This is slashdot... Lets have a reality check, Windows runs more than 90% of desktop PCs, and IE has a similar market share. The Xbox 360 is the only 'next gen' console on the market at the moment, and they license a massive amount of ip (wma etc) to other companies. Mircosoft isn't going anywhere.
If 1 in 9 harvests are currently poor - that number will triple to 1 in 3. Is that not obvious or are you just trying to nit-pick?
How a poor harvest is defined however - that is an interesting question.
Since its a BBC article it will be 10^9. The American culture of using Billion to mean 10^9 is in general use here now (because people are too lazy to safe thousand million) but it is wrong. A Billion is defined as 10^12 in the UK - but few people use it that way. On mainland Europe they tend to use the term billion correctly.
I was wondering about this. How many people are actually going to have a 'true' Christmas? How many buy presents and so on to celebrate the birth of Christ? Not many I'll bet - I don't and I can't think of any people I know well who will (which obviously isn't representative...).
I hear-by coin the phrase Commermas - as this is what Christmas has become. A lot of people buying a lot of presents for others in winter because its expected of them.
I REPAT NO HUMAN DEAD BECAUSE OF THIS.
Eh - what? Where are you getting your information? There most certainly are humans who are dead because they have contracted bird-flu. Not many, but then it hasn't made the all important leap from bird to humans - and be infectious. When it does, we're all in very big trouble because we simply cannot make enough vaccine. Yes, we can make vaccine for it - no we can't make enough to even cover a tenth of the population of the US.
The media (as always) are looking for a big story, and have now managed to panic a lot of people. Bird flu has been around for a long time, and a lot of research has being going into in - however not that birds with the flu are migrating the media has launched it into a huge story - always with the line 'But it doesn't pose a threat to humans yet' tagged onto the end. The perfect example of this is the posted/. article (again as always) sensationalising as much as possible.
Coz
Now how do they get the shuttle back to FL so it can be launched again ?
Not sure how they get it back - but this BBC news piece says it will cost $1million to get it back home:-/

Now watch that karma burn...
The funny thing about this is that this is pretty close to what Tim (Berners-Lee, that is) had in mind right from the beginning
Bang on! What we are seeing now is really Web 1.0 (beta) and we've been running 0.9 for a while now.
Beta because that tradition now, right?
Coz
(Yes, this is a joke. Laugh.)
If it was funny I might.
but I haven't seen an icy weather forecast for Hell today.
Yeah - its snowing here today.
Please do.
Thank goodness - perhaps now we can drop all this '2.0' crap.

And vi is the best
There have always been ghosts in the machine. Random segments of code, that have grouped together to form unexpected protocols....

The main danger of such explosions is the static and toxic moondust, which is thrown around.
Well I presume being hit by it wouldn't do you a whole hell of a lot of good either.

It's AJAX based
Gosh - it must be good.
Explain how so...
Score is currently tied - sadly
On second thought, if that is necessary for you to remember where you live, then maybe you shouldn't be entering the contest.

Argh - My brain tells me that was funny. But I need slashdot to tell me if it actually was. Please fix it soon.
The new Stargate SG1 and Atlantis series are also premiered tonight on SciFi.
When was the last time you saw a home linux machine?
Can we do this for spammers as well? Killing them all off would be most beneficial...
