pretty much covers a lot of the ground these days. sure, you may have to shell out a whopping $20 for an annula licesning fee, but it's worth it. with OSS, you get a nice graphical configuration window, that even allows for things like manual or automated Sound Starting at boot.
it's really time to blame the manufaturers for this problem. if the can't adhere to a standard in manufacturing and have to re-invent the wheel every time they produce a piece of hardware, then the hardware companies should be the ones carrying the bad rap.
as far as comparing any Linux distro to windows 95, HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHHHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA. OMG GOOD ONE!!! nice troll! maybe redhat 5.1 or earlier....
a recent diary at k5 pointed to the fact that a Brand Newbian Windows XP Pro boxed version of this 'super software' would not recognize his old video card, which was previeously recognized by win98. go figure.
people will expect things to 'just work'. email, spreadsheet, document editing, and other office functions are all well covered on the desktop.
it's the little things that will get people turned off fast: like browser plugin integration, javascript issues, etc. even though MozillaFirebird(rip), and the like, are great for allowing instant plugin installation, there is yet a large hole for media plugin usage considering all of the formats that microsoft and mac have floating around. this is a current limitation, imo. not necessarily a negative on the linux part, but an obstacle created by microsoft and other companies that continues get in the way of total success. that's potentially a major issue and a lot to overcome. i think it's possible to break the stigma regarding linux on teh desktop. it's come miles in the last few years. on the path it follows now, it will over come the general fear that it just doesn't do what windows can. because it can. time has brough a lot of things closer to completion. hardware compatibilty is no longer an issue if you are running current distributions and licensing is an age old argument but if you're in to function for a small fee then why not?
personally, i'm waiting for the linux desktop that comes loaded with enlightenment (absolutely manadatory!), and all things audio editing, and every funky/odd thing that was available in the rh7.3 stage of development. then i will be satisfied.
The Peoria Chapter of the Astronomical Soceity got a bunch of kids together via school groups and constructed the same thing in 1993. It stretched out all over the city of Peoria, IL.

=is that no one has really posted any links to the images inquestion in order to provide any sort of balance to this argument. There are more images available of a
"city"-like formation a few miles from the city. There's been math done to calculate orientation of the objects in question in relation to each other. Investigate this. don't write it off. Those in control of the flow of information are just afraid of letting every one else know what they may not be ready to know.
After we have all (I assume that doesn't include any creationsists) adhered to the scientific theory of The Big Bang and the beginning of the Universe as we know it, I can only think that we can begin to accept the fate of the Universe.
As dark matter destabalizes, essentially matter is pulled apart at the atomic level. Some thing tells me The Big Rip, is what we are in for.
The universal constant is a nice theory and would be the better, happily-ever-after option, but in reality it seems a little far fetched if the expansion of the Universe is accelerating. It means that eventually speed will over come matter and every thing disintegrate and get ripped apart.
Don't we have a huge self-contained, furnished, International Room With a View in orbit already? Why don't they plan to just build on to that and add at least a recroom. Ping pong in 0g.
It would be a great way to ease the tension of this whole nuke issue.
I play large guage strings on my Les Paul..80 on the 6th pos. down to a.17 on the 1st. that's twice as large as the normal set of starings. tuned to open Bb. (Bb F Bb Eb Bb Eb) Great barritone resonance. different chord structures and all.
I am wondering how the strings would fit in this thing and if it could intonated to match.
I was really hoping for a price without having to call them.... hmmm.
from BBC: "The US space agency has confirmed it will not send another shuttle to upgrade the space telescope, which probably means Hubble has no more than three years of full observations ahead of it."
What will be the replacement? Perhaps a little Slashdot investigative journalism would lead us to an answer.
they were talking today about the plan to leave the crater with Opportunity. They think they may have two options for a clear path out of it.
I am rather interested in the rock formations we see below several layers of surface dirt/sand/what mars is covered in (rusted/oxidized iron particles).
when bosses or managing directors with power percenatges of ownership, hire friends with no experience to fill positions, and release qualified, validated personel. Although probably an isolated practice, having witnessed it, I am amazed that it's even legal.

in short, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA.
How would you like it if a big asteroid came along and knocked your planet off it's axis?

it's all a corporate powerplay. ms and sco need to get over themselves and get back to the task at hand. computing.
by selling the domain name back to the Nursery, or another Lucas Nursery, for that matter. :/
hopefully, they'd give her a little more for the domain considering the hassle it has been for her to go up against the company and the legal system.
