcard has in every system that I have set it up and used it on worked out of the box (that would only be 3 mind you , but given the sample used by "informationweek" I think that it holds its own).... If only "evidence" was so easy.....
Or you have specaility SCSI hardware which is only supported by patching your kernel and re-compiling (and the patch fales against the latest version and requires a bit of futzing). Thats what you get for buying a SCSI card with tux on the box and assuming it would work... Also if you want to do any UML stuff you probably need to recompile your kernel for/proc/mm support... I also had to recompile my kernel to support agpart to work with my cheapass laptop video card. I'm sure their are many other situations where a normal person would want to recompile their kernel; those are the only ones that I have come accross which you didnt mention. As for a "modest" performance increase compiling in a certain patch can improve UML performance in the 30% area (hardly modest in my books).
I have actually seen a lot of these sort of things on scriptlance . They tend to be labelled as "fake hits" and whenever I ask them why they want the software they want it to "test" their banner exchange or something similar....
I actually did some work on a system likes this not to long ago. The problem is since most of the scientific journals, etc. are walled gardens (IE you have to pay to access or be a member of university XYZ) it can get very complicated to actually get something like that to work.
I tried that once Now I highered a lawyer (just jokeing) Small companies tend to innovate because they cant affored the legal mussle required for the sueing phase of business:-)
Its allready done in Canada (at least in the province of ontario). With that being said I specifically applied to computerscience rather than software engineering for precisely those reasons you mention (I dont want to write mission critical code on which lives depend , I want to write cool code that does neet things and the enduser doesnt get mad/die so long as it works most of the time).
So what ? We are working for free . If you want feature XYZ or documention on how to use XYQ then pay me. I will do what I want to do unless some one pays me some money. OO writers are , for the most part volunteers , you cant ask some one, reasonably, to write documentation for free when all they wanted to do was build a cool app that did something interesting. If you want a nice GUI or documentation for over the money.
Just in case the server crashes and burns (like they usually do),I have put up a mirror.
