  1. Re:And it's come full-circle on Is Microsoft Silent Before a Deadly Storm? · · Score: 0

This is slashdot... Lets have a reality check, Windows runs more than 90% of desktop PCs, and IE has a similar market share. The Xbox 360 is the only 'next gen' console on the market at the moment, and they license a massive amount of ip (wma etc) to other companies. Mircosoft isn't going anywhere.

    Now watch that karma burn...

Since its a BBC article it will be 10^9. The American culture of using Billion to mean 10^9 is in general use here now (because people are too lazy to safe thousand million) but it is wrong. A Billion is defined as 10^12 in the UK - but few people use it that way. On mainland Europe they tend to use the term billion correctly.

I was wondering about this. How many people are actually going to have a 'true' Christmas? How many buy presents and so on to celebrate the birth of Christ? Not many I'll bet - I don't and I can't think of any people I know well who will (which obviously isn't representative...).

I hear-by coin the phrase Commermas - as this is what Christmas has become. A lot of people buying a lot of presents for others in winter because its expected of them.

I REPAT NO HUMAN DEAD BECAUSE OF THIS. Eh - what? Where are you getting your information? There most certainly are humans who are dead because they have contracted bird-flu. Not many, but then it hasn't made the all important leap from bird to humans - and be infectious. When it does, we're all in very big trouble because we simply cannot make enough vaccine. Yes, we can make vaccine for it - no we can't make enough to even cover a tenth of the population of the US. The media (as always) are looking for a big story, and have now managed to panic a lot of people. Bird flu has been around for a long time, and a lot of research has being going into in - however not that birds with the flu are migrating the media has launched it into a huge story - always with the line 'But it doesn't pose a threat to humans yet' tagged onto the end. The perfect example of this is the posted /. article (again as always) sensationalising as much as possible. Coz
