Same here in Canada. I also read somewhere (so dont hold me to it) that placing a 911 call on microcells network booted of non-911 calls if there werent any spare channels.
every self respecting geek out there wants full root access on a powerfull machine on a fat internet connection. Not to self promote or any thing *cough*look at sig*cough*.
More seriously,I dont know if its booked but if your B.F. reads megatokyo why not buy a days advertising on megatokyo.com (on valentines day) to say how much you love him ? If I had a GF and she did that.......
Bandwith can get really dam cheap. $30/mb (capped) on 100M commits. This means a cheap ISP could set up two/three of these (to cover a certain area) and still be well within the currently accepted overselling standards for end user internet connections (lets be honest , how often would you burst 10MBs if you had data transfer billed per $1/GB month?) Then when the ISP needs to add more capcity (say everyone goes full out) they can add public peering relatively cheaply. Profit , without the ????
Indeed I do. That being said we run (primarly , excluding 2) american servers so our prices are on par with the midrange american hosting prices (and our VPS prices are rock bottom when compared to mid range american companies).
Thats why I got an IBM "bumps and brusies warranty" I drop the thing , spill coffee on it (which has happend with every single previous laptop I have had) and they still cover the replacement.
There are many many dail up ISPs. Its gotten to the point where just about everyone and there uncle is reselling dail up (like us http://isp.pigscanfly.ca ). That being said there arent a whole heck of a loat of national dailup ISPs but thanks to romaing agreements you still have fairly good choice.
As a matter of fact its a wonderful idea. Have an open connection that any one can plug into , anything does happen (read RIAA file sharing nazis) "it wasnt me . It was any one of a number of people with in a 450 feet radius of my house . Unless they were using a special antenna then it could be a couple of miles". Defense in a bottle:-) Drink once. Repeat.
Care to list some of those benefits? I here a lot of people talk about Java as cross platform. Unfortunitly Java as cross platform sucks , different JDKS fuck up different things and you have to write work arounds fairly often . Sort of like cross platform C eh?
Cost for bandwith (in canada and I understand it is more expensive) measured 95% goes as low as $50 , and as high as $1k (for bell). You can get low commits (1m to 10m) on a 100m burst line for ~$150 All prices in canadian dollars.
Indeed . I find my self agreeing with you very much. Many tech firms try and be the next big Microsoft by offering a whole range of products . Find an area at which you are good at , there arent a lot of competitors and focus in on that area.
Indeed. I ended up getting a desktop processor in my laptop (sure I only have 1.5 hours off grid life) but it was a hell of a lot cheaper ($200) for better performance (comparable performance would have been $400+).
Its not very hard to decompress cloop images . Hell a 233 machine with 128mb ram can do a decent job (I wrote some netcaffee software to run on a specific platform , enduded using a compressed fs so that all the tools would fit on a 50mb card sized cd).

Unversity of Ottawa recently met the requirements and is now graduating "Software Engineers" :-)

Canada is fairly diverse (more so than the US).
Indeed I do .

Hosting in canada is actually more expensive than hosting in the US . :-)
Just a little FYI
here here . :-)
Much better to have a tuffer time at the start and be able to do everything easily from there on in .
