At least you don't argue with the wisdom of putting swap on a ramdisk.;-) <--- NOTICE THE WINK THIS TIME!!!! I also found that storing file buffers on disk improves reliability.

I thought Time Lords only had 7 lives (regenerations). Haven't there already been 7 actors playing the Doctor? Shouldn't the Doc be dead by now? Or, is it 7 *RE*generations, meaning that the new doc will be the last?
In order of preference, these are the things Microsoft would like to happen with this paper:
- Never existed
- No one knows it ever existed
- Paper is discredited and ignored by everyone
- Massive marketing and other pro-MS studies make customes disregard the academic paper
You forgot to mention the last option:
- Ensure that similar papers do not appear in the future
Water vapor is a green-house gas, but it is pretty simple to condense most it to water before it is emitted. The idea of burning hydrogen as automobile fuel has been pretty overtaken by using it in fuel cells. Besides, I believe fuel cells run cool and therefore produce liquid water.
This is why the three line chunks are over lapped. It eliminatetes phase errors.
Shred1 = md5hash(lines(1,2,3))
Shred2 = md5hash(lines(2,3,4))
Shred3 = md5hash(lines(3,4,5))
Of the three shreds that contain line 3, you would throw out the two out-of phase chunks.
7. Claim that the purpose of public education is to prepare students the working world rather than for Citizenship in a democracy.
8. Repeal the inheretance tax so that wealth and power accumilates only in families that already have them in surplus. (Bill Gates XII will also be the richest man in the world)
9. Privatize every important institution so that the deserving (the wealthy) can get the best services, the undeserving (the poor) will not be a burden on the deserving.

I'll bet pretty heavily that I will not be killed during the next few years. Of course, since I'm a nobody, I'll have to give some pretty long odds. As long as I live, I'll get some small return on my investment. If I'm killed by terrorists, I won't care about having to pay up, because I'll be dead.
This is an interesting idea, and it should stay that way. I'd be afraid that if I were to bet on a longshot terrorist strike and it paid off for me, that the FBI might come knocking on my door (with a battering ram).
You have been away from python for a while....
You don't pass this as an argument.
Python now uses the same regex engine as Perl.
As for whitespace, I use that in every laguage I program in;)
If you'd read the article, you'd know he suggests Python. His point was not that C/C++/Java are to hard for him, but that they are to hard for the hords of would-be contributers.
So, basically, it has to be compiled (duh). It's hard to learn (no, it's hard to use correctly) and it has no libraries... eh?
I'm sorry, but this guy is not a software developer. The usual comments about "X is the One True Language" notwithstanding, I can't follow that because he thinks it's "too hard" and he thinks it's "not viable" and decides that it simply isn't a good fit for his project, then LanguageX must be dead. Perhaps he'd like to share with us which language his OS is written in. Maybe it's Forth or Scheme. Use the right language/runtime/lib/technology for the job and refrain from saying "X sucks because I don't like it".
He is talking about an open source project to wich he wants to attract contributers.
He is saying that "hard" languages like C/C++/Java won't attract good contributions from a large number of contributers beacuse they take intellegence and effort to use well.
In all seriousness, this is going to be the first real fork of linux. They are releasing the code, but are unlikely to care if it gets folded back into the main code base. It'll also have lots of DRM "Features" that won't be released.
You, of course realize that he choose the most outrageous inflamatory emails to respond.
This technique is not new. He is "marketing" his own reasonableness and civility by contrasting him self with the most ludicrous of his attackers. The technique is so old and wornout that it detracts from his very valid points.
I haven't looked at Webmin in a few years, but this dosen't look like much more than a spcialized / dumbed down Webmin.
Sigh.

I find that running my ext3 journal on a RAM disk really speeds things up! Works for swap too!! ;-)

Actually... I vote for Bill Nye (The Science Guy).
The show could be educational as well as weird!

DHMO is one of the by products on coal and gasoline combustion! Thanks Gawd fuel cells will eliminate this polutant.
Right???
I don't have to porff read my post today. The "Spelling Nzais" cna't touch me!
So why can't the mouse generate it's own electricity? That ball is being rolled around all the time. I'm being at least 1/4th serious.

The bad guys from Scooby-Doo have been doing this for 30 years!!
That's how all those "ghosts" fly.

He never claimed to have invented it or anything else!
