Back on topic: i think the price is ridiculous and i can't see around me who would want to spend even the 300+$ for the core system. I mean the other systems now are around 100$, right ?
200$ is stretching it for a game console, anything over is way out of reach of kids (imagine having 2 kids each asking you 300$ gifts..)
And from what i read, you can change the memory module on the console ? I can't wait to have to upgrade my game consoles to play newer games... NOT!
Good strategy tho, sell 300$ console, sell 100$ hard drive, sell 100$ memory upgrade. A year later release another 100$ memory upgrade with twice the ram.
I think the neo-geo had a much more powerful sprite engine, 380 sprites of various size VS 80 sprites at most on the sega genesis. Many more colors on screen. A cpu that's around 14mhz instead of 8 and a sound chip that supporte 8 fm channels and 7 digital channels.
I've been told by an ex-SNK employee that you could build out an extra scrolling layer using just sprites on the neogeo. He said it was rather easy to code cause you only had to manage the position of one of the sprites and the rest would follow if they were configured for it.
Most likely true about the jaguar. I think Atari weren't exactly super well organized anyways about their dev tools... But this i'm not sure.
I know many people remember the commodore brand, but what kind of opinion people have on the brand ? An old computer brand that went bankrupt ? Is it worth that much money ?
I still love the old commodore computers but i doubt this is the general opinion about the brand.
I still don't fully understand why infogrames revived the Atari brand since everyone constantly said that Atari sucked when Nintendo came on the gaming scene...

I totaly agree. People wanting to clone their pets are most likely pretty selfish and all they want is to not be hurt. It's pretty selfish i think to spend 50k$ to re-create one pet when thousands of animals are suffering each day in shelters.
anyways i hate this cloning thing. If your pet is dead, face it. What is it with this whole must-save-everything movement... Doctors go to extreme lenghts to save a person from death even if this means the person will be a vegetable for the rest of his life.
i know losing a pet sucks, i'd cry a lot if one of my cats died but i don't think a clone would help me at all.
Oracle seems to have a lot more flexibility and power than SQL Server, but at the price of a very increased complexity. Maybe i'm wrong but that's the impression i have after working a fair bit with SQL Server and a little bit with Oracle.
Everything on Oracle seem way more complicated, i totally understand why you don't like Oracle (i don't like it either but i still think it has more power, but we don't need that power at work, m$ is fine for our applications)

Microsoft's Sql server doesn't seem to require that much attention here, maybe more than other products but it doesn't seem so bad. And the feature set is very good. MySQL has no triggers, this is something i can't live without. I don't think it has the same level of support for stored procedures and user defined functions and i don't know if it supports authentication thru something like LDAP.
m$ also provides neat tools like a db management tool with a gui and a query tool as well. The management gui seems to be pretty good for the times i've used it.
Microsoft's SQL Server isn't the best database on earth but i really think the SQL server product is quite decent. Please explain why you'd need much more DBAs for the ms product vs mysql ?

I just think that we are heading straight into the burn-out generation. I work hard every weekday, many people do. But i think the whole category of people obsessed by performance and money is going to be burning out sooner or later. They can have twice the money i got, the peace i have at home is priceless. I don't have a luxury appartment and can't afford a luxury car but having the possibility to spend time with friends is priceless. People can keep their cash and pseudo standing in business suits. I'm sticking with friends.
This said, i think video games are one great way to have fun! I play on my gba SP everyday after work when i do the 40 minute bus ride to home. Oh and i want a Nintendo DS. Playing Animal Crossing anywhere is bound to be one of the leetest thing ever:)
