My formatting was fucked up, but Ill repost without the Mirror, since everyone else posted the mirror:
The server is already slashdotted, but I think this is major if it is true. Microsoft's legal dept is probably planning an all-nighter tonight, and will be working in shifts to frantically sue people who are connected in any way with this.
If this is true, the shit will definitely hit the fan. I wonder how this was done. The IP contained in Win2k/NT is worth BILLIONS(arguably). They obviously would have some serious security on it.
On a lighter note: When will we see some tricked out Windows 2000 "Distros"?,Could this potentially help the WINE Project?, Is anyone working on replacing IE with Konquerer?, Will this be able to help the effort to make driver "wrappers"?

Here is a Mirror Though, just so you can RTFA. I could barely get through even before it was "published":
"Neowin has learned of shocking and potentially devastating news. It would appear that two packages are circulating on the internet, one being the source code to Windows 2000, and the other being the source code to Windows NT. At this time, it is hard to establish whether or not full code has leaked, and this will undoubtedly remain the situation until an attempt is made to compile them. Microsoft are currently unavailable for comment surrounding this leak so we have no official response from them at the time of writing.
This leak is a shock not only to Neowin, but to the wider IT industry. The ramifications of this leak are far reaching and devastating. This reporter does not wish to be sensationalist, but the number of industries and critical systems that are based around these technologies that could be damaged by new exploits found in this source code is something that doesn't bare thinking about.
We ask that for the wider benefit of the IT community that members and readers support Microsoft by forwarding anything they know about the leak to the Microsoft's Anti-Piracy department."

Does this mean that we may be able to overclack without regard to temperature? Will optical technology make the processors run cool? I really hope so.
This is pretty stupid, and not worth a /. article.

Enderle's Ferrari Laptop

· Score: 5, Insightful
This laptop doesn't seem like it is that good aside from the paint job. IMHO, the Ferrari products that carried the Ferrari name, but were manufactured by someone else just seem tacky and sucky. This joins the Ferrari mountain bike in my mind as a sucky marketing ploy. Fortunately, the Article mentions how this is mainly designed to appeal to PHB's who think that because a company is good (or arguably the best) at making cars, the laptop bearing their name is good, or arguably the best.
Yeah, you'll much prefer upgrading your PC every 2 years, or constantly as in my case. I would rather have a computer that required $129 a year in software, than $400 in hardware upgrades every 2 years. And face it, you can pirate Panther if it is that big of a deal. You can't download a 9800 off of Kazaa however.
"Q: How many codes can I enter?
A: You can enter up to ten unique codes per day, not to exceed 200 unique codes over the duration of the Pepsi iTunes Music Promotion."
These people may encounter a problem with this rule.
I don't think this campaign of theirs will work out. If only %10-%20 percent of people are going to redeem their caps on iTunes, even less are going to go through the hassle of mailing bottlecaps to someone. I bet they'll get maybe 1000 caps.
As for me, im going to the store to see if they started the iTunes promotion, and if they have, I will be buying a few cases of Pepsi.
I don't know what is up with this guy. His logic board gets fried, so he says that he can't stand hardware lock-in. It seems like just a rant, and doesn't really make sense.
if he didn't like the hardware, he should have just sold the iBook on Ebay, instead of just keeping it. Running Linux won't fix the logic board, and he will be back to having the same problems that he had with his Dell(No Linux Compatibility with Linksys Wireless card.)
I think though that to get work done, you need an effective GUI. Humans are NOT designed to work from a command line. A good visual representation of data goes a long way. Example: I could give you a spreadsheet with a sequential listing of server utilization of memory. If you looked at the data alone, you would not see any trends without going over the data very quickly. If I handed you a graph, you would instantly see what is going on with memory usage. I HATE command line, and like a well designed GUI.
I RTFA, but I don't see how what the RIAA did is copyright infringement. Putting fake files on a network is not copyright infringement, it just decreases the S/N ratio.
Yeah, I do some survival stuff. My rule that I tell anyone who will listen, regardless of whether they are in a survival situation, is : Always keep your torso warm!
Doing this helps prevent shivering, which saps EVEN MORE energy from you. It also helps protect from hypothermia by insulating the core, and not the extremities. Having your core temperature drop is WAY worse than having cold hands!
Thank you sir, you saved me the effort of typing out a post like yours. I remember when my dad first taught me to shoot at 13 (Im 17 now). I thought it would be like videogames. How wrong I was.
I learned that a scope only makes shooting more difficult. It does not make it possible to knock quarters at 100 yards (without practice, that is). Iron sights own, espescially if you are one of those freaks who does that 1000yards/iron sights tournament in Ohio.
I learned that outside of point blank range, firing a pistol/smg quickly will do nothing but hit air. 4 years later, and I finally got as good as my dad at pistol shooting at 25 yards. That's how long it takes before you really start learning.
Unfortunately, a parsec is a unit of distance, specifically the distance at which our sun would appear to be 1 arcsecond, which is approximately 3.3 lightyears.
From what I hear on the boards, the "Blck Knight service" will be like a online backup for all of the stuff on your Phantom. It backs up your savegames and stuff like that.
You can play single-player games without broadband, but the experience is enhanced through broadband with multiplayer, mods, add-ons, etc.

It kind of was in public, since it was just set up and everyone was playing it. It was not really a demo in the true sense of the word. It was a par6ty hosted for press who wanted to see the phantom in action.
" Why would someone go to such elaborate measures and great expense(putting together a prototype, sending exhibitors to CES, et al.) just to fool... whom? If it *isn't* a hoax, how can they possibly compete against heavy hitters like MS and Sony? I don't get it, what's it all about?"
Well the Phantom really isn't a console. It's just a broadband device that will be offered in conjunction with the broadband providers (Comcast being one that I can remember at the moment). You download games, movies, music, etc. through the Phantom, and play them back on the Phantom too. In addition, it might have PVR functions too!

Conflict of Interest?
Seriously, it's like hiring Janet Jackson to chair a senate subcommittee on decency in public broadcasting!
I know that. My 466 Celeron runs XP smoother than 98.

No, I was talking about the people who want all of the codes for the promotion.
According to the rules of the program:
"Q: How many codes can I enter?
A: You can enter up to ten unique codes per day, not to exceed 200 unique codes over the duration of the Pepsi iTunes Music Promotion."

If you could get it to work on a PDA, how much harder could it be to get it to work on a PC?
So is this "center" in DC?
It would really be: We have to find him in four hours because he'll overheat in that suit without someone to get him out!

Given that Mandrake is roughly 1.8 gigs (1800MB), it would cost him $360 to download Linux. That is more than a license for Windows XP Pro.
