35mm photographers use mostly either Nikon or Cannon. There is an ongoing flamewar between them. But I really like Nikons better. However, Canons can be had quite cheaply on the low end, though the plastic lens mounts will restrict lens use in the future. Go to a camera store, and try out both Nikons and Cannons. Go with what feel more natural to you.
Cellphones are slowly becoming cheap enough to not call them "luxury devices". Also, I can think of at least nine times when a Cell Phone came in handy when I became seperated from my group at large venues (concerts, ballgames, hospital, mall), and when I have used it to get directions by calling someone at home.
Yeah, if an ER doctor missed a call to come back to the hospital and apply his skills, I know I would feel really bad about it. And the doctor might even get sued, given our current legal climate.
Microsoft has released a drink-mixing package for Windows compatible machines. It cards you every time you try to use it, and calls the cops if it determines you are underage. It only works half the time, and often gets set back by viruses, but you don't need to $699 to SCO to license it.
It's probably not classified officially. A lot of stuff is merely classified through obscurity. i got a lot of books from my dad in the military about certain topics that were unclassified, but said in the liner of the book (Roughly Summarized): Not for distribution to non-military.
Basically, it's not classified, but they kinda treat it as such.
Dell puts some applications that contain spyware as part of the standard deal you get from them. Removing it might make those programs not work, and thus the customers would be mad.
Or, they want the average user's computer to become so fucked up by spyware that it FORCES them to upgrade.
" and therefore only 'approved' (read: microsoft, and perhaps -perhaps- apple) operating systems will have access to the internet."
I hope that Apple is left out of the loop, because they are a multi-billion dollar company, and can afford to sue the pants off people in order destroy any system that tries to leave them out, and in doing so, will also benefit OSS.
We train our kids to patriotic and believe in the "right" god, compared to other nations teaching their children to be terrorists and be in wierd cults.
It's all a matter of point of view. We in America think we're right. You think you're right. Calling names isn't going to solve anything.
"It's a poor example, though, since drunk driving is a crime against society (ie, you can be arrested and tried in criminal court), whereas downloading britney spears' latest and greatest is a civil offense (not to mention bad taste in music)."
I agree. When has a filesharer killed a family of four trying to download the newest Metallica? Don't believe the RIAA when they say: "Every time you steal music, God kills a kitten." either. The worst kind of stealing I could even think to relate to P2P is "borrowing" someones pen (a cheap one), and forgetting to bring it back.
She is a Jazz pianist who actualy has some pretty good songs. She is quite talented, and is not really a mainstream-style artist. And here you guys are, talking like shes a Brittney clone. Google is your friend.
Actually, I OWN my truck and am 17. My fathers name appears nowhere on the registration. I do have my insurance through him, but could get it myself (for more $).
"The job of the government is to provide whatever we, the people, want it to provide."
I respectfully disagree. The purpose of any legitimate government is to secure the rights of its citizens.
Yeah, I look down upon the rice boys who take whatever car their mommy and daddy gave them and put rims on it and go home satisfied too. However, true modders, of cars or computers actually put a great deal of time into their creations, and I have respect for them. My case right now has the lighted fans and stuff, but thats just for fun, and I don't go around bragging how 1337 my case is. IMO, it is shitty, because I didn't put that much time or effort into making it look that way.
". However, if there are reams of logs that correspond tightly with the alleged hackers unusual hours, multiple machines/installations, or there's a tap on his computer (showing that there's not a simultaneous inbound connection that might be pulling the strings so to speak during activities that really require a human operator) then that sort of evidence can be used to paint a much more convincing picture imho."
Thats' the beauty of the plan! You say : "Logs? How can a tree fit in my computer?"
But remember that Linux only has a very small market-share (5%). Also, remember that open-source zealots who browse slashdot all day are not representative of the Population value of all people who might buy a video card.
My friend works at McDonalds, and he stole like 100 of those labels, wnet to Best Buy, and bought a lot of CD's with that. And he has a binder full of coupons redeemable for free food. My idea was to put out a box for people who don't want their $1 things, and collect like 1000 or so, and get an iBook.

The easiest job in the world?
Weatherman in San Diego, California.

"We don't support it, but yes the weather IS quite nice in Sri Lanka"
You know, that kind of response.

Imagine a beowulf cluster of gigapixel images!
I caught it too. That is a pretty funny way to describe stunts corporations pull.

"I would much rather see Doom 3 and Half Life 2 be released as polished accomplishments, not as graphic effect demos."
So you mean, not like Xbox games?

Windows XP automatically logs onto access points for you, so you could use the excuse that the AP hacked you, and you aren't even in Soviet Russia!
They used this argument in a book on Wireless Security I got.
Fortunately, my custody situation is shaky, and if my mom tried to sell my truck, my dad would block it out of spite, and visa versa.

"Interestingly, Microsoft's representative in Brazil decries this as a movement away from freedom and choice..."
I think the word they were searching for was "Ironically".

Apple denies it like rumors of G5's and updated Powerbooks. Could that mean my precious G5 PB is coming?
