Oh Grasshopper... I am disappointed. This isn't about what is legal or not. This is about intimidation and abuse of power. Most of the tactics the MPAA have employed were legally dubious. They know that they can scare the ISP into action. They can extort a couple grand out of you (or your parent) because you can not afford to combat them.
And short on ethics. We are advised one way to get a copy for testing is via warez. But we are also told not to use them for cracking so I guess it is okay.
I think there is a third reason. The authorities have the public so fearful of the shadowy hacker, that they may fear that if the code is released the hackers will find some way to exploit it.
I think it is akin to me asking you what kind of car should I get. Surely you don't think yourself so all knowing as to tell me to go out and buy X. But then perhaps you do.
I am fairly new to Slackware (c. 2001), but have never experienced a bug like this. Patrick Volkerding is usually pretty diligent in testing his packages prior to putting them into the patches.
You must not be that knowledgeable about installing software on Linux then. Most any major software package is going to have both.rpm or.deb packages available either on their own site or in the distro specific repositories. That will cover most of the distros out there. For the rest of us that have chosen other paths (Slackware for one), the source package will be available where we can build the package ourself. The one exception we sometimes run across is proprietary programs but since he was talking about F/OSS programs, I assume we can rule those out.
Let me make a disclaimer first. I don't think government has any business getting involved in this at all. Having said that, how can you compare someone watching a 90 minute movie a couple times to the hundreds of hours that a lot of these kids spend playing a video game...
This answer shows why the question is nonsensical on its face. No one can tell you what distro is best for you. Everyone has a different personality. For me, Slackware is the ideal distro for a newbie. But then, I like to read up on any product before I use it. So I thought it was easy to install and now it is very easy to administrate. It has lower overhead from all of the bells and whistles that some of the other distros have included. There is no dependency hell that can be so frustrating to a newbie. If you stay away from the auto updaters and read the changelogs, you will never have a broken system. If you are like a lot of the Windows users that come over to Linux, however, you will probably be better served by one of the other distros. The majority of them want to run the installer CD and then just have everything be set up and work. Of course some of them become so frustrated the first time they run into a problem and have no idea on how to fix it, they run back to Windows. But good luck to you.
This isn't strictly a reply to this post, but an observation arising from several in this thread. I work for a Fortune 500 company. I am not allowed to post any information anywhere that would be related to the company or its policy. Period. End of Story. So for the Head of the Executive Branch to take the same position for any of his employees does not seem all that earth shattering. Congress or the Press can all expose these policies so that we can consider this when we evaluate what the agency says in their "findings". Actually that is why most members of the Public really don't know what to believe. You have government agencies issuing findings that support the government's policies. You have Universities and Research Centers reaching the findings that the people paying them were hoping for or findings that will bring in more donations and grants.
This is the type of innovation that usually comes when there is true competition in the market. Imagine how much better the OS market would be with similar competition.
I preferred NWN to BG or IW, but then it was my first game of this type. Like you mentioned, I think everyone is going to be in love (or at least have fond memories of) with their first. I haven't played NWN 2 yet. But I look forward to it.
My religion has never told me anything about the subject. So much for that theory. I think most people are aware that in most cases we are talking about fertility clinics. At least that is what is repeated in most news articles whenever the subject comes up. You seem to think that you know so much more than anyone else. I bet you are a real blast at parties.
That's one reason that I am a bit surprised if it is truly that closely tied to Mac OS. Apple has made wheel barrow loads of money on Windows Ipods. If they are to break into the hip and cool phone market, they will need as big a market base to draw from as they can acheive.
So only fundamentalist Christians are made a bit uncomfortable with some of these new concepts of cloning, use of aborted embryos for research. I would find that a bit surprising. Perhaps this just looks like a good opportunity to insult some group of people that you disagree with, while adding nothing to the debate. Big surprise there.
I guess I fail to understand this constant search for a possible challenger to Windows. There is a large segment of society that will never change from Windows no matter what the Linux distros come up with. Linux needs to be sold to the young for what it does best, stability, security, simplicity. It isn't going to be cause we can look close to Windows. And yes I am a Linux user.
I was getting ready to write a post on the dangers of fake pics and that I hoped there were safeguards in place to prevent this... but hey, I suddenly remembered that mainstream journalists have been doing this for awhile now, so no worries. Falsify away.
A couple things from this post. First, you need to hit the brakes a lot harder than merely slowing down. You want to lock them up to really get their attention. But of course be sure to have a gun under your seat as this may piss em off. Next point (and you still need a gun for this), you really should be on the off roads during deer season if you are going to be shining deer. You probably don't want to be taking shots if someone is behind you as it may be the game warden.

Whatever it is, I patented it first.

HAHAHAHA, thanks for that.

You young whippersnappers and your crazy ideas. Whatever happened to a good postcard.

SHHHH! He thinks the voices in his head are real people. Don't trigger a violent episode.

I would certainly feel friendlier toward them with an all expenses paid trip to Tahiti...

I didn't know there was that much goatse.

If they wanted to show some real bias, they would have called them dead babies.
