    Likewise. Jumped in at the deep end with some guidance from a friend who was definitely a militant linux-ist. Switched to Gentoo after a couple of years for the package and dependency management, and have used it ever since. But Slackware was where it all started for me.

    Well for those of us living in countries with effective, modern health systems, payment isn't an issue, as you can get all the legitimate treatment you need on the public health system. ie. Free.

  3. I couldn't see any mention in the article, but I'm guessing the stated range is when it isn't loaded, or only very lightly loaded. I wonder how much that would drop when pulling 120 tonnes in 3 trailers? That's a pretty standard configuration here in Australia.

    I believe the current idea is that the upper decks tore apart, but the bow and stern remained connected by the keel. It was only during the descent that the twisting between the two halves finally tore the much stronger keel apart fully.

    Species are generally considered to be separate if they can't breed to create FERTILE offspring. Lots of closely-related species can breed, but the offspring are usually sterile.

    Different peak and off-peak data caps have been pretty much standard on broadband connections here in Australia ever since ADSL was first released in 2000. As an example, I'm currently on fibre with a 100Mbps plan, with 1TB peak (6am-1am) and unlimited off-peak (1am-6am) data. And that is definitely well above average usage here. Most ordinary home users on ADSL with have something more like 100GB a month, with average download speeds of 6.9Mbps according to 2014 figures.

    Was that the Nurburgring by any chance? I know they use M5's for their ring taxis. And the supercars are just for public events and raising support and money for charity. Not police work.

    If you read the article you'll see that the cars are supplied by the manufacturers at no cost. The police departments just pay for fuel.

    You won't. But his picture WILL be there.

    Yes, but if a program is generating every possible 100x100 image to brute force an image containing his face, it doesn't know what it's outputting. You'd have to run the output images through a facial recognition system to erase whatever in the image wasn't a face. But it would still have to process the 4.478 PB of produced images.

    Update... As a bmp that's 30054 bytes per image (in MS Paint anyway), for a total of 4.478 petabytes of data. So pretty big. :P

    In 24-bit colour, for a 100x100 pixel image, there are just shy of 16.8 billion possible images. Definitely brute-forceable. :P

    I'm no expert, but from what I've seen about volcanoes in general, they contain a lot of dissolved gases kept in solution by the pressure. Release the pressure, and the gas comes out of solution, causing an explosive eruption. Just like carbonation in soft drink that has been shaken. Open the bottle and release the pressure, and the gas rapidly escapes, bringing the drink with it.

    Personally, if it was a choice between not working and still seeing my colleagues, I'd choose not working. I don't like my colleagues THAT much. It's not like I'd ever be short of friends (or women) if I had that sort of money. It's a good trade.
