Although the game worked fine the first time I launched it, it later refused to start after a crash. Deleting the config files (in the game folder, IIRC) helped, since the problem was somewhere with the hardware settings.
It's not like he was an immediate threat, and they might've learned something from the presentation. If they were in such a rush to arrest him, they should've done it long before the presentation.

I played Prey on my PC (P4 2.6 @ 2.8, a gig of ram, and a 6600 @ GT speeds). Very smooth at max details and 4xAS in 1024x. From a technical POV, everything's fine, except for savegames. Thankfully they let you save any time you want, but the files take up quite a bit of space (about 300 megs from autosaves only) so enable the NTFS compression if you need/want. The other problem occurred when I ran out of space and it crashed while writing a quicksave. I wasn't able to load it, of course, but after deleting it even the previous saves refused to work for some reason. Maybe it is/will be fixed in the latest patch. Anyway, I'm not gonna write a whole review now, but just go over a few key points.
Maybe calling it revolutionary is a little too much, so I won't, but the game featured a huge amount of refreshing ideas (portals, gravity tricks, immortality, and somewhat the weapons, and some minor stuff) but, as Zonk said, had its weaknesses in enemy variety and behavior. So, after finishing the game, I didn't immediately want to play again through the whole thing, but I did to take a few screenshots and found it hard to stop when I got to the place I wanted.
BTW, did anyone notice the aliens changing the jukebox to JP when you return to the bar? Now a less rhetorical question: under what conditions does the Blue öyster Cult appear on the jukebox? I didn't think it was special when I took the screenshot, but it wasn't there the second time I tried.
Incredible, one of the two major CPU companies buys one of the two major GPU companies, and slashdot is rejoiced because this will result in "better linux drivers"! Are you people nuts? The possible benefits of that are tiny compared to the havoc this deal might cause if AMD decides to play politics with its new toy.
Imagine if Intel bought NVIDIA and decided to axe the nForce chipsets. AMD would be fucked, being stuck with crappy via (or whatever) chipsets. Of course, Intel makes its own chipsets, so it's not exactly the same, but the potential of problems is there.
What's so unreasonable about rising the prices if the usage drops significantly? Since the demand for electricity is pretty inelastic, that's the most reasonable thing to do if they are to keep the revenue on certain level. And certain revenue is needed to cover the fixed costs: no matter how much people use, 10 KW or 100 KW, the power plant still needs to be ran and maintained, and so do the power lines.
Ah, yes. A post about censorship in India under an article about censorship in India. Clearly offtopic.
I don't usually complain about moderation, especially that of my own posts, but WTF? If you feel you must protect your county no matter what it does, why not reply and explain to me how culturally insensitive I am in thinking that censorship sucks.
If, however, the moderator was on crack or just wasted, please accept my apology and enjoy your experience.
Uh, looks like my English parser failed me again, from the first glance I assumed the headline said "Indiana Jones", until I realized the absurdity after reading the summary.
Why aren't they censoring Myspace though? It's a much more serious threat to any civilized society than Blogspot, porn, or terrorists.
To me, it seems reasonably appropriate for the G8 to look at it. It's actually a rather serious conflict of copyright laws we're seeing here. Currently it's ok for Allofmp3 to unlimitedly export the music, and since their costs are minimal, they can easily undercut any other service. Fine, this would force the competition to lower prices, but with AMP3's costs consist of a few servers and bandwidth, compared to the recording, publishing, promoting, etc. costs of music labels, the latter would find themselves with no income if AMP3 expands further.
BPI's motives are possibly simply "whaaa, they're taking our money!!1", but IMO there's a real issue here. What if Russia's copyright laws allowed GPL software to be unconditionally used as parts of commercial applications?
I don't think I've heard anyone use the term to refer to automatic cracking tools, although it wouldn't be completely unreasonable (rootkit == a kit to get root). Actually, it looks like someone edited the entry and simply inserted "; an automated cracking tool" to completely change the definition;)
Even the ultimate authority on computer terminology, the Urban Dictionary, gets it right:
A rootkit is a set of software tools frequently used by a third party (usually an intruder) after gaining access to a computer system. These tools are intended to conceal running processes, files or system data, which helps an intruder maintain access to a system without the user's knowledge. Rootkits are known to exist for a variety of operating systems such as Linux, Solaris and versions of Microsoft Windows.
The rootkit concept is the dominant controversial aspect of the 2005 Sony CD copy protection controversy, which has made the previously obscure concept of a rootkit much more widely known in the technology community, and to the general public
Because it's just a pair of connect-it-yourself speakers connected to a fucking ipod.
I would probably agree with you if it was an article like this one, and the whole thing wasn't called "iPod Hi-Fi mini", but as it is, it's just stupid.

What makes you think it's all true and he's (note the apostrophe) guilty?
> 'Nerd' is not a synonym for 'Linux user'.
No, but 'Linux user' is a subset of 'Nerd'.
Why not just attach the string to an electric motor? That way the legs/feet would be free to operate the rudder pedals.

> Why don't antivirus vendors focus on providing workarounds for the actual Windows security flaws instead?
Because viruses aren't using any security flaws.

Ehm. Trolls - check. Wizards - check. Elves - check. Sword wielding, fireball vomiting hero - check.

You can't? The taxes are about that high already!
>Use the other hand.
Good suggestion, that's what I do. When one of my hands gets tired, I switch to the other.
Of course, there's no way to form relationships outside schools. And there's only one place where kids can exercise, and that's the school gym!
Why don't we just lock children up in schools until they're 21, so they can have all the social interaction and exercise the need?
BBC submitted it with a better headline.
