The attitude that illuminata is exhibiting reminds me of the people that would bitch about RATM because they "sold out" by playing concerts and selling CD's. The point is that the GOOD stuff, with an intelligent--or at least thought provoking--message, should reach the largest audience.
The bitching was because they were signed to Epic Records, a big old Sony subsidiary. Hard to say bad things about big business when you're part of it, but that never stopped them. But facts sure do taste better with a bunch of glaze over them don't they? And, just for the record I thought that their message was filled with half-baked hippy bullshit and that their music was terrible. Thanks assholes, you helped give us rap metal.
We do not want a country that does not trade anything, and thereby does not advance at all. We want a country that does not waste money on consumer items, but still is willing to suport that wich makes life richer and more full.
Where did we come in to this? Who's we? Anyways, I have some awesome beads to trade with you, they up your spirits and make you feel whole again just by wearing them. Do you have any authentic hand-weaven rugs to offer? I'd like one with a lot of color in it, that way it'd give off some rad auras when my friends come over and we sit down to form the Circle of Peace.
Well, if a fat guy went on a tirade about how bad fat people are, that'd be funny because you know he couldn't possibly believe what he says. However, these guys have been making fun of consumerism since 1999. And, by the way that the developer talked about it, it almost seemed as if he didn't believe he was part of the consumerism culture. That's my problem.
Well, I'm not really angry with them over it, but I do wish that they'd treat consumerism with a bit more respect, seeing how that's what's bringing in the cash. Or, if they wanted to go the other route, they could cut off the ad budget and release the game at an extremely low cost and preach that gospel. But, I highly doubt that would happen for blatantly obvious reasons.
Anyways, talking poorly about the system that keeps their business afloat is fairly hypocritcal. That fact also puts a damper on the jokes. When you're trying to show your personal opinion in a joke, it helps to stay true to that opinion. Otherwise, the joke's message isn't delivered and is less funny as well; as if it should have been told by somebody else.
On characters and satire: "We've developed our characters a bit more and to that extent it's more serious. But it's still very much trying to be funny at all points. The satire... I suppose it's levelled at the broader weirdness of America and American consumerism and American action movies as well."
Oh no, consumerism didn't do an ounce of good for this game. Nor did this game try not to exploit consumerism with it's giant advertising campaigns.
I've noticed this since GTA3, but it still find it funny how they crack jokes at the very culture that makes their games sell in the millions.
I have this odd feeling that this new license isn't going to be do very well. I'm guessing that the French government will pull back any sort of offensive it takes in its enforcement.
I doubt that it will be effective seeing how there's a pretty damn good chance that they're going to waive a white flag once people ignore the terms of it.
Why I feel there's a good chance? Dunno, just a hunch I guess...
First, they'll ask Congress for some more cash to encourage people to read. Then, they're going to toss a bunch of that money towards authors and reading programs, kind of like they do for folk musicians.
In the meantime, people will continue to browse the internet instead of read a book while the NEA continues to deliberately ignore the fact that they're pushing unpopular art to an even more unpopular market.
Why is it such a bad thing for people to take accountability for what they buy instead of having the government constantly play watchdog for them? While they're at it, they could just mandate that toilets wipe a person's ass for them.
It really sucks for the businesses; now that the state government's getting deeper control of how a business operates, who knows what they'll think of next.
Take for instance a band called The Ataris, who cover a fucking Don Henley song and are passed off as cool. Don Henley, for shit's sake!
Listen, Atari's had some weird people tied to it (Howard Scott Warshaw), but we don't need some mall punk band with a vicarious link to Don Henley bopping around, acting all cool, selling records, using the Atari name! Hell, we don't need Infogrames using the Atari name, either, but they kinda bought them...
Fuck it, make like their was no agreement to let the band use the Atari name and sue the shit out of them. Try to make up for your wrongs, Infogrames version of Atari.
Write up a story that makes your software shine brighter than the sun, submit it to Slashdot, and reap the benefits!
Hey, the guy who wrote this software clone did it. What do you bet that if it clones something that Microsoft's done and runs on Linux, it'll always make the main page? I bet they have scripts that look for them and automatically slap them up!
Shit, what Microsoft product hasn't been cloned for Linux yet? I want to make some fast cash! Let me know so I can get coding...
How on earth are they going to verify that each address is a valid address? How about multiple computers at a single address (i.e. re-registrations when you forget your login, your kid registers after you have, etc.)?
I don't think that both sides are being shown here.
There's this one group that has a bunch of far-left open source freaks tossing money its way and has some 60s throwback wearing 80s close running it!
Oh yeah. You think these groups are bad, follow the money that goes into The GNU Foundation. Total agenda my friends, total agenda. I hear they even have the guy who runs Linux itself behind it. At least I've never heard of Bill Gates directly in cahoots with anybody.
Psst, rumor has it that GNU has a politician in their pockets. Yeah, big sympathetic. Goes by the name of Dennis Kusinich. Word has it that GNU might even help him steal the election...
The only way that we'll see a new era of Linux gaming is with direct support from all of the big boys. As long as Linux users have to jump through hoops to get their game running, as long as those games are less than 100% compatible, you won't see much changing.
People want their games to work, not to pay for something (or deal with cvs) to get their stuff to partially work. Most people with a computer good enough to play DX9 games have a Windows disc anyways and a hd big enough to keep both. Transgaming will never be anything more than a niche company servicing a very small niche.
Let's not put words in my mouth. I mean what I say here. Perhaps you're not really looking at the staunch pro-free market economists. Many believe that privatization and competition is indeed good in the eductation and research areas, and economics explains why that's a good thing. Most do believe that defense is best tax supported since protecting the nation is one of the few things that private industry can't do. And, I'd like to know exactly how working in industry research would make you inclined to know how industry as a whole operates.
Back to education. A good literacy rate doesn't say much considering the levels of education we're talking about. And, there is reason to believe that privatization would help it out since people could pick and choose what school is best (a competitive school market), as opposed to being forced to pay for their public school and still have to pay if they don't want their kids in it or being unable to afford a school they think would be better for their kids because they have to pay for their public school. There's also value conflicts that often exist with public schools.
Nah, I think that the internet would have been considered an interesting business proposition since many other computer standards were created in private industry. Once consumers demanded that they wanted to be able to communicate between different networks, the service providers would've had to cave.
I simply have a problem when tax dollars are used to fund this kind of research, especially considering that many times research does fail. I'm not quick to gamble with other people's money, nor am I quick to take it without them wanting to provide it.
Was the outcome good on some of those govenrment investments? Sure.
Do I think private industry and individuals could have and would have stepped up a bit more had the government not waved money at them? Sure.
Do I think that the outcome would have been very similar to the one we have now? Sure.
Do I like it when the government decides how to invest other peoples' money for them? No.
Do I like it when money is thrown at problems at a whim? No.
Were there a lot of failed investments? Sure. Public transit, social security, public education, welfare, most forms of recycling, etc etc etc.
Do I like it when people act like the government has a spotless record on investments, when in reality there were many failed ventures? No.
Do I like it when people act like tossing cash at a problem's way makes it go away? NO!
Do I like it when people act like the act of government cash tossing or cash tossing of any form is the only solution? ABSOLUTE NO!
Do I like it when people act like things wouldn't have happened without that aforementioned government cash tossing? DOUBLE ABSOLUTE NO!
Do I think that the cost of a solution can outweigh the benefit of a solution? LOTS OF TIMES!
Should you quit encouraging the government to whisk away what's hidden snugly in my wallet and bank account to research things that you think might be a problem, with an outcome likely to be what you wanted in the first place?! AAAAAAAAAH!
The attitude that illuminata is exhibiting reminds me of the people that would bitch about RATM because they "sold out" by playing concerts and selling CD's. The point is that the GOOD stuff, with an intelligent--or at least thought provoking--message, should reach the largest audience.

Kinda like Michael Moore...

Well, they might as well merge sites if they're going to share stories.
It's because your favorite musician is probably using this effect.
Especially if your favorite musician is this guy.

No wonder why it rains so much in WA.
If not, can we make it that way?
I could've sworn I saw an Atari t-shirt on one of the little bastards...
Take for instance a band called The Ataris, who cover a fucking Don Henley song and are passed off as cool. Don Henley, for shit's sake!

How can we stop Indiana's jobs being sent to third world countries like Texas?
They took their jobs!
How on earth are they going to verify that each address is a valid address? How about multiple computers at a single address (i.e. re-registrations when you forget your login, your kid registers after you have, etc.)?
That's easy. They're already watching you, man!
I misspelled clothes. God, never thought morning posting would be this tough.
But yeah, there's no such thing as 60s or80s close. And you can't wear it, either. Becaues it doesn't exist.
...I'm done.
I don't think that both sides are being shown here.

No, I think they mean that we'll be offering the cash prize for NASA to give out.
Wheat 2.0 has a virus?! Quick, eat Dietary Invigorating Corn Kernels 7! Completely man-made and open source! I hear the author's had some too!
Eat to live! Eat to live!

Please note: I've not been able to verify this one way or another.
Are the editors finally trying to verify things around here?
If that's the case, I commend them.
