I saw this at a party about three years ago. It was standing still by the entrance for ages, so I figured it was a robot or even just a model. Once it started moving around and interacting with people, I figured it was a guy in a huge suit.
Poor chap, he must have stood still and done nothing for about two hours before he got to even move around.
Crossfit is the bomb. As a precursor, you might also try the Starting Strength program, from the 2nd edition book of the same name by Mark Rippetoe. That did things to my body composition that I wouldn't have believed possible otherwise.
The effectiveness of corporal punishment really diminishes with use. My mother used it a lot when I was a young child, but time works against you when you're a small woman trying to discipline a growing boy. Somewhere around the age of 13 I stopped her hitting me - I never hit her back, just broke away from her or otherwise frustrated her. Once that lost its effectiveness, I guess she didn't have anything to fall back on.
I feel very sorry for her, thinking back - despite not getting into any serious trouble as a child, I can't have been easy to raise.
Then wouldn't it be more honest to give a salary range, and then let candidates know what point on the range you'll be recommending them for? If no candidate comes up that you'd be prepared to pay the low end of your range for, don't award the post!
I had an odd experience the first time I tried go-karting. I knew how to powerslide. The only actual driving I had done until this point was in a conventional car on conventional roads, where I turned the wheel in the direction I wanted the car to go.
When I got home from the track, I realise that the only time I'd ever done any sliding was while playing rally games. The virtual experience had translated itself to a real instinct quite painlessly, and I'd never been tempted to drive a normal car like that either.

I'll second your recommendation of Egan. 'Diaspora' was frnakly mind-boggling, and 'Quarantine' was based on a fantastic premise.
But what do you mean by saying that 'Use of Weapons' is not a good advert for Banks' skill? I think it's the best Culture novel, although very dark, and I believe he agrees. What's wrong or odd about UoW? What Culture novel has he written that's better?

Gordelpus!
Does this assume landing on a particular kind of surface? I imagine that landing on grass is a lot less nasty than landing on paving slabs?
Think of the many things they've done to impress:
There's Maoism, Taoism, I-ching and chess.
